American missionary pilot released after being abducted in Niger last year
|
|
|
An American missionary pilot has reportedly been released from captivity after being abducted last October in Niger. Two U.S. officials told The New York Times on Thursday that Kevin Rideout, who serves with the North Carolina-based Evangelical organization Serving In Mission, was in U.S. custody and en route to the United States.
For months, public information about Rideout's status and whereabouts was scarce, with many Christians and church groups praying for his safety at the urging of influential Evangelical figures like Franklin Graham. The details of his rescue location and those responsible for holding him remain unclear.
Rideout served for years flying mission personnel and equipment across West Africa. He also helped to facilitate the work of several organizations, according to a 2014 report from The Wellesley Townsman. He was reportedly kidnapped by three men near the grand Bravia Hotel, in the city center, just a few hundred meters from the presidential palace. The country has been in political turmoil since a coup d'etat in July 2023. Officials cited by The New York Times say that Rideout is now in FBI custody and appears to be in good health. Democratic governor credits Trump for delivering project for Michigan

Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Thursday that President Donald Trump has helped her deliver for the state, pointing to a specific fighter jet mission she tried to secure during the Biden administration but couldn't.
Whitmer spoke to Newsom on his podcast, "This is Gavin Newsom," and said she needed to figure out how to conduct herself after the 2024 presidential election because her state had voted for Trump again.
Newsom noted Whitmer had visited the White House, and the pair both agreed a working relationship with the president was "part of the job."
"I've gotten some really good stuff done. Honestly," she told Newsom. "I got a fighter mission at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, and I tried to get that done under the Biden administration, couldn't get over the finish line, but I got it done with him. Poland arrests Russian allegedly hired to kill Ukrainian-American
who was 'inconvenient to the Putin regime'

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk revealed Thursday that his country arrested a Russian man hired by Moscow to kill a Ukrainian-American citizen who was "inconvenient to the Putin regime."
Tusk said the suspect was taken into custody Friday, with the alleged target being a man in Poland’s capital of Warsaw, according to a report from Reuters.
"Thanks to the truly brilliant action of our services ... we detained a Russian citizen recruited by Russian intelligence services," Tusk was quoted saying, adding that the target held both Ukrainian and U.S. passports. "At the last minute, thanks to the action of the Internal Security Agency and the police, we managed to prevent this execution, this attack." (Fox News) Read more here.

Mangione Pleads Guilty to Federal Stalking Charges
in UnitedHealthcare CEO Killing
|
|
Luigi Mangione, the man accused of gunning down a healthcare executive on a New York street, pleaded guilty to two federal stalking charges, admitting to trailing the executive and shooting him on a Manhattan street in 2024.
Mangione appeared before U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett in Manhattan federal court on Aug. 14, as part of a deal that would avoid a trial in connection with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Mangione, 28, said he shot Thompson, 50, as he walked toward a Manhattan hotel where UnitedHealth Group was hosting an event on Dec. 4, 2024.
U.S. Attorney Jamie McDonald responded to the plea, saying that Mangione “stands convicted in federal court and faces life in prison.”
“While the defendant pleaded guilty, our office does not have a plea agreement with him. Instead, he pleaded open, which means he pleaded guilty to all pending counts in the indictment,” he said.

Lord God of Justice, this action may cause the state charges, one of which is murder, to be dismissed. We pray for true justice in this case, that Mangione be held accountable for his actions. Pleading guilty to the Federal staking charges may not indicate repentance, so we pray that Your Holy Spirit will bring real truth to the situation.

Trump Picks Dallas For Historic First-Ever Midterm GOP Convention
|

|
President Donald Trump has officially unveiled the location for what he says will be a first in Republican Party history: a national convention held during a midterm election year.
In a Truth Social post Tuesday, Trump announced that Republicans will gather in Dallas on Sept. 9-10 for what he called the GOP’s first-ever Midterm Convention, an event designed to rally supporters and build momentum heading into the high-stakes November elections.
“BIG NEWS! For the first time ever, the Republican Party will hold a MIDTERM CONVENTION,” Trump wrote. Calling it a “truly Historic Event,” the president said the gathering will celebrate what he described as the nation’s “Great American Comeback” and the accomplishments of his America First agenda.
Trump said the convention will bring together “hardworking Americans, our Great Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Manufacturers, First Responders, and Job Creators,” while also featuring entertainment and “a RALLY like none other.”
The announcement confirms plans Trump first floated last year and follows changes approved earlier this year by the Republican National Committee allowing the party to hold a national convention outside the traditional four-year presidential cycle.
The unprecedented event comes as Republicans prepare to defend narrow House and Senate majorities in November. Historically, the party occupying the White House loses congressional seats during midterm elections, making turnout a top priority for GOP strategists.

