Announcing "The Contrast for America"

Speaker Mike Johnson has laid out a document that clearly defines the difference between the Democrat's socialist ("crazy") platform with the Republican's common sense agenda. To read this document, "Contrast for America," please go here and pass this on to others who will vote next month to restore a "common sense" agenda for our nation. Vote Republican!

Man on ‘Mission’ to Handwrite Entire New Testament:

 ‘Anchor for My Soul’
It took Don Ashley about 210 hours over eight months and 15 days to write his own handwritten copy of the New Testament. Ashley, a recently retired university administrator who relocated from Anchorage, Alaska, to farmland in Arkansas, posted to social media this month that he’d just completed the project — an endeavor he said he began “on a whim” on Jan. 5. But what started as an impulse quickly turned into what he called "' a mission'. In all these life transitions,” he told CBN News, “this really served as an anchor for my soul.”

The idea, he explained, was born out of a work trip to the Society of Biblical Literature, a 146-year-old learning society dedicated to the academic study of the Bible and other ancient writings. When he was at the meeting in San Diego, Ashley saw a display of the Dead Sea Scrolls, a collection of roughly 1,000 ancient Jewish manuscripts dating from the 3rd century B.C. to the 1st century A.D. They were discovered in the 1940s and 50s. “I was so impressed by the artistry required … that I wanted to experience something about what the ancient scribes experienced,” Ashley said. Abba, we are so grateful for life-changing impact made upon those who've had privilege to view a display of the sacred 'Dead Sea Scrolls'. Bless Don Ashley for sharing how he was greatly influenced and inspired to 'hand-write' the Bible from beginning to end, in order to accomplish what ancient scribes may have experienced. We celebrate the idea of this practice to internalize the Bible and understand deeper meaning of Elohim's holy Word. May believers who are prompted to do the same receive abundant blessings, as they record through their own pens, Words of scripture. May each brother and sister powerfully receive what the Lord has specifically ordained in the lives of His saints! By the Blood of the Lamb we pray-Amen.

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."  (Hebrews 4:12)

House GOP crafts nuclear option for sanctuary cities, letting victims sue local officials

House Republicans are pushing ahead with sweeping legislation to obliterate sanctuary cities, setting up a post-election vote that would empower victims of illegal immigrants' crimes to sue the local officials who released them from custody.

The Shut Down Sanctuary Policies Act passed through the House Judiciary Committee with little fanfare last month, creating a path for GOP lawmakers to impose the toughest crackdown yet on states and cities that refuse to turn over illegal immigrants under federal detainers or outright release migrants in their custody.

The bill’s most poignant weapon creates a right of private action for victims and families of victims to sue the municipalities and officials who released violent offenders, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Just the News.

“It allows people who've been harmed, where local political leaders tell the local law enforcement they can't work with federal law enforcement, detainers aren't honored … to go take that city, take that state to court, and say, 'look, this was ridiculous. What happened and was so wrong, so tragic,'" Jordan explained. Read more

We give praise for this potential legislation and ask that it sends a powerful message to state and local officials. Thank You Father, that it will allow legal action against those whose evil decisions across the country have devastated families. We pray for this bill to pass easily through both houses, in Jesus's name, especially the Senate because we know President Trump will sign it into law. We believe for these consequences to result in a slow-down of releasing criminals quickly back into the communities, in Jesus's name. Father, we ask You to continue protecting ICE as they do their very best to remove the bad actors from our country and we ask that leadership that supports criminals would be removed and replaced with righteous leaders, for Your glory.

"'Hear, O our God, for we are despised: turn their reproach on their own heads, and give them as plunder to a land of captivity! Do not cover their iniquity, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before You; for they have provoked You to anger before the builders.'" (Nehemiah 4:4-5)

Teachers Union Blocks Feds From Finding Fraudulent School Bus Drivers

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has requested records from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators that would help the Department of Transportation identify bus drivers who are in the country illegally, obtained their credentials fraudulently, or both. The American Federation of Teachers, led by Randi Weingarten, has joined a lawsuit with 21 blue states and Washington, D.C. to block the request.

Weingarten claims concern for driver privacy. But the data could expose CDL holders who obtained their credentials under false pretenses, and that appears to be the real worry.

