Trump, Putin will hold first in-person meeting since Ukraine invasion next week in Alaska
|
|
President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet next Friday, August 15, for the first in-person meeting between leaders of the U.S. and Russia since Moscow launched its deadly 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
The leaders are expected to meet in Alaska, Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
"The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska," Trump wrote in his Friday evening post. "Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
The location of the meeting was a major point of interest after the summit was first floated following a call between Trump and Putin on Wednesday after White House envoy Steve Witkoff traveled to Moscow to meet with the Kremlin chief.
Hungary, Switzerland, Italy, and the UAE were all under consideration, with Putin originally favoring Hungary, according to sources familiar with the planning. (Fox News) Read more here.

Egypt and Israel Ink Historic Trade Deal
|

Not that most media outlets would acknowledge it, but Israel’s Arab neighbors are more interested in good relations with the Jewish state than with the Palestinians. The Arab League has called for Hamas to surrender and disarm, Lebanon is disarming Hezbollah, and Egypt just inked a $35 billion deal for Israeli natural gas. Times of Israel: Partners in Israel’s Leviathan reservoir on Thursday inked a $35 billion deal to supply natural gas to Egypt, in the largest export deal in the country’s history. Israel’s NewMed Energy, formerly Delek Drilling (part of Yitzhak Tshuva’s Delek Group), which owns a 45.3 percent stake in Leviathan, off the country’s Mediterranean coast, said the partners will sell a total of 130 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas to Egypt through 2040, or until all of the contract quantities are fulfilled. The deal is expected to funnel hundreds of millions of shekels in revenues from gas royalties and taxes to the country’s state coffers. “This is the most strategically important export deal to ever occur in the eastern Mediterranean, and strengthens Egypt’s position as the most significant hub in the region,” said NewMed CEO Yossi Abu. “This deal, made possible by our strong regional partnerships, will unlock further regional export opportunities, once again proving that natural gas and the wider energy industry can be an anchor for collaboration.” (Times of Israel)
How ironic is it that Egypt refers to Israel as a “strong regional partner” while the UK, France, and Canada are throwing Israel under the bus? Strange times.

Pam Bondi Offers $50 Million Payout For Capture Of Socialist Dictator
|
|
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said Thursday that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and State Department are offering a $50 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuela’s socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro.
The hunt for information on Maduro began during President Donald Trump’s first administration in 2020 when his DOJ announced their reward for information on Maduro. In a video press statement posted to Bondi’s X account, the attorney general announced the “historic” reward, which has risen from its original $15 million in 2020.
“Maduro uses foreign terrorist organizations like TDA, Sinaloa, and Cartel of the Sons to bring deadly drugs and violence into our country. To date, the DEA has seized 30 tons of cocaine linked to Maduro and his associates with nearly seven tons linked to Maduro himself, which represents a primary source of income for the deadly cartels based in Venezuela and Mexico,” Bondi said.
“He is one of the largest narco-traffickers in the world and a threat to our national security. Therefore, we’ve doubled his reward to $50 million,” Bondi added. “Under President Trump’s leadership, Maduro will not escape justice, and he will be held accountable for his despicable crimes.” (Daily Caller) Read more here.

White House celebrates Trump-led peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan
|
|
The White House celebrated a peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan on Friday, bringing the two countries' leaders to Washington for a summit led by President Donald Trump.
"I look forward to hosting the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, at the White House for a Historic Peace Summit," Trump posted on Truth Social. "These two Nations have been at War for many years, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people."
Trump will meet with the leaders of both nations, which are located in the South Caucasus region at the border between eastern Europe and western Asia, this afternoon at the White House to sign a peace agreement.
"Many Leaders have tried to end the War, with no success, until now, thanks to 'TRUMP,'" the president boasted on his social media site. "My Administration has been engaged with both sides for quite some time."
As with other Trump deals, the agreement has a trade element, and he says it will benefit the people of both nations and the United States.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have been in conflict for decades, and Trump hopes to end it through increased economic cooperation, both with each other and with the West. Transportation corridors through both countries have been closed due to the conflict since the 1990s, and reopening them could provide better opportunities to circumvent trading with Russia and Iran, Trump administration officials told reporters on a Friday morning call. Leading off, I need to ask…what about the humanitarian crisis nobody talks about? That is, the humanitarian crisis facing the Israelis.
Over and over, during Bill Hemmer’s interview with Benjamin Netanyahu, for Fox News, I kept hearing about the crisis, but only in terms of Gaza’s civilians.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday reiterated that Israel has no intention of occupying the Gaza Strip, saying the expansion of the war is aimed at destroying Hamas and freeing the local population from its regime of terror. “We are not going to occupy Gaza—we are going to free Gaza from Hamas,” said Netanyahu. “Gaza will be demilitarized, and a peaceful civilian administration will be established, one that is not the Palestinian Authority, not Hamas, and not any other terrorist organization,” he continued. “This will help free our hostages and ensure Gaza does not pose a threat to Israel in the future.”
The Israeli Security Cabinet overnight Thursday decided by a “decisive majority” to approve Netanyahu’s plan to defeat Hamas, including controlling Gaza City. (Read more)

