Handful of Republicans sink Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' in key House committee

The bill failed to pass the House Budget Committee on Friday

President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill" failed to pass the House Budget Committee on Friday, in what appears to be a massive blow to House GOP leaders' plans to hold a House-wide vote next week.

Republican Reps. Chip Roy of Texas, Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma, Andrew Clyde of Georgia and Ralph Norman of South Carolina all voted against the legislation.

A fifth House Republican, Rep. Lloyd Smucker of Pennsylvania, also switched his vote from "yes" to "no," though it was a procedural maneuver that allows him to bring the legislation up again. Smucker told reporters he was "quite confident" in the bill's success.

House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, has directed the panel to reconvene on Sunday night at 10 p.m. for another vote.

The committee met to mark up and debate the bill, a massive piece of legislation that’s a product of 11 different House committees’ individual efforts to craft policy under their jurisdictions. The result is a wide-ranging bill that advances Trump’s priorities on the border, immigration, taxes, energy, defense and raising the debt limit.

Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., has said he wants the legislation to pass the House by Memorial Day, with a goal of syncing up with the Senate and getting a bill to Trump's desk by the Fourth of July.

That's still possible if Republicans on the House Budget Committee strike an agreement to advance the legislation on Monday.

Afterwards, it would head to the House Rules Committee for any potential changes, before a House-wide vote sometime later in the week. (Fox News) Read more here.

- Father God, we ask You to untangle this tangled mess, according to Your will. Now that the vote on this bill has come to an apparent finish line at the committee level, only You can determine its final outcome. We ask that You would make a way, where there seems to be no way, to change the hearts of the members who have voted to veto this bill, and give each one a heart to see the way forward. In Your name, Holy One, we offer this prayer. Amen and Amen.

- "The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord,
Like the rivers of water;
He turns it wherever He wishes." (Proverbs 21:1)

‘Clear and Decisive Victory’: South Carolina Supreme Court Upholds ‘Heartbeat Law’
‘Clear and Decisive Victory’: South Carolina Supreme Court Upholds ‘Heartbeat Law’

The South Carolina Supreme Court unanimously upheld the 2023 Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act, which safeguards babies from surgical or chemical termination the moment medical technology can detect “cardiac activity, or the steady and repetitive rhythmic contraction of the fetal heart.” After losing a previous case to declare the law unconstitutional, Planned Parenthood focused its third round of jurisprudence against the act on trying to redefine the onset of a “fetal heartbeat” from six weeks to at least nine weeks, affording the abortion giant to commit three more weeks of unrestrained abortion. But justices ruled that Planned Parenthood did not believe some of its own arguments, which relied heavily on semantics.

The state Supreme Court ruled unanimously on Wednesday that, while medical professionals may “disagree on [the] precise meaning” of nearly every medical term in the law, its use of the term “fetal heartbeat” constitutes a “biologically identifiable moment in time ... when electrical impulses are detectable on an ultrasound — which even Planned Parenthood acknowledges occurs at approximately six weeks of pregnancy.”

“Time and time again, we have defended the right to life in South Carolina, and time and time again, we have prevailed,” said South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster (R). “Today’s ruling is another clear and decisive victory that will ensure the lives of countless unborn children remain protected and that South Carolina continues to lead the charge in defending the sanctity of life.”

We commend the South Carolina legislature and Governor McMaster for enacting a pro-life law that relies on sound medical science and statistical evidence, which shows that a detectable fetal heartbeat reliably and overwhelmingly predicts a healthy live birth. The state’s high court was right to uphold this law, which is critical for protecting mothers and their unborn babies,” Erin Hawley, vice president of the Alliance Defending Freedom’s Center for Life and Regulatory Practice, told The Washington Stand. “All human life is worth protecting, and the people of South Carolina have been eager to affirm life and prevent the obvious harms that abortion causes women and their children.” (The Washington Stand) Read more here.
- Father God we thank you for this ruling from the Supreme Court of South Carolina that bans abortion at six weeks when a babies heart beat can first be heard. We thank you for the thousands of precious lives that will be saved as a result of this unanimous ruling.  Father thank you for South Carolina's Governor, Henry McMaster, declaring “Today’s ruling is another clear and decisive victory that will ensure the lives of countless unborn children remain protected and that South Carolina continues to lead the charge in defending the sanctity of life.” Your word says that life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21) and Governor McMaster has declared life in SC through his words. May his words be declared by every Governor in every state in this nation and may every Supreme Court uphold the life of a person from conception to death. I pray this in Jesus' name. We praise you that the doors to Planned Parenthood are being closed as the demand for abortion is being restricted until abortion is no longer an option.I pray this in Jesus' name.

- "For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them."

Israel's concerns grow over US-Saudi arms deal
Israel's concerns grow over US-Saudi arms deal
The American president attempts to pull Saudi Arabia away from Chinese influence by selling advanced weapons and potentially F-35 aircraft, as the kingdom pledges to invest nearly a trillion dollars in the US economy.

