New MAHA Platform Tracks Health Wins Nationwide
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced MAHA in Action this week, an initiative sharing health-related victories across the country. “Make America Healthy Again isn’t just a slogan—it’s a mission statement, and we’re delivering results, fast,” Kennedy said. “The MAHA in Action tracker puts the wins on the map. It gives the public, the press, and policymakers real-time visibility into how we’re restoring health, integrity, and accountability to every corner of our public health agency. Americans are tired of toxic food, failed science, and chronic disease becoming the norm,” he added. “We’re turning the tide through bold federal action at HHS and state-driven reforms. The momentum is real, and we’re just getting started.”

The website details federal reforms within HHS, such as the removal of petroleum-based food dyes and additives, shifts within vaccine safety, and findings related to chronic disease. The site also includes an interactive map listing state-level policies supporting MAHA, such as states that have banned synthetic dyes, policies restricting products available through SNAP waivers, laws calling for warning labels on certain ingredients, and states that limit cell phone use in schools. The MAHA in Action platform declares that “HHS is advancing President Trump and Secretary Kennedy’s Make America Healthy Again agenda” through what it describes as “bold actions,” listing the MAHA report, food dye removals, reviewing infant formula, investigating autism, and other efforts. - Father, we are so grateful for diligent efforts to 'Make America Healthy Again' through removal of toxins found within our foods! Bless President  Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr., for proactive solutions against chronic adult and childhood illnesses. We praise You Father, in this new day of researching truth behind vaccines, investigating the explosion of autism in children and especially scrutinizing petroleum based dyes and additives in our foods. We declare in Jesus' Name a RESTORATION of HEALTH across the nation, through exposure of manipulated 'science' and bold reforms made by our public health agency, protecting Americans citizens and all future generations! In Yeshua's mighty Name we pray- Amen and Amen.

Trump rips trial judge whose $500M penalty was erased on appeal

Fresh off a major appellate win, President Donald Trump on Sunday tore into New York Judge Arthur Engoron, who oversaw his state civil fraud trial, calling him "incompetent," "crooked" and nearly as "corrupt" as New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Trump's barbs followed an appellate ruling that erased a $500 million penalty in James’ high-profile civil fraud case, handing Trump one of his biggest legal wins yet.

"The Appellate Court removed incompetent Judge Engoron, but he refused to go, or even to acknowledge them," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "He’s a highly overturned, CROOKED Judge, who is retiring into a life of lawsuits, along with his Chief Clerk, soon! He is almost as Corrupt as Leticia James, but not quite!"

Engoron presided over the non-jury trial, and Trump allies accused him of bias against the president-elect, his family and his company. Trump was accused of inflating the value of his assets to get more favorable terms from a lender his real estate business worked with.

The New York Appellate Division tossed the penalty, ruling the fine was excessive and violated the Eighth Amendment.

The five-member panel upheld findings that Trump and his company were liable, affirming James acted within her authority and that injunctive relief against the Trump Organization was appropriate.

The ruling left liability intact but wiped out the $364 million penalty plus interest, which totaled about $500 million. (Fox News) Read more here.

- Heavenly Father, we praise and thank you for this legal victory our president was given! Thank you, Lord, for his protection and guidance throughout this whole process. We continue to pray for our judicial system that it would be restored to rightfully judge and make righteous decisions, in Jesus' name. Amen.

- “Now this I know: The LORD gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand.” (Psalm 20:6)

Scoop: 'Make America Fentanyl Free' campaign launches to help Trump lower overdose deaths

A new campaign launched on Monday to help fulfill President Donald Trump's pledge to reduce fentanyl overdose deaths, which are one of the nation's deadliest public health crises.

The campaign, titled Make America Fentanyl Free, is described as a privately-funded multi-million-dollar ad blitz on national and local television, and across all major social media platforms, including X, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Facebook.

The effort, which was first shared with Fox News Digital on Monday, aims to reduce the number of Americans killed by fentanyl, a highly potent and extremely dangerous synthetic opioid. Fentanyl and fentanyl-related drugs have been responsible for most drug overdose deaths in the U.S. for nearly a decade.

"The Make America Fentanyl Free ad campaign was launched to support President Trump’s efforts to save American lives from deadly fentanyl, which continues to be a leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 18 and 45," organizers said in a statement.

Organizers emphasized that the mission of the campaign, which is also online at MakeAmericaFentanylFree.com, is to inform Americans about the devastating effects of fentanyl, and pointed out that "ingesting as little as three grains of fentanyl can be lethal within minutes."

The campaign is also intended to educate the public about the hidden dangers of fentanyl, which is frequently disguised in other substances, such as cocaine and marijuana. "Make America Fentanyl Free is working with President Trump to aggressively make sure every American understands the danger of fentanyl," the narrator in the ad says. UFO mania grips small town after mysterious glowing object sighting goes viral

It started like something out of a sci-fi thriller: a glowing, pill-shaped object hovering over the skies of upstate New York. Photos captured near the Finger Lakes on Aug. 12 showed a slow-moving orb shrouded in a glowing mist, sparking a surge of UFO speculation in a community’s Facebook group.