3. Starmer condemns Israel's plan to take over Gaza City - BBC
Israel's plans to take over Gaza City are "wrong" and "will only bring more bloodshed", Sir Keir Starmer has said.
The prime minister urged the Israeli government to immediately reconsider its decision "to further escalate its offensive in Gaza", after Benjamin Netanyahu's security cabinet approved the plans overnight by a majority vote.
Netanyahu had earlier said he wanted to take control of the whole of the Gaza strip but the approved plan focuses specifically on Gaza City, the largest city in the enclave. The move has also prompted warnings from the army leadership and family members of hostages held in Gaza, who fear the offensive would endanger the 20 captives believed to still be alive. (Read more)

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's Religious Zionist Party (RZP) will move toward dissolving the government and going to elections if the Gaza occupation plan, decided in a security cabinet meeting on Thursday, is not changed, a senior figure in RZP told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.
When asked about what red lines would need to be crossed to make the move to dissolve the government, the source stated that the party “does not want to define concrete red lines at this moment,” but underscored that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “understands the significance.”
“The decision of the cabinet was, from the party's perspective, a severe blow to the government and a retreat from the determination to truly achieve victory and the defeat of Hamas,” the RZP source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Post. (Read more)

5. Turkey Says Muslim Countries Must Be United Against Israel’s Gaza Takeover Plan - Algemeiner
Muslim nations must act in unison and rally international opposition against Israel’s plan to take control of Gaza City, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Saturday after talks in Egypt.
Regional powers Egypt and Turkey both condemned the plan on Friday. Ankara has said it marked a new phase in what it called Israel’s genocidal and expansionist policies, while calling for global measures to stop the plan’s implementation.
Israel rejects such description of its actions in Gaza.
Speaking at a joint press conference in El Alamein with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty, after also meeting Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Fidan said the Organization of Islamic Cooperation had been called to an emergency meeting. (Read more)

1. Trump Moves To Keep Leftists From Pilfering Tax Dollars For Radical Agendas – Daily Caller
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday requiring his political appointees to review federal grants in order to prevent the “offensive waste of tax dollars” seen in prior administrations.
The heads of each agency awarding grants will assign Trump’s appointees for annual reviews to ensure that federal grants “demonstrably advance the President’s policy priorities,” the executive order says. The White House listed several left-wing agendas that agencies are required not to “fund, promote, encourage, subsidize, or facilitate,” such as race-preferential programs and illegal immigration.
“Every tax dollar the Government spends should improve American lives or advance American interests. This often does not happen,” the order reads. “Federal grants have funded drag shows in Ecuador, trained doctoral candidates in critical race theory, and developed transgender-sexual-education programs.”
Trump’s Thursday order also highlighted data indicating that the National Science Foundation (NSF) was spending a quarter of its funds on what the White House described as “diversity, equity, and inclusion and other far-left initiatives” by 2024. (Read more)

2. EPA Terminates $7 Billion Grant Program for Solar Projects- The Epoch Times
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said on Aug. 7 it was terminating a $7 billion grant program designed to provide solar energy grants to over 900,000 low-income households.
The Solar for All program, established by the Biden administration through the Inflation Reduction Act, awarded grants in April 2024 to 60 recipients—including states, territories, tribes, and nonprofits—to expand solar energy access to low-income and disadvantaged communities, reduce energy costs, and address climate concerns.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in a social media video that “very little money has actually been spent,” noting that grant recipients are still in the early planning phase and have not yet begun construction.
“In some cases, your tax dollars were diluted through up to FOUR pass-through entities, each taking their own cut off the top!” the EPA chief stated on X. “The bottom line is this: EPA no longer has the statutory authority to administer the program or the appropriated funds to keep this boondoggle alive.”
Zeldin noted that the program was being eliminated under the One Big Beautiful Act that President Donald Trump signed into law last month, which also eliminated the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. (Read more)