Jeffries: Democratic Socialists of America Will Be Part of Our ‘Broad Caucus’

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said if elected, some Democratic Socialists of America members will be part of the Democrats’ “broad caucus.”
Host Kristen Welker said, “Do Democratic Socialists belong in the Democratic Party?”
Jeffries said, “Well, what I can say is that I do not support defunding the police. I do not support open borders. I do not support abolishing the Senate. We’re focused on actually solving problems that hardworking American taxpayers want us to solve, which is to lower the high cost of living in a situation where life is far too expensive in this country. That’s the democratic agenda. That’s what House Democrats are fighting to achieve.”
Welker said, “Do you think, though, that there is room in the Democratic Party, under the tent of the Democratic Party, for Democratic Socialists, is it big enough?”
Jeffries said, “Well, listen, I don’t support the DSA agenda, as has been articulated, by the DSA itself. Now you’re going to have individual members, who have been elected in Democratic primaries and if they are elected in the general in November, will be part of the House Democratic caucus. 1. Meeting with Kushner, PM doubles down on IDF remaining in Gaza until Hamas disarmed - Times of Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted during a meeting Monday with envoys from the White House and the US-backed Board of Peace that Israel would not redeploy any of its forces in Gaza or allow reconstruction to begin until the Strip was completely disarmed, a senior Israeli official told The Times of Israel.
“The agreement was that there would be no redeployment or reconstruction until Hamas is disarmed throughout Gaza,” the official said of the premier’s four-hour meeting with Trump aide Jared Kushner and Board of Peace officials Nickolay Mladenov and Tony Blair.
According to a CNN report, citing an Israeli source familiar with the discussions, Kushner pressed Netanyahu during the lengthy meeting to “not create obstacles” to the implementation of the Board’s 15-point plan for disarming Hamas and moving toward the second and reconstruction-focused phase of Trump’s Gaza peace plan. 2. Katz: IDF has 2 weeks to draft plan to hand West Bank civilian enforcement to police - Times of Israel
Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Monday that he had instructed the Israel Defense Forces to submit within two weeks a plan to “transfer responsibility for civilian enforcement in the West Bank to the Israel Police,” a move widely seen as impractical in the lead-up to a national election.
According to statement from Katz’s office, during a meeting with top military and defense officials Sunday night, he said he “expressed an unequivocal position against violence and the taking of the law into their own hands by unauthorized parties,” apparently alluding to recent attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians.
He also “stressed the need for enforcement in all civilian aspects in the West Bank to be handled by the Israel Police through effective and efficient inter-organizational cooperation,” the statement said. (Read more)

3. Israel reportedly preparing major operation in Lebanon - Israel Hayom
Amid escalating tensions on the Lebanese front, a source described as familiar with the details told Lebanese channel Al-Jadeed on Monday morning that "all indications point to Israeli preparations to take full control of the Ali al-Taher ridge. That explains the intensity of the strikes in the ridge area and deeper inside it, including yesterday, as well as the artillery fire, airstrikes and the dropping of explosive charges by drones."
"The Israeli message is clear: Any further intervention by Hezbollah will be met by crossing all red lines," the source said. "It appears that the timing of the operation depends on the US."
The Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon separates the Litani River from the Nabatieh area. Beaufort Castle, which was captured by Israel Defense Forces troops, stands at the summit of the ridge, which overlooks the northern Israeli town of Metula. (Read more)

4. 2 children stabbed in Beit Shemesh, 1 killed - Israel National News
Two children were stabbed and one was murdered this afternoon (Monday) in Beit Shemesh.
The children who were stabbed are six and seven years old. One of the children was critically injured in the stabbing while the other is in serious condition. They were evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, where the critically injured child died from his injuries. The murdered childhas been identified as seven-year-old Hillel Mordechai Dadon.
The incident is believed to be criminal in nature.
Medical personnel were called to the scene of the stabbing and began treating the children. (Read more)

