LGBT group that fought to strip Christian colleges of Title IX exemptions closes down
|
|
|
An LGBT advocacy group that filed an unsuccessful legal challenge to end religious exemptions to federal Title IX discrimination law for Christian colleges that receive federal funding is closing down.
The board of directors for the Religious Exemption Accountability Project emailed an update to supporters on Sunday to announce that they are closing the organization's operations, citing "a serious internal issue" that affected its "financial and operational stability."
"While we cannot share all details publicly, we are deeply grateful to the founders, students, alumni, volunteers, donors, and community who believed in this work from day one," stated REAP.
"Founded as a legal and storytelling campaign by queer students and alumni, REAP grew into a national nonprofit advocating for LGBTQIA+ students at religious colleges and universities."
The group will "remain incorporated solely to conclude operations, fulfill legal obligations, and preserve our archive." (Christian Post) Read more here.

Texas Dems begin to crack, confirm return to state after fleeing to obstruct GOP redistricting: report
|

|
Texas House Democrats have reportedly confirmed they intend to return to their state after fleeing in an attempt to halt legislative proceedings, which included GOP attempts to redraw congressional districts in the state.
Multiple sources confirmed to ABC 13 Houston on Tuesday that the absent House Democrats will return to the Lone Star State after feeling like they accomplished their mission of killing the special legislative session called by Republicans to pass redistricting legislation. The special session expires next Tuesday.
The outlet reported the exact time of the Democrats' return to the capital in Austin is not clear.
News of the lawmakers' imminent return to the state comes on the same day that Texas Senate Republicans were able to get the new congressional maps approved. They must now be passed in the House before Republican Gov. Greg Abbott can sign them into law.
Earlier this week, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Republican House Speaker Dustin Burrows indicated they would adjourn the special legislative session this Friday if Democrats had not returned by then. (Fox News) Read more then.

Homeless people in DC have 2 choices as Trump admin cracks down
|

|
The White House says those living in homeless encampments in the nation's capital will have two choices in the coming days: accept treatment at a homeless shelter, or go to jail.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the ultimatum during a Tuesday press conference as reporters prodded about President Donald Trump's federal takeover of Washington, D.C.'s law enforcement. She said many of the homeless encampments across the city have already been dismantled, and those that remain she expected to be dealt with this week.
Asked about what options are available to those in homeless encampments, Leavitt was blunt: "homeless shelters, for addiction and mental health services, or jail if they refuse, are the options on the table right now."
Trump himself had floated the idea of relocating homeless encampments to locations well outside the city. Leavitt confirmed the administration is "exploring" the option, but said it is not yet on the table.
A tour by Fox News Digital found that many former hotspots for the homeless have been cleared, with only abandoned clothing and scattered food containers left behind as signs of recent life as of this week.
In other parts of the city — including the heart of downtown — the homeless population continued to stake out places to sleep and gather in parks or on busy street corners. (Fox News) Read more here.

Supreme Court Announces Fall Hearings for Election, Conversion Therapy Cases
|
|
The Supreme Court on Aug. 12 scheduled oral arguments for the fall in major cases, including a redistricting case that could affect the balance of power in Congress.
One newly scheduled case is a challenge to a Colorado law that bans counseling for minors that the state says aims to turn patients away from same-sex attraction. Another case looks at whether a federal military contractor may be sued after a U.S. soldier was injured in a terrorist attack.
The two new scheduling orders cover hearings set for October and November.

