Athletes at University of Pittsburgh Draw 600 with Gospel Outreach
|
|
Athletes behind a growing spiritual movement on the University of Pittsburgh campus say the "presence of God was tangible" during a recent first-of-its-kind evangelistic event last week. Nearly 600 people attended "Pitt for Jesus" at Mazeroski Field in Oakland, PA, last Thursday to worship, hear the Gospel, and have their lives transformed by the love of God, "Pitt Purpose" reported. By the end of the night, more than 65 people surrendered their lives to Jesus, 80 were baptized, and "countless others experienced freedom from addictions and strongholds right at the altar."
Pitt Purpose is led by student-athletes and holds weekly Bible studies and prayer meetings, aiming to transform Gen Z lives. "If God can touch a football team, then He could touch a campus. And if He could touch a campus, we think He could touch a city. If you could touch a city we believe that He could touch a state...if He could touch a state, He could touch a country," Pitt Purpose founder, Jake Overman, recently told CBN News. Overman, a red-shirt senior tight end, says the movement began with a God-given vision, expanding over several months to impact hundreds. He attributes the movement's momentum to students' openness, saying, "The harvest here...is good soil," and he believes hearts have been prepared for this season. Trump Courts Arab Leaders for a New Middle East Order After Gaza
|
|
The war in Gaza may be drawing to its bitter end, but what comes next could shape the Middle East for decades. President Donald Trump is positioning himself at the center of the effort to chart a post-war order, a move that has set off both intrigue and concern as to where this might be heading.
In recent days, Trump has convened or prepared to meet with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan. The message is clear: the United States wants Arab and Muslim nations not only at the table, but on the ground in Gaza.
What Trump is proposing is a plan that, at least in broad strokes, seeks to secure the release of hostages, provide a roadmap for Israeli withdrawal, and establish a form of governance in Gaza that leaves Hamas on the sidelines. But the most striking--and controversial--element is the idea of a multinational peacekeeping force drawn largely from Muslim and Arab states. Indonesia has already signaled its willingness to send tens of thousands of troops. Others, including Egypt and Jordan, are being courted for similar commitments.
For many observers, this is nothing short of remarkable. The idea of Muslim troops entering Gaza to replace the Israeli Defense Forces could be seen as a step toward regional ownership of a Palestinian future. It would also relieve the United States from having to commit its own soldiers--an option that would be deeply unpopular at home. Instead, Washington would likely play a background role, offering logistical, financial, and intelligence support, while leaving the visible presence to regional partners. Former GOP Reminds Biden Official that Previous Administration Targeted Free Speech Through Social Media Censorship
|
|
Former Republican Michigan Rep. Peter Meijer reminded former Biden special assistant Dan Koh on Tuesday that the Biden administration had previously targeted free speech through social media censorship.
Tuesday it would allow video creators banned for violating political speech guidelines an opportunity to return to the platform. While discussing the recent lifting of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension on CNN’s “The Arena,” Koh said Republicans were attempting to limit Kimmel’s speech.
“Let me ask you a question. If Joe Biden took down a prominent right-wing personality on TV for what he or she said, would you endorse that? I’m talking about a similar allegory of someone on TV right now,” Koh said. “Will you answer my question?”
“You’re hypothetical if the Biden administration went and jawboned, let’s say, social media platforms and de-platforming hundreds of conservatives?” Meijer asked. “No, that is literally what the administration that you serve did. Google just released all of the components.”
During the Biden administration, some content creators began speaking out against the COVID-19 vaccine and related mandates. YouTube quickly imposed policies restricting discussions about COVID-19, including treatments.

Hegseth orders hundreds of military commanders to Virginia for unprecedented meeting

Highly unusual gathering comes as War Secretary Hegseth wants to cut 20% of senior officers
|

The Pentagon next week is convening a meeting of top U.S. military leaders from across the globe. Multiple War Department officials confirmed to Fox News that top military commanders had been asked to fly to Virginia for a meeting next week, though the topic of the discussion is unclear.
The Pentagon confirmed the meeting but did not offer details.
"The Secretary of War will be addressing his senior military leaders early next week," chief spokesperson Sean Parnell said in a statement.
A meeting of this size and scope is highly unusual and would usually take place on a secure video teleconference — around 800 generals and admirals are spread across the U.S. and world. The lack of details surrounding the gathering has some fearing a looming purge. War Secretary Pete Hegseth has previously said he wants to cut 20% of senior generals and admirals.
The order, first reported by The Washington Post, applies to senior officers with the rank of brigadier general or above or their Navy equivalent and their top enlisted advisers. In May, Hegseth issued a directive to slash about 100 generals and admirals, along with a "minimum" 20% cut to four-star officers. 1. In largest strikes yet, IAF jets bomb Houthi military sites in Yemen after drone attack - Times of Israel
The Israeli Air Force carried out strikes on Thursday against Houthi military sites in Yemen’s capital Sanaa, in response to the Iran-backed group’s repeated attacks on Israel, including a drone attack on Eilat a day prior.
The Israel Defense Forces said it struck seven targets belonging to the Houthis’ “security and intelligence apparatus” and army, including a top military headquarters. Defense Minister Israel Katz said the “powerful” strikes killed “many dozens of Houthi terror operatives, and destroyed stockpiles of UAVs and weaponry.”
Hours later, the Houthis fired a ballistic missile that set off sirens across central Israel, sending hundreds of thousands of people to bomb shelters. (Read more)

