Trump says he will nominate acting AG Todd Blanche to permanently lead Justice Department
|
|
President Donald Trump said Wednesday evening that he plans to nominate acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to permanently lead the Department of Justice.
In a video posted to social media by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, Trump can be seen announcing that he will nominate Blanche for the position after he assumed the role on an interim basis following former Attorney General Pam Bondi's firing in early April.
"Tomorrow I'm instructing Dan [Scavino] and everybody else that's involved in that very complicated process, which is gonna go, I think, very quickly, that we are going to make him permanent Attorney General," Trump said in the video, which was recorded during a Rose Garden Club Dinner on Wednesday evening at the White House. Trump scores victory despite growing GOP divide after Senate passes $70B ICE, Border Patrol funding package
|

Senate Republicans managed to stitch together a unified front to advance President Donald Trump's roughly $70 billion immigration enforcement package, but divisions over the president’s agenda were laid bare after a marathon day of votes.
Passage of the budget reconciliation package geared toward funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol for the next three and a half years closes a long, drawn out chapter in the Senate that began during the longest shutdown in history.
It’s a point that Senate Republicans tried to return to throughout the day, reiterating that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Democrats had forced their hands after refusing to fund immigration operations without a plethora of reforms.
"Democrats would not agree to anything, and eventually they walked away altogether, presumably because they thought that it would serve them better to have an issue for November," Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said.

150+ Congress members call on Trump admin to restore Protect Life rule that cuts abortion funding
|
|
159 members of Congress have signed a letter renewing calls for the Trump administration to reinstate the most consequential pro-life funding measure of President Donald Trump’s first term, to more thoroughly keep federal dollars from the abortion industry.
The Protect Life Rule required “clear financial and physical separation between Title X-funded projects and programs or facilities where abortion is a method of family planning” and banned “referral for abortion as a method of family planning.” It reduced Planned Parenthood’s annual funding by almost $60 million, and disqualified the abortion giant from any Title X for which it would have otherwise qualified.
The rule has yet to be restored in Trump’s second term, so on May 28, Sens. Cindy Hyde-Smith and Roger Wicker and Reps. Trent Kelly and Michael Guest (all Republicans from Mississippi) led a new letter addressed to U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services (HHS) Robert F. Leftists Organize Counterprogramming to Official Freedom 250 Celebrations
|

Hopes that America’s 250th birthday would be a time of national unity and healing have not been fulfilled so far. After a bipartisan commission (America 250) formed in 2016 dissolved into internal squabbles with little to show for its years of planning, President Trump authorized his own commission (Freedom 250) to organize celebrations worthy of the occasion. But the Left refuses to approve anything touched by Trump, even if it simply cheers on America, so a band of committed leftists is now organizing their own summer events as counterprogramming to the official celebrations of America. Early signs suggest that their events, organized under the title “Next250,” will prioritize protest over celebration.
The Next250 movement is co-chaired by two former organizers of the Women’s March, Linda Sarsour and Carmen Perez. The Women’s March became the face of anti-Trump protests during his first administration, although it fell into disrepute after its leadership’s ties to notorious anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan were exposed. Sarsour and other organizers stepped down in 2019, while Perez lingered to facilitate a leadership transition.
Sarsour announced the tone of the Next250 campaign on Sunday, “America’s next 250 years start with us. As attacks on voting rights continue, immigrant communities are targeted, and too many of our neighbors are pushed to the margins, this moment demands more than remembrance — it demands action.” (Washington Stand) Read more here.

Ten missile barrages were launched from Iran toward Israel on Sunday night, prompting interception efforts by the Israel Defense Forces and triggering emergency restrictions across the country after a day of mounting tensions linked to Israeli strikes in Beirut.
The military said it detected the launches and was operating to intercept the incoming missiles.

Israel struck Hezbollah targets in the outskirts of Beirut on Sunday for the first time since the US announced a truce plan for Lebanon last week, and Iranian officials threatened to retaliate, casting the talks to end the wider war into new jeopardy.
Iran has long said any peace deal with the United States would depend on a ceasefire also holding in Lebanon, which Israel invaded in March in pursuit of Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorists who fired across the border in solidarity with Tehran.
Iran‘s chief negotiator, parliamentary speaker Mohammed Baqer Qalibaf, said that US bases and Israeli assets were legitimate targets because of hostile acts including the “violation of agreements over Lebanon.”
“They showed that they only understand the language of power,” he wrote on X.