US President Donald Trump's visit to Riyadh represents a pinnacle moment in his diplomatic journey across the Middle East, designed to bolster American influence throughout the region. The US administration has finalized an enormous weapons agreement with Saudi Arabia valued at $142 billion, triggering alarm among Israel's defense establishment. The agreement potentially threatens to undermine the "qualitative edge" of advanced weaponry that Israel maintains over other countries in the Middle East, including those not actively engaged in hostilities with Israel.

In parallel, Riyadh has pledged an unprecedented investment of roughly $600 billion in the American economy, possibly constituting one of the most significant economic exchanges ever conducted between the two countries. This push to strengthen relations with the Saudi kingdom isn't unprecedented. President Joe Biden, despite harboring ideological reservations about Saudi governance, also sought to establish a defense partnership with the Saudis while promoting normalization with Israel. Both administrations extended offers of sophisticated weaponry to Saudi Arabia to enhance its defensive capabilities against escalating threats across the Middle East. The kingdom maintains substantial, technologically advanced military forces equipped with Western armaments.

The American initiative unfolds against a backdrop of increasingly warm Saudi-Chinese relations in recent years, a development that troubles Washington, which views China as its primary rival for global influence. (Israel Hayom) Read more.

- Father God, only You know the details of these deals made by President Trump during his stay in Saudi Arabia. We trust that our president is being led by a form of wisdom that is not our own.

Lord God, we also bring our friends in the nation of Israel before Your Throne of Grace, asking for peace to surround both of our nations in this hour. May the trust that has been present between us be strengthened in this hour, and may we always pray for the peace of Jerusalem! In Your Holy Name, we offer this prayer, amen and amen!

- "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you."

Transportation Secretary Duffy puts painting of Jesus back to prominent location at naval academy
‘We are moving Jesus out of the basement. To all the great midshipmen at the Merchant Marine Academy, you let me know how important this painting was to all of you,’ Secretary Sean Duffy said.

According to the Academy’s website, “Christ on the Water” was painted in 1944 by Lt. Hunter Wood. Wood made it as “a tribute to all merchant seamen, especially to cadet-midshipmen who had been torpedoed during World War II.”

The painting is also known as “Jesus and Lifeboat” and stands 10 feet by 19 feet. It was initially going to be installed in a chapel located at the U.S. Merchant Marine Cadet Basic School, which was located in San Mateo, California. It was later placed in the chapel at the Academy’s Kings Point facility, which is located on New York’s Long Island.

Following a complaint from the Military Religious Freedom Foundation in 2023, the Biden administration removed it from the Elliot M. See Room and placed in the hallway below the Memorial Chapel. But Duffy has made the decision to restore the image despite the complaint and the seeming likelihood that he will face a lawsuit from the group. (LifeSite) Read more here.
- Father God, we say HALLELUJAH to this good report! We thank you that Secretary Duffy has taken this action, but we further ask that our Lord Jesus Christ would find a place not only in this setting, but also in the hearts of these midshipman. Let a move of REVIVAL spring forth on the campus of the Merchant Marine Academy!  In Your Holy name we offer this prayer, amen and amen!

- "Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (I Timothy 2:1-4)
Renewed severe weather outbreak threatens over 146 million with giant hail, strong tornadoes and extreme gusts

PADUCAH, Ky. – Another significant severe weather outbreak is unfolding across the Midwest and Ohio Valley on Friday, placing more than 146 million people under alert.

This comes following a turbulent Thursday that saw over a dozen tornado reports, more than 135 damaging wind incidents and over 90 reports of large hail across the Upper Midwest. The threat of these dangerous conditions is expected to persist and potentially intensify into early next week.

A first round of severe storms is actively being tracked across Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana and Arkansas on Friday morning. These storms threaten quarter-sized hail and damaging winds. In Arkansas, a particularly potent supercell thunderstorm is racing northeast at 55 mph, capable of producing winds exceeding 50 mph, the FOX Forecast Center said.

However, the most significant concern for Friday lies in the afternoon and evening hours, where NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has issued a Level 4 out of 5 risk of severe weather, particularly for southern Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.

This "bull's-eye" region faces a high potential for strong tornadoes, possibly EF-2 or stronger, and there is a possibility for a "high-end long-track tornado."

"We're not even talking about just the potential for tornadoes forming, but some of the tornadoes could be particularly strong, producing winds that are well over 115 mph," FOX Weather Meteorologist Britta Merwin said. (Fox News)
Read more here.

- Holy God, You are powerful and we are powerless. Only You have the authority to calm the winds, lessen the rains, and cause the tornadoes to disappear. So Father God, merciful one, we bring all the matters shown in this report to You, asking for mercy in our time of need! Come Lord Jesus, come, and demonstrate Your power before all mankind in this critical hour. Amen and amen!

- "But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!" (Matthew 8:27)