2. Anti-Israel group reports ‘imminent security threat’ to its chairman from Israel-linked sources - Times of Israel
The Hind Rajab Foundation — known for using social media posts by Israeli soldiers, officers and reservists in an attempt to have them arrested for alleged war crimes when they travel abroad — reports a “serious and imminent security threat” against its chairman.
“Individuals linked to Israeli security networks active in Antwerp, and with possible connections to extremist organizations such as the Jewish Defense League, are involved” in the threat against Dyab Abou Jahjah and his family, the foundation claims.
“In light of these developments, the Belgian police and other security services have initiated measures, and the protective arrangements already in place for Mr. Abou Jahjah have been significantly tightened,” it adds in its statement, noting that it is collaborating with local authorities. 3. Microsoft restricts access to IDF cyber unit following media accusation of espionage - World Israel News
Microsoft has partially suspended services to Israel’s Unit 8200, the IDF’s premier signals intelligence branch following claims by activist-linked media outlets that the unit used the company’s Azure platform to store data on Palestinian communications.
The Guardian, together with +972 Magazine and Local Call, published a report last month alleging that Unit 8200 built a program capable of recording and analyzing millions of calls daily in Gaza and Judea and Samaria.
Microsoft responded by conducting an external review of its cooperation with the unit.
Sources told The Guardian that the decision followed a 2021 meeting between Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella and Unit 8200 Commander Yossi Sariel.
Leveraging Azure’s storage capacity and computing power, the unit reportedly developed a system designed to intercept calls. (Read more)

4. Manhunt in Israel after Arabic-speaking man attempts to abduct girl, force her into his car trunk - Jerusalem Post
The Sharon Region Police are conducting a manhunt for an Arabic-speaking suspect accused of attempting to kidnap a girl in Hod Hasharon and force her into the trunk of his car, Israeli media reported on Wednesday night.
Witnesses reportedly chased off the suspect, preventing the abduction in the city’s main Sokolov Street. He had reportedly attempted to take several young women.
The suspect is also alleged to have attacked several civilians in the North.
The suspect was described by the mayor as driving a white Tesla, and police have already identified the man as a resident of the North, according to N12. (Read more)

5. Israeli arrested for planning to buy gun, kill Netanyahu - JNS
Israeli police arrested a resident of the southern city of Kiryat Gat who threatened to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The suspect was arrested on the evening of Sept. 22, the start of the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah, when he entered a police station and announced that he intended to purchase a gun and shoot Netanyahu three times.
The officers immediately arrested the suspect, who was interrogated at the station. A court subsequently extended his detention at the police’s request.
“Today, an indictment is expected to be filed against him, along with a request for detention until the conclusion of the proceedings,” police said in a statement on Thursday.

1. Texas transgender restroom bill with hefty fines signed into law by Abbott - San.com
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed legislation into law on Monday that will require transgender individuals to use bathrooms in certain public areas according to their sex assigned at birth or face substantial financial penalties. The bill first passed the Texas House by an 86-45 vote on Aug. 28.
When does the law go into effect?
The law applies to restrooms, locker rooms, shower facilities and changing rooms in government buildings, including public schools and colleges. It also directs the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to house inmates in correctional facilities cellblocks and dormitories according to an inmate’s sex assigned at birth.
Penalties for violations
Penalties for a violation of the law are $25,000 for first-time offenses and $125,000 for repeat offenders. Before an amendment to the bill, the fines were $5,000 for a first offense and $25,000 for subsequent violations.
How authorities will enforce the ban is reportedly unclear.
Under the law, there are exceptions for custodial and maintenance duties, those assisting individuals with disabilities and children under the age of 10 who enter the facility with a caretaker.

"The national security interests of the United States require that the United States utilize these foreign assistance funds to meet new challenges in ways that make America safer, stronger, or more prosperous," according to the Congressional Notification reviewed by Reuters on Wednesday. 3. Iran Rapidly Rebuilding Missile-Production Sites Struck By Israel - ZeroHedge
Iran has begun reconstructing missile-production facilities damaged during its 12-day war with Israel in June, though analysts caution that the planetary mixers – key components for the production of solid fuel – remain absent, AP reported Wednesday.
New satellite imagery reviewed by AP shows work underway at both Parchin and Shahroud. Sam Lair, a research associate at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, said mixing halls at Parchin appear to be under repair, with parallel efforts at Shahroud. "If they’re able to reacquire some key things like planetary mixers, then that infrastructure is still there and ready to get rolling again," he noted.
Planetary mixers, designed with blades revolving around a central hub like orbiting planets, are essential for evenly blending propellant. Experts believe Israeli strikes in June deliberately hit the buildings housing the mixers, along with facilities that could manufacture them, in an effort to cripple Iran’s missile production.
Tehran has offered no public comment on its reconstruction drive. Iran’s mission to the UN declined to answer questions, while Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh stated, "We are now focused on producing military equipment with higher precision and greater operational capabilities." (Read more)