3. IDF strikes Hezbollah command centers in Beirut's Dahiyeh after cross-border fire - Israel Hayom
The Israel Defense Forces attacked Hezbollah targets in the Dahiyeh district of Beirut. In a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office, the IDF said it had struck terrorist command centers in Dahiyeh in Beirut, in response to Hezbollah fire at Israeli territory.
Lebanon reported a strike on a building in Dahiyeh in Beirut, with at least one person killed. Arab media outlets reported that the strike in Dahiyeh targeted a residential apartment used as a Hezbollah command center. It was also reported that the strike involved the launch of three missiles. Sources told the Saudi Al-Hadath channel that Israel had notified the US administration in advance of the strike in Beirut's Dahiyeh.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi threatened four days ago that any attack on Beirut would lead to the renewal of war in the region. Araghchi warned that the war would resume on a broad scale. "Any attack in Beirut will have dangerous consequences, and it will lead to renewed war on a broad scale. Iranian forces are on alert to attack Israel if it attacks Beirut," he said. (Read more)

We will continue to act until we achieve the goal of disarming Hamas. This is a goal we are not giving up on.”

1. Trump Targets Cuba’s Power Structure In Sweeping Blow To Communist Elites – Daily Wire
The Trump administration delivered a sweeping blow to the Cuban regime on Thursday, sanctioning its president, members of the Castro family dynasty, Cuba’s military ministry, and a gold mining operation that funnels wealth to regime elites.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has framed the Trump administration’s efforts as an existential campaign against a government he considers a direct threat to American security.
Secretary Rubio announced the designations under a May 1 executive order, targeting five Cuban entities and five individuals. 2. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes Seeks New Indictment in Trump 2020 Election Case - Breitbart
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is reportedly seeking a new indictment pertaining to President Trump and the 2020 election.
“The Arizona Attorney General’s Office will return this case to the grand jury,” Mayes spokesperson Richie Taylor said on Thursday. “We decline to comment further at this time.”
Mayes’ office confirmed that she will be seeking new indictments against allies of Trump who aided him in his contesting of the 2020 election after the Arizona “high court shot down an effort to revive her sprawling first indictment against them,” per Politico.

The announcement by Mayes, a Democrat, came moments after the Arizona Supreme Court publicly revealed a June 2 decision to deny Mayes’ bid to revive the case against some of Trump’s top allies, which was dismissed over a judge’s finding that there was a defect in the grand jury indictment.
The brief, unexplained decision closed the book on a two-year-old case that threatened some of Trump’s closest allies, including former chief of staff Mark Meadows, attorneys Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman and nearly a dozen GOP activists who falsely claimed to be legitimate presidential electors despite Trump’s defeat in the state. Trump himself was named by the unusually aggressive grand jury as an unindicted co-conspirator.
The judge overseeing the case tossed it last year after finding that Mayes’ prosecutors failed to present the original grand jury with the precise text of the law that Trump’s allies were accused of seeking to violate. In November, Mayes asked the Arizona Supreme Court to reverse the lower-court rulings. (Read more)

4. 40% of All Babies Born in U.S. Last Year Were to Unmarried Mothers, Data Shows - The Washington Stand
Despite positive recent trends for family stability, including increasing numbers of babies born to college-educated women who are married, the overall proportion of babies born to unwed mothers is not declining, according to a new data analysis.
The report, published Wednesday by Institute for Family Studies (IFS) Senior Fellow Nicholas Zill, pointed out that 40% of all births in the U.S. in 2025 were to unmarried women, amounting to 1,440,031 babies. While the proportion of unmarried births has not increased compared to previous years, it still remains concerningly high. Last year’s total “compares with 40% in 2022 and in 2023; 33% in 2000; and 32% in 1995,” Zill noted.
Social science data has overwhelmingly confirmed that children born to their married parents have significantly better outcomes than children born to single mothers. One recent survey of available data found that children born to married parents “are significantly more likely to be ‘on track’ at every life stage than children who are born to unmarried parents.” Children who are “on track” as defined by the Social Genome Model are those who achieve age-appropriate benchmarks for every stage in life. For example, an “on track” child at the end of elementary school “has mastered basic math and reading skills, has acquired the behavioral competencies that are predictive of later success, has a strong relationship with his or her parent(s), and is in good health.” (Read more)