Trump Threatens Allowing ‘Major Lawsuit’ Against Fed Chair Powell Over Central Bank Renovation
|

President Donald Trump has escalated his criticism of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, threatening to allow a “major lawsuit” against him over the central bank’s multibillion-dollar headquarters renovation—and again pressing for an immediate interest-rate cut.
In an Aug. 12 post on Truth Social, Trump renewed his name-calling of the Fed chief as Jerome “Too Late” Powell, and said he “must NOW lower the rate,” accusing Powell and the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) of doing “incalculable” damage to the economy by not lowering interest rates.
Trump and his top economic advisers have repeatedly pushed the Fed to reduce its benchmark federal funds rate from its current range of 4.25–4.50 percent. The president has argued for rates of 0.25–1.75 percent, similar to those in countries such as Japan and Switzerland, to spur growth and reduce federal borrowing costs.
In his Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump said the economy was doing well despite Powell’s and the FOMC’s reluctance to cut rates, before mentioning a potential lawsuit against the Fed chief.
“I am, though, considering allowing a major lawsuit against Powell to proceed because of the horrible, and grossly incompetent, job he has done in managing the construction of the Fed buildings,” Trump wrote. “Three Billion Dollars for a job that should have been a $50 Million Dollar fix up. We ask You to provide guidance in overseeing all costs going forward, shine Your light on anything that is out of normal cost structures, give renewed vision on ways to move forward in cost effective ways. 1. ‘A two-state solution means our end,’ says Israel’s FM - JNS
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar told a visiting delegation of American journalists on Wednesday that the establishment of a Palestinian state would pose an existential threat to Israel.
The delegation, led by Newsmax founder and CEO Christopher Ruddy, is visiting Israel as part of the Foreign Ministry’s public diplomacy initiative.
“A two-state solution? A Palestinian state in the heart of Israel would indeed be a solution—for those who seek to eliminate us. We will not let this happen,” Sa’ar said during a briefing in Jerusalem.
He argued that creating a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with its capital in eastern Jerusalem, would endanger Israel’s major population centers and leave the country with “indefensible” boundaries. (Read more)

2. Zamir approves plans for IDF’s Gaza City operation - JNS
Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir on Wednesday approved the military’s “main framework” for seizing control of Gaza City, “in accordance with the directive of the political echelon.”
During a meeting with the IDF’s General Staff Forum, Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) representatives and other members of the Jewish state’s security establishment, Zamir gave his blessing to “the central concept for the plan for the next stages” in the war, the army stated.
The plan to reclaim control of Gaza City from Hamas, which the Security Cabinetapproved early Friday with a “decisive majority,” highlights the need to increase “troop readiness and preparedness for reserve recruitment,” Zamir told the meeting, “while conducting proficiency training and providing breathing space ahead of the upcoming missions.”
During the discussion, Zamir and other top commanders presented the military’s ongoing actions against Hamas’s remaining strongholds, “including the strike in the Zeitoun area that began yesterday.” (Read more)

3. Reconciliation attempt: Katz, IDF Chief to meet amid growing tensions

Over the past day, efforts have been made to schedule a meeting between Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir to settle the dispute between the two, Kan News reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, the meeting may occur as early as Wednesday evening but no later than Thursday after the weekly situational assessment attended by the two at the Kirya Base in Tel Aviv.
The dispute between the two worsened this week, surrounding the issue of high-ranking appointments in the military. Even beforehand, there was tension between Zamir and the political echelon amid its decision to take over Gaza City against the IDF's recommendation due to its concern for the lives of the hostages. 4. Smotrich says new E1 settlement plan will 'bury idea of a Palestinian state' - report - Jerusalem Post
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced that he approved the new E1 settlement plan, Israeli media reported on Wednesday night.
“The plan will bury the idea of a Palestinian state,” he was quoted as saying.
Smotrich revealed that he would hold a press conference on Thursday, accompanied by Yesha Council Chairman Israel Ganz and Ma'aleh Adumim Mayor Guy Yifrach, to further present the plan, Ynet reported.
The plan calls for the construction of 3,401 new housing units in Ma'aleh Adumim, located in the West Bank. (Read more)

5. Argentina’s Milei Launches $1 Million Isaac Accords Initiative to Strengthen Israel–Latin America Ties - Algemeiner
Argentine President Javier Milei has helped to launch a $1 million initiative, the American Friends of the Isaac Accords (AFOIA), aimed at deepening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between Israel and Latin American countries.
On Tuesday, the Genesis Prize Foundation introduced the Isaac Accords, a new project aimed at fostering closer cooperation between Latin American governments and Israel while tackling antisemitism and terrorism.
Milei’s effort is modeled after the Abraham Accords — a series of historic US-brokered normalization agreements between Israel and several Arab countries.