5. Comey indicted for alleged false statement, obstruction of congressional proceeding - Fox News
Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted by a grand jury on two counts, alleged false statements within jurisdiction of the legislative branch and obstruction of a congressional proceeding, Fox News Digital has learned.
Fox News Digital exclusively reported in July that Comey was under criminal investigation by the FBI. The probe into Comey centered on whether he lied to Congress during his Sept. 30, 2020, testimony about his handling of the original Trump–Russia probe at the FBI, known inside the bureau as "Crossfire Hurricane."
"No one is above the law," said Attorney General Pam Bondi on X. "Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case."

6. AI safety tool flags student activity, spurs debate on privacy and accuracy – Straight Arrow News
More than 1,500 school districts nationwide are using a digital tool called Gaggle, which uses artificial intelligence to monitor students’ school devices for signs of unsafe behavior. Complaints that the technology, designed to provide around-the-clock safety management for K-12 students, has been inaccurate are raising questions about its potential impact on student privacy.
The platform tracks online activity for roughly 6 million students across the country, making it one of the most widely used AI-based monitoring tools in K–12 education.
Concerns in Lawrence, Kansas
In Lawrence, Kansas, some high school students say Gaggle has flagged and even deleted content that wasn’t harmful. The Washington Post reported an art student’s portfolio was partially removed after being flagged.
Lawrence Public Schools introduced Gaggle in 2023, saying the system is meant to identify students at risk, provide support and help maintain a safer school environment. The district said the tool scans for signs of self-harm, depression, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, cyberbullying and credible threats of violence.
Current and former students sued the district in August, claiming Gaggle’s monitoring is unconstitutional. They say it can discourage students from discussing mental health or using school devices freely.
Records obtained by a student in Lawrence showed Gaggle flagged more than 1,200 instances of content over a year, including material related to violence, drugs, sex or mental health.
What do researchers say about AI and student safety?
A 2023 RAND Corporation study examined the use of artificial intelligence programs in K–12 schools to identify students at risk for suicide and self-harm. Researchers found that AI monitoring can help school staff and parents detect potential mental health concerns, but there is limited data on whether these tools actually improve student outcomes.
The study also noted potential downsides. AI-based monitoring may compromise student privacy and could reinforce existing inequalities. Many schools lack the resources to respond effectively to mental health alerts, and parents, students and even health care providers may not fully understand how the systems work. We know that there is a fine line between privacy, safety and concern for our students at this time. Only you, Father, can decipher what can cause harm and what cannot. If this is the way to protect our students from exploitation then we thank you for it.
While Gaggle says protecting student privacy is a top priority and it follows all federal and state rules, it makes us as parents uncomfortable that this agency has in some ways control over our students. We ask, Father, that you would give full control of monitoring our students back to their parents!. There is a deep concern that these organizations are monitoring our youth because of what we have seen happen in our public school systems in the past. We ask you, Lord, to put righteous individuals in place to lead the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act so that our students will be protected. Father, take down any plans of the enemy that could harm our youth and cause them to stumble. Let them seek refuge in You! In Jesus' name. Amen.

The battle lines inside America’s health bureaucracy are drawn. Over 1,000 CDC and HHS workers signed a letter demanding the ouster of Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after he fired CDC Director Susan Monarez and began rolling back vaccine policies. To them, Kennedy represents disruption. To many Americans, he represents reform. The letter is less about science than it is about entrenched bureaucrats protecting their power. Those in public health policy are fighting to keep a system that rewards compliance and punishes dissent. This is the deep state flexing its muscle, using insider outrage as a weapon against someone threatening the order that has enriched and empowered them for decades.

Tropical Storm Humberto forms, to become major hurricane off southeast US coast
|

A new tropical storm has taken shape over the Atlantic Ocean and is predicted to become the next hurricane of the season. It could be quickly followed by yet another storm that may threaten the southeastern United States.
Tropical Storm Humberto formed on Wednesday afternoon, one day after AccuWeather called the area of strengthening showers and thunderstorms a tropical rainstorm to raise awareness of the growing tropical threat. Meanwhile, a tropical wave crossing the northern Caribbean is also showing signs of development, raising concerns for the Bahamas and potentially the U.S. East Coast.
The latest on Tropical Storm Humberto
As of Thursday morning, Tropical Storm Humberto was located about 480 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. It had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and was traveling northwest at 10 mph.
Humberto is forecast to take a curved path between Bermuda and the East Coast of the U.S.