5. Israeli i24News Team Attacked in Ireland While Filming Docuseries on Antisemitism - Algemeiner
A film crew from i24News’ Hebrew channel was assaulted over the weekend in Northern Ireland while filming a documentary series about antisemitism in Europe.
Reporter Yonatan Raveh and cameraman Nadav Abbas were interviewing people on the street in a popular bar area in Belfast when a local man realized they were from Israel and confronted the crew, according to i24News, which also shared a video of the incident on X.
The Irish man confronted the Israeli television crew and tried to grab their expensive camera equipment. When he failed, “he began actively disrupting the recording process and made obscene gestures toward the camera, which led to the filming being stopped,” i24 said. “The Israeli team tried to calm the situation and withdraw from the scene, but the suspect continued to follow them in a threatening manner, at which point the i24NEWS team turned to nearby security personnel and asked for help calling the police.”

1. National security advisor central to Iran negotiations to leave White House - Washington Examiner
Baker is set to part ways with President Donald Trump in the coming weeks, Axios reported on Friday, marking the second high-profile departure from the White House this week. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Wednesday that she would be stepping down from her role to spend more time with her family.
According to Axios, Baker will be departing for similar reasons, citing his desire to be closer to his family after staying in the role longer than expected. Baker previously served as national security advisor to Vice President JD Vance, and reportedly stayed in the role for additional time to ensure a smooth transition to successors.
White House officials praised Baker as a valuable asset to the administration, with Vance calling him a “exceptionally gifted, deeply thoughtful advisor.”
Baker was a member of Washington’s negotiation team in a series of peace talks with Iran. The national security advisor joined Vance, as well as special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff in April on a trip to Islamabad for discussions with Tehran.
Those peace talks produced a 60-day ceasefire that included a highly contested memorandum of understanding. The framework ultimately crumbled with the U.S. and Iran blaming each other for violating the terms of agreement.

2. Trump allows Navy to build ships abroad, orders return to steam catapults on carriers - Reuters
U.S. President Donald Trump has allowed the Navy to build ships overseas and ordered it to abandon a complex system for launching jet fighters from its aircraft carriers and instead return to using steam catapults, the White House said on Thursday.
Trump signed a national security memorandum directing the change, which would require the fourth vessel in the Gerald R. Ford class of aircraft carriers to abandon the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) used on the first three vessels. The design change is expected to cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.
Huntington Ingallsis the primary contractor building Ford-class aircraft carriers. Huntington's shares were up slightly in after-hours trading in New York.
As of March 2026, the USS Gerald R. Ford, the lead ship in the new class of carriers, had completed 36,863 EMALS launches, according to Pentagon documents. (Read more here)

3. Vance: Preventing nuclear Iran is the ‘number two’ US goal, after ensuring cheap oil - Times of Israel
US Vice President JD Vance said Thursday that preventing a nuclear Iran was Washington’s second priority, with the first being to “keep oil and gasoline cheap for Americans.”
“That’s goal number one,” Vance told told Fox News. “And then, obviously, goal number two is ensure that Iran never gets a nuclear weapon.”
“I feel confident we’re accomplishing both of those goals, but it’s inherently an unpredictable thing, because the Iranians themselves are unpredictable, and they sometimes don’t honor the commitments they’ve made to us,” he added.
Asked on Fox News what the endgame with Iran looks like, Vance replied: “The thing I can say with confidence is I think this ends with the United States in a stronger position, with Iran not having a nuclear weapon, and with the Strait of Hormuz returned to a place where oil and gas prices are stable for the American people.”
“Sometimes we’re focused on the energy piece of it because we want Americans to be able to afford the price of oil and gas. Sometimes we’re obviously focused on the military nature of it. Sometimes we’re focused on the nuclear program,” said Vance. (Read more)