1. Supreme Court formally asked to overturn landmark same-sex marriage ruling - ABC News
Ten years after the Supreme Court extended marriage rights to same-sex couples nationwide, the justices this fall will consider for the first time whether to take up a case that explicitly asks them to overturn that decision.
Kim Davis, the former Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for six days in 2015 after refusing to issue marriage licenses to a gay couple on religious grounds, is appealing a $100,000 jury verdict for emotional damages plus $260,000 for attorneys fees.
In a petition for writ of certiorari filed last month, Davis argues First Amendment protection for free exercise of religion immunizes her from personal liability for the denial of marriage licenses.
More fundamentally, she claims the high court's decision in Obergefell v Hodges -- extending marriage rights for same-sex couples under the 14th Amendment's due process protections -- was "egregiously wrong." (Read more) |

2. Oregon Mother Wins Right to Adopt Without Compromising Faith - Million Voices
In a major win for religious freedom, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit recently ruled that an Oregon mother, Jessica Bates, may begin the process of adopting children from the foster care system—without being forced to abandon her religious beliefs about gender and sexuality.
Jessica Bates, a mother of five, applied two years ago to become a foster parent.
The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) denied her application because she said she would not take children to pride parades or refer to a child by their preferred pronouns. Bates made it clear that she would welcome and love any child in her care, but she could not promote ideas that go against her Christian beliefs. Even so, ODHS blocked her from adopting—even children who may share her faith.
The 9th Circuit Court disagreed with Oregon’s decision. In their ruling, they wrote:
“No one thinks, for example, that a state could exclude parents from adopting foster children based on those parents’ political views, race, or religious affiliations. Adoption is not a constitutional law dead zone.” (Read more) |

3. Virginia High School Accused of Arranging Abortions Without Parental Consent - Million Voices
Troubling news is coming out of Fairfax County, Virginia, where a report brought to the attention of ABC 7 News claims that two female students, both minors, say school staff arranged and financed abortions without notifying their parents. If true, this would be a direct violation of Virginia’s parental-notification law.
In a statement from one of the students, whose name was redacted for privacy, she wrote, “I study at Centreville High School and I am currently in 11th grade ESOL. Last year I went to see social worker Carolina Diaz. She helped me with the termination of my pregnancy—that is, an abortion. Mrs. Carolina Diaz scheduled the appointment for me at the abortion clinic in Fairfax, paid the costs of that medical procedure, and kept everything quiet without informing my family. I feared my family would react very badly if they found out about my pregnancy and the abortion.”
The student concluded her letter, stating, “When the abortion was performed, I was only 17 years old. My date of birth is [redacted] 2004, and the abortion was carried out in November of 2021.” (Read more) |