Federal regulations prohibit illegal immigrants from obtaining commercial driver’s licenses, with only narrow exceptions for certain lawful non-citizen residents. But lax oversight during the Biden administration allowed CDL mills to flourish. These sham operations credential drivers with little to no training. CDL holders are supposed to communicate in English, yet some mills have licensed drivers who cannot even read road signs.

This is not the first time teacher union leadership has put its own interests ahead of student safety. The Defense of Freedom Institute has documented how unions have pressured school districts into keeping sexual abusers on payrolls and adopting “restorative practices” that allow classrooms to descend into chaos and sometimes violence.

Holy One, we pray for Randi Weingarten to repent from her wicked ways and find salvation, in Jesus's name. We also pray for all illegal school bus drivers to be removed from their very great responsibility driving our children to and from school every day, in Jesus's name. Mighty God, we ask that You would remove this rabid activist from the leadership of this massive teacher's union. After 18 years of dismantling our education system from one of the best in the world to an abysmal record, we pray for her to be replaced with a strong and righteous leader, in Jesus's name.

"For the Lord Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth. He will subdue the peoples under us, And the nations under our feet. He will choose our inheritance for us, The excellence of Jacob whom He loves. Selah" (Psalm 47:2-4)

Why China cares about data centers in Arkansas

Today, China is trying to slow the pace of data center development across the country, including in states across the nation like Georgia, Virginia and Arkansas. This is because the U.S. is locked in an AI arms race with China and the winner of this high-stakes AI competition may well dominate the global economy and enjoy military supremacy.

Raising awareness of this threat to our national security, Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton recently urged the Department of Justice to investigate Beijing's efforts to block data centers in America by working through U.S. nonprofits.

Even more concerning is that EFC's leadership still has ties to senior Communist Party officials, and it has been criticized for supporting energy policies in the U.S. that benefit China. Transparency groups have raised alarm bells and, last July, the Kansas Attorney General alleged that EFC plays a "central role" in "China's ongoing asymmetric campaign against the United States…" and called on the U.S. Department of Justice to launch an investigation into EFC.

Finally, as someone who has closely studied China's long-term goals to achieve global domination, I cannot stress enough that Beijing's efforts to influence public policy in the U.S. are a legitimate threat. Therefore, it's fair to point out China's investment in AAEF and Arkansans and ask: "is this just a coincidence or does China have an agenda to thwart data center construction that puts our national security at risk?" In fact, residents of all states where China is funding anti-data center propaganda should be asking that same question. Read more

Mighty God, this is a very tangled web of intrigue, disloyalty and corruption taking place right in front of the news. May we stand powerfully against unrighteousness in all the affairs of our states and nation, in Jesus's name. We break the alliances between China and corrupt leaders in the U.S. in the name of Jesus and we declare that our covenant nation will submit to the fear of Almighty God in justice and governance. May we ratchet up the light of God's glory so that all hidden things are exposed and all wicked deeds are defeated, in Jesus's name.

"Also I will make justice the measuring line, And righteousness the plummet; The hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, And the waters will overflow the hiding place. Your covenant with death will be annulled, And your agreement with Sheol will not stand; When the overflowing scourge passes through, Then you will be trampled down by it." (Isaiah 28:17-18)

Maricopa County Election Employees Seen Late at Night Using Flash Drives on Certified Equipment Ahead of Election Day – Maricopa Attempts Damage Control

Maricopa County election employees are believed to have been seen tampering with voting equipment late at night this week, appearing to install or download something on election equipment that has already been certified for use on November 3.

The county claims that they were just “working on a legitimate election task, late into the night.” But according to Phoenix-based election watchdog group We the People Alliance, the employees left for the day at approximately 6:20 pm, then returned late at night around 9:08 pm until 11:15 pm.

Additionally, co-founder of We the People Shelby Busch tells The Gateway Pundit, “There are two flaws with the Maricopa County Election Department’s statement of transparency. First, they fail to disclose to the public what this ‘legitimate election task’ was that required occurring late into the night, and second, they indicate this can be viewed 24/7 by the public; however, the feed published by WTP USA does not appear to be part of the public feeds.”