3. Trump Orders ‘New And Highly Accurate’ Census Not Counting Illegal Migrants - Daily Caller
President Donald Trump revealed on Thursday that he has ordered his administration to create a new census, in which illegal migrants will not be counted.
The president — who has made immigration enforcement a top policy priority — ordered the Commerce Department to begin efforts on a new census based on figures that exclude the illegal migrant population and information gleaned from the 2024 presidential election. While estimates vary, some experts believe more than 18 million illegal migrants currently live in the U.S.
“I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024,” Trump posted Thursday morning on his Truth Social account.
“People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” the president continued with his announcement. (Read more)

4. Republican AGs Turn Up The Heat On British Climate Group Targeting Oil And Gas Industries – Daily Wire
Republican attorneys general are putting the pressure on a British climate activist group targeting the oil and gas industry and pushing an “unachievable climate agenda” that could jeopardize American energy independence and food supply.
Over a dozen Republican AGs, led by Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, demanded Friday that the United Kingdom-based climate group Science Based Targets Initiative fork over documents on its work with companies to promote net zero emissions goals. The officials said that the group’s net zero commitments could run afoul of federal antitrust laws and state consumer protection laws.
“Net zero programs are unrealistic and harm both American agriculture and industry. Making net zero a goal actively harms Americans, creates risk for energy independence, and increases the cost of food,” the officials wrote in a letter exclusively shared with The Daily Wire. “Some economic arrangements are illegal because they are unfair or unreasonably harmful to competition; the ‘good intentions’ behind them are irrelevant.”
Science Based Targets Initiative “assesses and validates companies’ and financial institutions’ targets” through its subsidiary SBTi services and “develops standards, tools and guidance to enable companies and financial institutions to set science-based targets in line with the latest climate science,” according to the group’s website. 5. Islamic State Beheads Christians, Burns Churches in Mozambique Rampage - Breitbart
The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) warned this week of a “silent genocide” in Mozambique, where Islamic State jihadis are destroying churches, burning down villages, and beheading Christians – and then posting triumphant photos and videos of their atrocities online.
MEMRI has long specialized in posting and translating videos from the Middle East that have been ignored or suppressed by local and international media outlets. The Washington, DC-based Institute’s work frequently demonstrates that what Arab leaders say to domestic audiences is very different from what they tell foreign reporters.
In this case, ISIS terrorists in Mozambique have been giddily posting evidence of their attacks on Christians, but it took MEMRI to pull the gruesome social media posts together into a narrative about ethnic and religious cleansing.
It is no secret that Mozambique has a serious problem with jihadis. The United Nations sounded alarms last August that ISIS was gaining strength in Mozambique and was close to gaining “effective control” over a large swath of territory in West Africa and the Sahel.
“The African continent now accounts for almost half of terrorist acts worldwide, with central Sahel accounting for about 25% of such attacks,” U.N. counter-terrorism committee director Natalia Gherman warned the Security Council, almost exactly one year ago today.
Much of the terrorist violence was focused upon Cabo Delgado, a coastal province that came under sustained attack from insurgents in early 2021. (Read more)

6. Appeals court scraps Boasberg’s contempt order against Trump officials- The Hill
A federal appeals court panel voted 2-1 Friday to scrap a judge’s probable cause finding to hold Trump administration officials in criminal contempt for disobeying his order to turn around deportation flights ultimately destined for El Salvador.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled the administration was entitled to an intervention because U.S. District Judge James Boasberg’s efforts to punish administration officials raised immediate concerns.
“The order forces a coequal branch to choose between capitulating to an unlawful judicial order and subjecting its officials to a dubious prosecution,” wrote U.S. Circuit Judge Neomi Rao, who was in the majority.
Rao was joined by U.S. Circuit Judge Gregory Katsas, both Trump appointees.
U.S. Circuit Judge Cornelia Pillard, an appointee of former President Obama, dissented. She complimented Boasberg for his “skill and wisdom” handling the case, which has sparked impeachment threats from Trump and a barrage of public criticism from his supporters.
“Even when faced with what reasonably appeared to him to be foot dragging, evasion, and outright disregard for his jurisdiction and his orders, he responded with unfailing composure,” Pillard wrote.
“The majority does an exemplary judge a grave disservice by overstepping its bounds to upend his effort to vindicate the judicial authority that is our shared trust,” she continued.