I pray for those who broke the law and encouraged such immoral actions to be brought to justice. Empower us to take a stand and rise up against the things that are not aligned with your word. 4. Trump Pushes for Census to Exclude Illegal Immigrants - Million Voices
Amid national debates over redistricting continue, former President Donald Trump recently stated that the next U.S. census should not include individuals who are in the country illegally. Trump called this plan a move toward a “highly accurate” count.
“I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024. People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS.”
The U.S. Constitution requires a census every ten years, under Article I, Section 2:
“The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.” Trump’s statement comes as the country faces ongoing challenges related to immigration. Lord God, we also thank You for leaders that are willing to implement rules of justice and righteousness that serve the whole population. 5. First lady Melania Trump puts Hunter Biden on $1B notice over 'false, defamatory' Epstein comments - Fox News
First lady Melania Trump is putting Hunter Biden on $1 billion notice over what she claims are "false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements" made about her, demanding he immediately remove and retract the content and issue an apology or face legal action, Fox News Digital has learned.
Fox News Digital exclusively obtained the letter that Alejandro Brito, attorney serving as litigation counsel for the first lady, sent to Hunter Biden and his attorney, Abbe Lowell, Aug. 6. Brito demanded that Biden "immediately retract the false, defamatory, disparaging and inflammatory statements made about Mrs. Trump," which were contained in a video interview with Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan and posted to Youtube in early August.
In the video interview, titled "Hunter Biden Returns" video earlier in August, the former first son claimed "Epstein introduced Melania to Trump. The connections are, like, so wide and deep." "These false, disparaging, defamatory, and inflammatory statements are extremely salacious and have been widely disseminated throughout various digital mediums," Brito wrote. "Indeed, the video has since been re-published by various media outlets, journalists, and political commentators with millions of social media followers that have disseminated the false and defamatory statements therein to tens of millions of people worldwide." 6. How Hamas turned kids into terrorists with TV show featuring jihadi mouse, bloodthirsty bunny - New York Post
American kids may have grown up with Mr. Rogers telling them, “You are special just the way you are,” but for a child in Gaza there was Farfour—a plushy, genocidal TV mouse screaming “Kill! Kill! Kill!” Farfour, a costumed Mickey Mouse knockoff, was co-host of a kid’s program called “Tomorrow’s Pioneers” which aired on Hamas-affiliated television station Al-Aqsa TV from April 2007 to October 2009.
For anyone wondering how the ideologically-crazed fanatical fighters of Hamas came to be, the show offers some answers. Billed as educational programming to teach Islamic values to schoolchildren — much like a “Sesame Street” or “Barney & Friends” for the Middle East — “Tomorrow’s Pioneers” was a colorful, sing-song blood orgy celebrating Jew hatred and martyrdom.

Why Americans Must Abandon the Democratic Party

A recent exposé by Beritbart’s Alex Marlow documents how the Biden White House orchestrated a coordinated lawfare campaign against Donald Trump by pushing four criminal and two civil legal cases, with the goal of jailing or bankrupting him to block his candidacy. Simultaneously, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Attorney General Pam Bondi have launched a grand jury probe and “strike force” to investigate what they call a treasonous conspiracy by Barak Obama and deep state intel officials to manufacture the Russia collusion narrative. This two‑pronged strategy reveals Democrats weaponizing legal institutions and the deep state to undermine the Republic’s most sacred right—your vote.
While Democrats loudly accused Trump of being “a threat to democracy,” the revelations suggest it was they who posed the real threat. Gabbard asserts that Obama directly suppressed internal intel showing that Russia didn’t tamper with election infrastructure, pressuring analysts to affirm a false narrative in collusion assessments. Bondi’s DOJ is investigating based on Gabbard’s disclosures. The irony is sharp: Democrats painted Trump as a fascist dictator, yet their own leadership allegedly broke norms to pressure intelligence agencies and coordinate prosecutions. The mask has slipped. Chinese Authorities Mandating Blood Tests, Releasing Lab Mosquitoes to Fight Chikungunya Outbreak

As the chikungunya outbreak continues to spread in China, the prevention and control measures imposed by the Chinese communist regime have been causing increasing concerns among medical professionals and the Chinese public.
Guangdong Province reported 1,387 new chikungunya cases in the past week (Aug. 3 to Aug. 9), according to a notice by the provincial Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There have been no deaths from the virus reported so far, according to the Chinese agency.
According to state media, as of July 29, the cumulative number of chikungunya cases in Foshan, Guangdong—where the first cases of the outbreak were reported on July 8—had exceeded 6,000.
Because of the Chinese communist regime’s record of censoring data it considers to be politically sensitive—as was seen with its cover-up of COVID-19 infections and related deaths in late 2019—the true number of known chikungunya fever infections could be higher.
Chikungunya fever is a viral disease mainly transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. Its symptoms are similar to those of dengue fever. Patients usually experience fever, severe joint pain, muscle pain, headache, fatigue, and rash.
There is no specific antiviral treatment for chikungunya. Deaths from the disease are rare but do occur, especially among vulnerable populations such as those with underlying health conditions. (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