“We do not presume to know what was on those flash drives, but what we do know is that secure computers were unlocked and external devices were inserted into highly sensitive systems late at night and without any public oversight. Additional video footage we obtained also raises heavy concern over the chain of custody of the external flash drive,” she added. Read more

Righteous God, we continue to pray for our elections to be protected, secure and uncorruptible through devious means, in Jesus's name. We pray for the attention of righteous authorities to see and take action investigating this report. May the unrighteous deeds being planned and implemented against Godliness and justice in our nation be overthrown and stopped in their tracks, in the name of Jesus. Holy One, we beseech You to help every group across this land who are working to establish honorable elections, we pray for You to expose and impede all unrighteous actions, so that You are exalted in this land.

"'Remember this, and show yourselves men; Recall to mind, O you transgressors. Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, "My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure," Calling a bird of prey from the east, The man who executes My counsel, from a far country. Indeed I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it.'" (Isaiah 46:8-11)
FOCUS ON ISRAEL

1. Netanyahu, Eisenkot blocs struggle to secure majority, raising fears of another election deadlock -Jerusalem Post

With just two weeks to go before Israel’s election, the political chessboard is set, and there is little indication that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has found a winning move.

Israel’s voters do not elect the prime minister directly; instead, the prime minister must assemble a coalition commanding a majority of the Knesset’s 120 seats. That means Benjamin Netanyahu’s chances of retaining power depend in part on how well his smaller political allies perform at the polls.

There are 38 parties running in these elections, although no more than 15 will meet the 3.25% vote threshold - the percentage of the total vote that a party needs to clear to gain any seats in the Knesset. The parties that will be left standing after the Oct. 27 vote will likely include three or four on the right, led by Netanyahu’s Likud list; four or five on the center-left, with polling showing the new Yashar party led by Gadi Eizenkot, a former military chief of staff, leading them; two Haredi Orthodox parties; and two predominantly Arab parties. 2. Netanyahu confirms Egyptian intelligence chief visited Israel before October 7
- Israel National News

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed Tuesday evening that an Egyptian aircraft landed in Israel just days before the October 7 massacre, but insisted that he did not meet with Egypt's then-intelligence chief, Abbas Kamel, and does not know whom Kamel met during his visit.

Speaking in an interview on Channel 14's “The Patriots", Netanyahu acknowledged that the visit had taken place while firmly denying that he had personally met with the Egyptian official.

"Since when does an intelligence chief come and speak with a head of state? That has never happened, not even once. There's no such thing," Netanyahu said. (Read more)

3. Israel to ban fiber, SIM-controlled drones amid intelligence on plots to target senior officials - Israel Hayom

Defense Minister Israel Katz is expected to sign a special security order on Sunday banning the operation of drones controlled via fiber-optic cables or cellular SIM cards throughout Israeli-controlled airspace.

The temporary ban will remain in effect for six months from the date of signing and is intended to address immediate security concerns while additional solutions are developed. The move follows a decision by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Katz that was approved by the Diplomatic-Security Cabinet.

According to Israeli defense officials, the decision comes amid specific intelligence and growing threats from both within Israel and abroad. These include drone attacks, plots to target senior officials, the use of drones by criminals and organized crime families, intelligence gathering and smuggling operations. Given the severity and range of the threats, officials determined that countermeasures were needed not only in security zones and along Israel's borders but also to combat drone-related terrorism within the country (Read more)

4. Bomb threat forces evacuation of Delta flight at Ben Gurion Airport
- World Israel News

Passengers aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from New York were evacuated after landing at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport on Tuesday morning following an anonymous bomb threat, prompting an extensive security operation that ultimately found no evidence of explosives.

The warning was received shortly before the aircraft landed, with some reports indicating that airport security officials were alerted approximately 10 minutes before its arrival.

Following the warning, authorities directed the aircraft to a remote parking area, away from the airport’s passenger terminals, and ordered everyone aboard to disembark.

5. Israeli Archaeologists Uncover 2,000-Year-Old Aqueduct That Brought Water to Jerusalem’s Temple Mount - Algemeiner

Israeli archaeologists have uncovered a remarkably preserved, 2,000-year-old aqueduct that once supplied water to Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, revealing an extraordinary feat of ancient Jewish engineering that remained in use for nearly two millennia.

The Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) announced Sunday that excavations near Kibbutz Ramat Rachel, south of Jerusalem, had exposed a 300-meter (984-foot) section of the city’s ancient Lower Aqueduct, believed to have been constructed during the Hasmonean dynasty in the Second Temple period.

The discovery offers a rare glimpse into the ingenuity of Jerusalem’s ancient inhabitants, who devised a sophisticated system to transport fresh water across more than 20 kilometers of rugged terrain — entirely without pumps or mechanical assistance.

1. Pastor Who Stood Up to Satanic Curse Speaks Out: ‘You Can’t Do That, Not Here’ - Washington Stand

When Pastor Rick Bick entered the Ottumwa City Council meeting on Tuesday, he didn’t expect to be rebuking a satanic prayer.

Bick, a pastor at New Life Center Foursquare Church in Ottumwa, watched in horror from the audience. During a Thursday appearance on “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins,” Bick explained that after Dalbey spoke the devil’s name, Bick confronted him. “I turned to him, and I said, ‘Did you just say Hail Satan?’ ... And he goes, ‘Yeah, if you can say in the name of Jesus, I can say, Hail Satan.’ I just looked at him. I said, ‘No, you can’t do that here, not here.’ And he ran out of the building.”

Bick then walked to the microphone at the front of the room and called for a reversal of the curse he believed had been cast on the city. “Let’s just reverse this curse that was put on our city. That ending with ‘Hail Satan’ or ‘Hail dark god,’ that’s not welcome here,” Bick recalled he asserted during a Thursday appearance on Washington Watch with Tony Perkins.

Bick continued that after the incident, he felt righteous indignation. “I just said, no, this is not happening here. We’ve been praying for our city, for blessings, for good things to happen.” Read more

Praise God for this pastor who is called courageous for doing what every Christian is called to do – speak the truth in love. We bless this pastor and his community, praying for God's hedge of protection to surround them and may the message of salvation be heard far and wide and may the community of Ottumwa turn from darkness to light because of the example presented by this strong man of God, in Jesus's name.

"Therefore as through one man's offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous. Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more," (Romans 5:18-20)

2. Trump Administration Arrests Nearly 500 Criminal Fugitives Hiding in Taxpayer-Funded Housing Across America — Murder, Rape, Child Sex Crimes, Drug Trafficking — 10 Firearms Seized! - The Gateway Pundit

The Trump administration is cleaning house… literally!

Nearly 500 criminal fugitives living in taxpayer-subsidized housing have been arrested in a sweeping nationwide law enforcement operation targeting dangerous offenders who were allegedly using government-assisted housing as a refuge from justice.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), under Secretary Scott Turner, announced that 491 fugitives were arrested during “Operation Clean House,” a coordinated federal crackdown involving the HUD Office of Inspector General, the U.S. Marshals Service, and state and local law enforcement agencies.

The multi-month operation unfolded throughout 2026 across 12 cities, including New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Memphis, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Minneapolis, and New Orleans.

According to HUD’s official October 8 announcement, authorities targeted fugitives residing in federally assisted housing, including individuals wanted on outstanding felony warrants for some of the most serious crimes imaginable. Read more

Thank You Jesus for the Administration's determination to "clean house" across the country. We pray that the fugitives will all be brought to justice and that these houses will be made available for the needy in these regions. We pray that the bad actors will receive the consequences due their actions and justice will be served, in Jesus' name.

"Then justice will dwell in the wilderness, And righteousness remain in the fruitful field. The work of righteousness will be peace, And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever. My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, In secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places." (Isaiah 32:16-18)

3. Scrutiny of El-Sayed's alleged ties to Muslim Brotherhood grow following interview - Just The News

Alleged ties between the Muslim Brotherhood and the family of Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed are facing increased scrutiny following the candidate's interview Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

However, the Washington Beacon reported that El-Sayed's mother was active in the Muslim Brotherhood while she attended college in Egypt, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

Eman Abdelhadi, a University of Chicago professor and El-Sayed’s half-sister, posted comments on X about her mother and other family members' ties to the Islamic group in June 2012, shortly after Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Morsi was elected president of Egypt.