A longtime “Defund the Police” advocate who could be the next mayor of the nation’s capital has argued that American policing is “rooted in white supremacy” — and she, like NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, is also a member of Democratic Socialists of America.
Janeese Lewis George, who won her D.C. President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he will hold a massive rally in Washington, D.C., later this month to kick off the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.
Trump said in a Truth Social post that the event would feature guest speakers and musical performances as part of what he described as a "rally to end all rallies."
"On Wednesday, June 24th, at 7 P.M., in magnificent Washington, D.C., now totally beautified, and one of the Safest Cities anywhere in the World, and in celebration of our Country’s 250 Year History, we will be bringing you, LIVE, the Greatest Rally, EVER!" Trump wrote.
"It will be special at every level — A Rally to end all Rallies!" Trump continued. "We don’t want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you to sleep, we’ve told them all to stay home. Pentagon drops 180 faiths from military's recognized religions list
|

The Department of War has officially removed 180 faiths from its list of recognized religions, acting on a change previously announced by War Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The U.S. Military Chaplain Corps previously recognized over 200 faith codes that servicemembers could claim affiliation with. That number now sits at just 31 as of a Thursday memo from Undersecretary of Defense Anthony Tata, according to Military.com.
Tata's memo says the change will "streamline the DoW collection of religious preferences for service members to enhance the delivery of targeted religious support from the Chaplaincy."
"The new list will provide chaplains with clear, readily available information that will better enable them to anticipate the religious support needs of service members and to provide religious support activities that align with service members’ personal faith and practices," he added. Chris Murphy Admits To Funding Street Protesters,
Tells Activists 2028 Election Might Not Happen

A top Democrat claimed he did not know if there would be an election in 2028 and called for activist organizations to take to “the streets” to “save our democracy” while trying to sell his book.
During a recent book tour stop, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), a potential presidential candidate, said that money should be funneled to leftist activists to ensure that upcoming elections are “fair and free.” Murphy made the dramatic claims during a Q&A with ex-NBC journalist Katie Couric at Judson Memorial Church in Manhattan pushing his book “Crisis of the Common Good.”
When asked if he had any national aspirations, Murphy said, “Here’s the honest truth: I don’t know that there’s going to be an election in 2028.”
Couric interjected, “Don’t say that.”
“I think there is, but we gotta do the work,” Murphy replied. “And so, I am spending all of my time trying to make sure that democracy still exists, trying to preserve what we have.”

A New Congressional Plan to Save $1.5 Trillion and End Abortion Funding
|

The Heritage Foundation released its version of Reconciliation 3.0, a new plan to end federal funding for abortion, combat fraud, and save America $1.5 trillion.
The leading conservative policy institute on Wednesday unveiled “Setting the American Opportunity Agenda,” a special budget and spending report for Congress, and House Speaker Mike Johnson said he is ready to act on it.
While the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” was successful, the GOP can save Americans even more money, and the foundation says its plan could be the answer.

Traces of rare purple dye mentioned in Bible passages found in 'remarkable' discovery

Archaeologists recently uncovered traces of a rare purple dye associated with biblical-era luxury in an unexpected place.
They found them at Roman infant burials sites in England.
The York graves date from the late third or early fourth century A.D. One infant was laid to rest alongside two adults in a stone coffin — while the other was buried in a lead coffin.
Researchers recently analyzed the preserved remains and textiles in the burials. Using chemical testing, they found traces of Tyrian purple.
"The babies were wrapped in a fine textile of Tyrian purple embellished with gold thread — a cloth of the highest possible status and luxury known in the Roman world," an April 30 statement from the University of York noted.
The find "suggests the babies were from families of significant social standing," officials said, adding that the purple cloth was "normally reserved for emperors and members of the aristocracy."
The university said that "during the Roman period, the dye was a commodity valued at up to three times the price of gold."
The dye, harvested by crushing the shells of murex mollusks, was mentioned in the Bible several times.
One biblical reference to purple textiles appears in Acts 16:14, which describes a female merchant.
In Mark 15:17, Jesus was dressed in purple cloth by his captors in order to humiliate him, since the color was associated with royalty.