4. Two slicks appear in Gulf as huge oil spill off Oman threatens disaster - Jerusalem Post
Two slicks have appeared in Iranian waters, satellite imagery and video verified by Reuters show, as tit-for-tat attacks on oil tankers and other vessels by Iran and the United States spark concerns about environmental damage to the Gulf.
A potential environmental disaster is already unfolding off Oman outside of the Strait of Hormuz, where a grounded tanker, the Caroline Bezengi, is leaking Russian crude oil in a protected marine area and has created a massive slick, some estimates put at 2,000 square km.
The Caroline Bezengi incident has not been linked to the war with Iran. The two latest slicks are inside the Gulf.
"This is the biggest one that I've seen in recent months, really since the conflict between Iran and the U.S. began," said John Amos, CEO of SkyTruth, which uses satellite imagery to detect oil spills, calling it "a major incident".
Satellite imagery showed a second slick near the smaller Sirri Island in the center of the Gulf, about 100 km southwest of Qeshm and home to some Iranian offshore oil and gas production.
The satellite imagery of Qeshm Island was taken on August 10 and that of Sirri Island on August 13. (Read more)

5. State Department abolishes ‘ideologically extreme and discriminatory’ DEI policies in Foreign Service - Washington Examiner
The State Department announced Thursday that it will be overhauling policies in the diplomatic personnel system, ending a slew of protocols previously established to further diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
“The DEI agenda was embedded in the institutional culture of the Foreign Service during the previous administration. DEI objectives and materials shamefully denigrated the United States, derided Americans of certain backgrounds, and distracted from legitimate foreign policy objectives that serve the American people,” the department said in a statement.
The department published a list of policies and workplace practices that exemplify the culture being gutted from the Foreign Service. The report alleges that Foreign Service instructors were required to read critical race theory texts including White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo and In Defense of Looting by left-wing “agitator” Vicky Osterweil.
Foreign Service instructors were also allegedly provided with a “DEI toolkit” for discussing “white privilege” and “systemic racism” in foreign languages like Urdu and Hebrew, as well as an “Inclusivity Guide” for integrating practices like “non-binary pronouns” into course materials.
“America’s diplomats are the nation’s first line of defense against hostile powers, terrorists, deadly narcotics smuggling, illegal immigration, and other threats to the safety, security, and prosperity of the American people,” the department said, adding that it is “implementing modernization reforms to the Foreign Service and invites all Americans with the skill and spirit to represent our nation around the world to apply to join the U.S. Foreign Service.”

6. Netanyahu calls UK an ‘Islamic republic,’ jokes it would be first one with nukes - Times of Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Britain an “Islamic republic” in an interview with an Army Radio podcast released Thursday.
Netanyahu, who has long touted his admiration for Winston Churchill, noted in the podcast that the son and grandson of the World War II-era British leader were journalists who produced pro-Israel reportage on the June 1967 Six Day War.
“They came here and covered the Six Day War in a way that was very positive for us,” Netanyahu said on the bereavement-themed “Melech B’leyatzer Chayim” (King at Creating Life) podcast. “Try finding that in Britain today. What’s called ‘the Islamic Republic of Britain’.”
Haaretz reported that the podcast was filmed at the Petah Tikva studio of NVP, a production company contracted by Netanyahu’s Likud ahead of Israel’s October 27 election. (Read more)

“Shoftim,” Judges, Deuteronomy 16:18–21:9, begins with Moses commanding Israel to appoint judges and officers in every city of the Promised Land to decide civil, domestic and religious controversies. Their standard was uncompromising: tzedek, tzedek tirdof, “justice, justice shall you pursue” (Deuteronomy 16:20). Justice required righteousness and impartiality. This reflected Jethro’s advice (Exodus 18:19-20) to Moses to establish a hierarchy of judges over the people. Convictions required two or three witnesses, while difficult cases went before a higher court. Moses also foresaw Israel’s future desire for a king chosen by the LORD, Torah obedient, who would personally copy a Torah scroll and keep it throughout his reign.
Shoftim continues with prohibitions against idolatry and blemished sacrifices, laws concerning property boundaries and truthful testimony, cities of refuge, regulations governing warfare, and atonement for unsolved murders so guilt would be removed from the land. Moses also spoke of a prophet like himself who would come, a prophecy pointing toward Messiah. Running through these instructions is a common thread: God established boundaries to protect His people from injustice, corruption and sin. Judges sat at the gates of ancient cities because the gate was where disputes were settled and harmful influences confronted. “Judges and officers you shall appoint in all your gates” (Deuteronomy 16:18). The gate became both a physical place of judgment and a powerful picture of personal responsibility. Read More