"Had an amazing talk with my mom about her activism in the Muslim Brotherhood during the early 70s while she was in college," Abdelhadi said in one post. In another post, she stated that her family has "long been" associated with the group. Read more

Thank You Father for shining a light on this connection with a terror organization. We pray for all things that circumvent the rule of law in the US to be brought forth so that judgments may be made, in Jesus' name. We pray for the investigators to be thorough and diligent in finding the truth and revealing everything that could disqualify this person from a position in our US Government, in Jesus' name.

The Lord is exalted, for He dwells on high; He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness. Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times, And the strength of salvation; The fear of the Lord is His treasure." (Isaiah 33:5-6)

4. White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia to Breitbart: We Will Keep and Expand New Media Seat - Breitbart

Breitbart News Washington Correspondent Nick Gilbertson, sitting in the New Media seat at Zacharia’s first briefing, received the first question of the press conference and asked the new press secretary about the White House’s efforts to add new media voices to the pool, as her predecessor Karoline Leavitt did under President Trump’s leadership.

“One of the things that your predecessor Karoline Leavitt did is open this room up to more voices, not less. At Breitbart, that’s something our founder Andrew Breitbart certainly believed in — whether that’s adding this new media seat, adding new media voices to the pool. Can you tell us what you plan to do to continue to ensure that new media voices continue to be heard here at the White House?” Gilbertson asked.

“Firstly, my predecessor Karoline Levitt did an incredible job, and I completely agree with the choice of new media seat,” she said. “We are absolutely going to keep it, and we’re going to expand on it to the extent possible.”

Zacharia added, “We love new media, and we want to be able to embrace it.” Read more

We bless our new press secretary, Katie Zacharia in this great, new job she has been appointed to steward, in Jesus's name. We pray for God's anointing on her, granting wisdom, tact and authority as she faces the onslaught of both the "fake news" mainstream media as well as "new" media members. We bless her family as she has become the contact for our President and will be on his speed-dial at all hours of the day or night. We thank You Abba, for the new and trustworthy media outlets who are determined to put forward accurate reporting and we ask You to prosper them and broadcast their messages farther than ever before, in Jesus's name.

"'Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.'" (1 Samuel 12:24)

5. 'Temper their excitement': The media are suddenly less sure about a Democrat wave - WND

After months of flooding the zone with glum predictions for Republicans, there's been a quiet but meaningful shift in major media headlines. Left-leaning outlets desperate to make the GOP's demise a self-fulfilling prophecy seem to be subtly hedging their bets against another polling embarrassment. In the last handful of days, even the big dogs—The New York Times, Washington Post, and Newsweek—are conceding that maybe the election forecasts aren't as lopsided as they've been leading voters to believe.

In the modern age, Republicans have consistently outperformed the industry's numbers in presidential and midterm elections. Pollsters have frantically tried to solve this puzzle, especially after a string of national humiliations. After a lot of head-scratching, two theories for this unpredictability revolve around the GOP.

In places like Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, and Texas, Newsweek warns, Democrats appear to have a polling edge. "But Republicans have outperformed polling averages in many of those same states over the past few elections. Polling errors are not necessarily repeated from cycle to cycle. But a similar pro-Republican polling error this cycle would not bode well for Democrats' chances of flipping the Senate." Read more

Thank You Father, for being the strong tower of our nation and we ask You to grant victory for every person You have appointed to be elected. We give You praise for hearing and answering our prayers to redeem this nation from the grip of opposition and continuing to lead our President and the conservative leaders. It is a given that the polls will be unreliable and those who track them cannot comprehend the impact of prayer and our God's answers, but we know and thank You for the outcomes, in Jesus' name. It is encouraging to see some outlets being compelled to more accuracy as a consequence of being humbled by the truth and we pray for even more in Jesus' name.