Trump Orders Federal Law Enforcement to Patrol D.C.: ‘Plagued by Violent Crime for Far Too Long’

President Trump has ordered federal law enforcement officers to patrol the streets of Washington, D.C., for the next seven days to crack down on violent crime.
The federal presence will be led by the U.S. Park Police and will reportedly “include officers and agents from the FBI, DEA, ATF, divisions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other agencies,” per The Hill.
Thursday’s order came after a March executive order establishing the Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force ‘To ensure effective federal participation’ in the enforcement of immigration laws and redirecting resources to apprehend and deport migrants in Washington, as well as monitoring its sanctuary city status to comply with federal immigration laws,” noted the outlet.
The federal presence will be in marked units.

DOJ opens grand jury investigation into Letitia James tied to Trump civil case
|
|
|
The Department of Justice convened a grand jury to investigate New York Attorney General Letitia James, marking an escalation in President Donald Trump's fight with New York's top prosecutor. The investigation is being run out of Albany, New York, and focused on possible deprivation of rights allegations, two well-placed sources familiar with the probe told Fox News Digital.
The investigation is in an early stage, but Fox News Digital has learned that James's office received subpoenas for documents this week, including for information related to her civil fraud lawsuit against Trump.
James, a Democrat who was elected attorney general in 2018, has long been a target of Trump. James successfully brought civil charges against him for business fraud in 2022 and has had an instrumental role in challenging his current administration's executive actions in court. A spokesperson for James suggested the action by the DOJ was a "weaponization" of its prosecutorial power.
"Any weaponization of the justice system should disturb every American," the spokesperson said. "We stand strongly behind our successful litigation against the Trump Organization and the National Rifle Association, and we will continue to stand up for New Yorkers’ rights."
James began investigating the Trump Organization soon after she took office, eventually securing a $454 million judgment against the then-former president and some of Trump's company's executives, including two of his sons.

Ken Paxton Moves to Strip Seats from Absentee Texas Democrats in Historic Lawsuit
|

|
|
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has gone nuclear on Democrats who fled the state.
“I’ve filed a historic lawsuit against Democrat runaways in SCOTX to secure an order declaring their seats vacant,” Paxton wrote on X.
Although the Democrats are a minority in the Texas legislature, their absence prevents the legislature from having a quorum, which means no business gets done in a special session called to pass redistricting legislation that would put Democrats in a deeper hole.
The stunt was done in 2003 and 2021, resulting in a delay in the eventual passage of the legislation Democrats wanted to block.
Paxton said his lawsuit seeks to have a judge declare that “13 Texas House seats have been vacated due to continued unlawful absences by Democrat legislators who failed to meet the return deadline set by Speaker Dustin Burrows,” according to a news release posted on his website.

Trump approves military action against Latin American cartels classified as terrorist organizations

President Donald Trump has secretly authorized military force against Latin American drug cartels designated by the United States as foreign terrorist organizations, according to reports.
The move, reported by the New York Times, would give U.S. forces permission to engage the cartels, which traffic drugs like fentanyl across the US-Mexico border,
"The president is determined to not just dismantle – but completely destroy – [Venezuelan dictator Nicolas] Maduro’s Cartel de Los Soles and obliterate their operations in the Western Hemisphere," a source close to the White House said, the New York Post reported.
The anti-cartel effort is being coordinated among several departments, including the Department of Defense, Justice Department, Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Treasury, the source added.
"President Trump’s top priority is protecting the homeland, which is why he took the bold step to designate several cartels and gangs as foreign terrorist organizations," deputy White House press secretary Anna Kelly said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday said the U.S. military would not be entering Mexican territory following reports that Washington could take action to combat the cartels. (Fox News) Read more.

Gifford Fire Tops 117,000 Acres as Crews Battle Rugged Terrain

Firefighting force swells to almost 4,000 people; blaze threatens 2,922 structures in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties
As the Gifford Fire grew above 117,500 acres Sunday, crews continue to improve and strengthen control and containment lines while working to keep the flames within boundaries in two counties.
The fire started the afternoon of Aug.1 off Highway 166 about 15 miles northeast of Santa Maria, and quickly spread to the north and south in both Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
On Sunday afternoon, containment climbed to 32%, prompting applause from audience members at a community meeting in Santa Margarita.
Firefighters are dealing with hot and dry conditions along with rugged terrain.
Afternoon temperatures will climb into the 90s to 104, while humidity continues to drop. Northwesterly winds could have gusts around 20 mph, which could fuel the flames.
“The Gifford Fire is burning in the rugged Garcia Wilderness and near the southern edge of the Machesna Mountain Wilderness, with movement toward the Huasna Valley and the community of Pozo,” incident commanders said Sunday.
“Steep, inaccessible terrain is challenging direct containment efforts in the wilderness.”