US, China Clash at UN Meeting Over Panama Canal

Chinese and U.S. representatives clashed on Monday at a U.N. Security Council meeting over the Panama Canal amid an ongoing battle over control of the waterway that connects the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans.
Acting U.S. Ambassador Dorothy Shea raised concerns about Beijing’s “outsized influence” in the area, while Chinese Ambassador Fu Cong denied that Chinese influence on the ports has affected the neutrality of the canal.
The clash took place at a U.N. Security Council meeting on maritime security, where the chair of the meeting, Panama’s President José Raúl Mulino, stressed the neutrality of the canal and his country’s ownership of the waterway.
Fu said that Panama has “consistently and effectively managed the canal,” and that Beijing has “always respected the permanent neutrality of the canal.”
Shea said the Chinese regime has an “outsized influence over the Panama Canal area, especially over critical infrastructure and port operations,” and that the influence “is not just a risk to Panama and the United States, but rather a potential threat to global trade and security.”
In response, Mulino said he wanted to stress Panama’s sovereignty “in terms of the ownership of the canal” and the multilateral treaty governing its administration. He called the canal’s neutrality “the only and the best defense” to any specific or global threats.
The control of the waterway has been a focus of U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested the United States should take it back because of growing Chinese influence over the canal and alleged overcharging of U.S. ships for using the waterway.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also sounded the alarm over control of port facilities at both ends of the canal by a Chinese company, saying the regime could use the canal “as a choke point to impede commerce in a moment of conflict” during his confirmation hearing in January. Trump to Hold Virtual Meeting With Zelenskyy Ahead of Summit With Putin

President Donald Trump will hold a virtual meeting on Wednesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders, a White House official has confirmed to The Epoch Times. Vice President JD Vance will also join the meeting with Zelenskyy.
The virtual meeting will come two days before Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday that the Trump–Putin meeting in Alaska will be “one-on-one” and Zelenskyy will not attend.
When asked why Zelenskyy was not invited to the summit, Leavitt said that the meeting was arranged at Putin’s request, and Trump agreed, hoping “to walk away with a better understanding of how we can end this war.”
She described the summit as “a listening exercise” for Trump.
“Look, only one party that’s involved in this war is going to be present, and so this is for the president to go and to get, again, a more firm and better understanding of how we can hopefully bring this war to an end,” she said. (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

A rare "space hurricane" that swirled over Earth's North Pole in 2014 caused intense space weather effects despite unusually quiet solar conditions, a new study reports.
The phenomenon, called a "space hurricane," unleashed intense space weather effects normally seen only during major solar storms, despite the sun being unusually quiet that day, according to a new study.
The report offers the first detailed analysis of the nearly eight-hour tempest, which was first known to have occurred on Aug. 20, 2014. Researchers found that it disrupted GPS signals, shook Earth's magnetic field, and packed the upper atmosphere with extra electrons.
"Our study demonstrates that space hurricanes can trigger significant space weather effects, even during what are generally viewed as extremely quiet periods," study lead author Sheng Lu, who is a scientist at the Institute of Space Sciences at Shandong University in China, and his colleagues wrote in the study, which was published in July in the journal Space Weather.
A stealth storm in space
The 2014 space hurricane, first formally described in 2021, was initially detected by the U.S. military's DMSP F17 satellite, which monitors space weather conditions. Minutes later, the European Space Agency's Swarm B satellite flew through a nearby region, gathering key data that confirmed the storm's structure and size, according to the new study.