"'"These are the things you shall do: Speak each man the truth to his neighbor; Give judgment in your gates for truth, justice, and peace; Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor; And do not love a false oath. For all these are things that I hate," Says the Lord.'" (Zechariah 8:16-17)
6. A charitable society - AFA

In July, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced details of his plan for five taxpayer-funded, city-owned grocery stores. The stores would offer discounts on essential groceries, with taxpayers absorbing costs private businesses would usually cover. Proponents of this plan support this compassionate idea: Families are struggling with rising costs, so the government will make food more affordable. Opponents suggest that behind this promise lies a troubling question: When did government redistribution become charity?

Christian charity differs in its foundation. Believers are instructed in 2 Corinthians 9:7, “Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion.”

It is voluntary, personal, and rooted in love. The giver decides what to offer – money, food, clothing, time, or service – and often makes a genuine sacrifice. These individual decisions require Christians to understand the needs around them and become personally involved in the lives of others.

Socialism replaces that relationship with government transactions. The state determines how much to collect, where the money will go, who qualifies, and what conditions recipients and providers must follow. Citizens become sources of revenue, while people in need become government customers. Read more

Holy One, may the body of Christ grow in its calling to steward the citizens of this nation, in Jesus's name. There are many challenges that the government must meet, such as enforcing the laws and international affairs, but there are many things that the ekklesia might do better. Perhaps You are speaking to us to fill in a void that the socialist/communist agenda has targeted, so we pray for Your guidance and provision to step into responsibilities we may have been neglecting, in Jesus's name. We pray for the widows and orphans and ask that we see them well enough to make a difference and to let Your light shine, in Your name.

"Then Jesus answered and said to them, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.'" (John 5:20-21)

Midterm Polls: Watch The Trend

The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, October 13, 2026

Political polls are all over the place. One may have President Donald Trump’s approval in the low 30s while another has him in the mid-40s. Congressional generic ballot polls also vary widely. Rather than chase every headline, The Daily Jot is going to watch something potentially more revealing between now and Election Day: the trend. Jesus said in Matthew 7:20, “Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” Words and snapshots tell you one thing. What actually develops over time tells you something more. So we are establishing a late-September baseline and will use the same measurements to follow the movement through Election Day.

Polling has problems. Sampling, weighting, question wording and whether pollsters survey adults, registered voters or likely voters can change the result. Pew Research Center also reports growing evidence that Republicans have become somewhat less likely than Democrats to participate in polls, creating what researchers call “partisan nonresponse bias.” Pew says this contributed to underestimating Republican support in the 2016, 2020 and 2024 presidential elections. That is why our focus will be less on whether one poll says Democrats are ahead by eight points while another says five. We will compare pollsters primarily against their own previous results, then look for movement confirmed by several different polling organizations. Read More

NASA’s Perseverance Sets Off-World Record for Total Distance Driven

NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover has driven farther than any vehicle ever has on the surface of another world. On Oct. 11, the rover’s odometer reached 28.10 miles (45.22 kilometers), eclipsing the record of 28.06 miles (45.16 kilometers) set by NASA’s Opportunity rover, which explored Mars from 2004 to 2018. Perseverance reached the mark on the 2,006th Martian day, or sol, of its mission, covering in five and a half years a distance that took Opportunity almost 15.

The milestone came as Perseverance traveled toward an area called “Idubi” through the region off the western rim of Jezero Crater nicknamed “Lac de Charmes,” where the rover is investigating what may be some of the oldest terrain ever explored in the solar system. The rocks and terrain of Lac de Charmes are so ancient that their Earthly equivalents have long since been erased by erosion and plate tectonics (Mars doesn’t have tectonic plates), and Idubi is where the science team hopes to find traces of ancient hydrothermal systems.

Much of the credit belongs to Perseverance’s self-driving capability. Using an autonomous navigation system known as AutoNav, the rover images the terrain while rolling, builds a 3D map of hazards, and plots its course between waypoints selected by rover planners on Earth — a capability the team calls “thinking while driving.” Perseverance can do all that at or near its top speed, covering as much as 1,351 feet (412 meters) in a single sol. The six-wheeled scientist has driven more than 90% of its total distance using AutoNav to evaluate the terrain, compared with about 5% for the first Martian AutoNav system on Opportunity and its twin, Spirit. Where NASA’s first Mars rover, Sojourner, assessed the path ahead using 20 measurement points, Perseverance processes 600,000 with every look. (NASA) Read More