Six people are dead and many more are missing as torrential rain spawned destructive high water across Indiana in what authorities are calling “once-in-a-lifetime floods.”
Entire towns were inundated with murky water as rising rivers exceeded their banks, with some residents taking to kayaks and small boats to save fellow residents or to escape, according to news outlets.
The White River, a 362-mile waterway in central and southern Indiana, which also runs directly through Indianapolis, just kept rising Saturday in the wake of heavy rains.
A number of rivers reached record levels, the Daily Mail reported, as more than a dozen counties declared local disasters. Much of the latest damage was along the river from Hamilton County heading into northern Indianapolis suburbs.
“The most severe flooding has occurred along the White River corridor, particularly in and around Indianapolis, Noblesville, Anderson, Ravenswood and Nora,” Newsweek reported.
President Donald Trump acted quickly on news of the deluge, approving an emergency declaration for the state, making federal disaster assistance available to residents and municipalities. (Breitbart) Read more here.

We pray for the people of Indiana as they recover from this once in a lifetime flood that has left 6 dead and many missing. Our hearts are grieving with the families who have lost loved ones and homes as they try and piece their lives back together. Lord Jehovah, we trust You to provide for their every need. Father, grant to them the emergency assistance that they need for their families quickly.
We thank You, too, that President Trump has declared this event to be an emergency so quickly, to that funds and resources
can now be released to those in need.
Lord, we pray that You would turn this disaster into a testimony of the miracles that have come forth from Your hand in the flood waters.We humbly offer this prayer to You, Lord. Amen and Amen.

Hurricane Lala leaves thousands without power in Hawaii amid 'life-threatening' conditions

Hurricane Lala approached Hawaii with strong winds and heavy rain on Saturday, leaving more than 40,000 utility customers without power across the state as the National Hurricane Center warned of "life-threatening" conditions.
The poweroutage.com website showed 42,889 customers without power as of 2:14 p.m. HST (0014 GMT on Sunday) in Hawaii, including 31,792 on the Big Island and 7,203 in Maui County, which includes the islands of Maui, Lanai and Molokai.

An advisory from the hurricane center at 2 p.m. HST predicted 10 to 20 inches (25.4 to 51 cm) of rain on the Big Island, and possibly up to 25 inches there, as well as 8 to 12 inches in eastern Maui and 4 to 6 inches in western Maui.
"This rainfall will produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides, especially in areas of steep terrain," the center said. (Reuters) Read more here.

We pray for the people of Hawaii as they recover from Hurricane Lala that created strong winds and heavy rains creating flooding and downed trees in the big islands of Hawaii, Maui, Lanai and Molokai. Lord, we pray for protection over the Hawaiian Electric Company and their linemen as they work to bring electricity back to the thousands of customers who have experienced power outages.
Lord, You are faithful in times of need and Your mercy is never ending! In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen and Amen.

The Future Of The Temple Mount: The Most Explosive Flashpoint In The Middle East

The 37-acre Temple Mount in Jerusalem is ground zero for the events of the end times, and it's back in the headlines as the most explosive flashpoint in the Middle East--and probably the whole world.
The Temple Mount is the previous location of two Jewish temples. Solomon's Temple was built there 3,000 years ago until 586 BC, when it was destroyed by the Babylonians. When the Jewish people returned from exile, they built a second temple, which the Romans destroyed in AD 70.
It is considered the third holiest site in Islam--even though Jerusalem is not mentioned specifically in the Quran. The Dome of the Rock is a Muslim shrine that marks the site from which Muhammad supposedly ascended to heaven. In addition, the Al-Aqsa Mosque sits at the southern end of the Temple Mount.
In recent days, there have been "dust-ups" at the Temple Mount that have threatened to escalate into a wider conflict.
Newsweek published a fascinating headline reading, "The Middle East's Most Dangerous Chokepoint Has No Oil."

"The world now understands why the Strait of Hormuz is so powerful: whoever controls passage can disrupt economies and compel governments far beyond the waterway."