Some residents described it as "otherworldly," as others commented, asking what it was. "They're here," one person joked. "Truly an amazing thing to witness!" another said.

But what many believed could be an alien visitation turned out to be something less supernatural: a rocket launch

According to Space.com, the mysterious orb was later confirmed to be the planned launch of the Vulcan Centaur by the United Launch Alliance from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The Pentagon did not respond to a request for comment.

"My first instinct from my scientific and military training is to look for a conventional explanation, such as a meteorological or human-made aerospace explanation, because that's what many objects in the sky are," retired Rear Adm. Tim Gallaudet, Ph.D., U.S. Navy, told Fox News Digital. "In this case, it was both."

He emphasized the critical nature of data verification when distinguishing between civilian misidentifications and genuinely Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).

"The primary protocols are to cross-check the visual sighting with other data: higher-resolution optical or infrared, radar, lidar, listen for a radio or acoustic signature, and if it looks to be under intelligent control, interrogate it via VHF radio. That will allow for a better characterization of the object, e.g. size, speed, altitude, range, material composition, and intentions." (Fox News) Read more here.

- Lord God, your Word says that a deception is coming that if the very elect could be deceived they might. We do not want to be in that group of people that are easily swayed by the plots and plans of the enemy. Help us to hold tightly onto you, your Word, and your truth no matter what mass deception comes our way. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

- “And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many.” (Matthew 24:4-5)
FOCUS ON ISRAEL

1. Israel acknowledges mistaken killing of civilians in hospital airstrike - JNS

Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement expressing its deep regret for the inadvertent killing of civilians in Gaza, including several journalists, at the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis in the southern part of the Strip on Monday.

Reuters reported that at least 20 people were killed, including five journalists who worked for its outlet, the Associated Press and Al Jazeera, among others.

“Israel values the work of journalists, medical staff and all civilians. The military authorities are conducting a thorough investigation,” the PMO said.

“Our war is with Hamas terrorists. Our just goals are defeating Hamas and bringing our hostages home,” it added. (Read more)

2. IDF chief orders immediate inquiry into Nasser Hospital strikes, ‘regrets harm’ to civilians - Times of Israel

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has ordered an immediate inquiry into this morning’s strike against Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, the military says.

The IDF confirms that troops carried out a strike in the area, which, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, killed 20. Four journalists are said to be among the dead.

“The IDF regrets any harm to uninvolved [civilians] and in no way directs strikes at journalists,” the military says, adding that it works to “minimize harm to them while safeguarding the security of our forces.” (Read more)

3. Syria Says Israel Takes Some Territory Around Mount Hermon Despite Talks
- Algemeiner

Syria said on Monday that Israel had sent 60 soldiers to take control of an area inside the Syrian border around Mount Hermon in an operation that violated its sovereignty and posed a further threat to regional security.

An Israeli military spokesperson said troops carried out a routine operational activity in an area of southern Syria but did not operate in Beit Jinn, an area close to the border with Lebanon and near Mount Hermon.

The incident comes as the two countries engage in US-mediated talks on de-escalating their conflict in southern Syria. Damascus hopes to reach a security arrangement that could eventually pave the way for broader political talks.

Monday’s incident took place near a strategic hilltop that overlooks Beit Jinn, the Syrian ministry said. Israel also arrested six Syrians there, according to residents in the area. (Read more)

4. Israel Says It Would Reduce Troops in Lebanon if Beirut Takes Steps to Disarm Hezbollah - Algemeiner

Israel on Monday signaled it would scale back its military presence in southern Lebanon if the Lebanese armed forces took action to disarm Iran-backed Shi’ite terrorist group Hezbollah.

The announcement from the Israeli prime minister’s office came a day after Benjamin Netanyahu met with US envoy Tom Barrack, who has been heavily involved in a plan that would disarm Hezbollah and withdraw Israeli forces from Lebanon.

“If the Lebanese Armed Forces take the necessary steps to implement the disarmament of Hezbollah, Israel will engage in reciprocal measures, including a phased reduction” by the Israeli military, the Israeli prime minister’s office said.

The statement did not explicitly say if Israeli forces would fully withdraw from the five positions they hold in Lebanon. (Read more

5. IDF bombs presidential palace in Yemen after Houthis use cluster warhead in missile attack - World Israel News

Israeli warplanes bombed Houthi positions in Yemen on Sunday, including the Yemeni presidential palace, days after Yemen-based terrorists launched a missile at Israel that utilized a cluster warhead.

The strikes came in response to a missile attack conducted on Friday by the Ansar Allah terrorist group – an Iranian-backed Shi’ite movement in Yemen widely referred to as the Houthis.

On Sunday, Israel confirmed that the missile carried a cluster warhead capable of scattering smaller explosives over a wide area.

The cluster warhead is internationally banned but was used by Iran on Israeli cities during the 12-day war in June.

Friday’s missile attack damaged a private home in the central Israeli town of Ginaton, but caused no injuries. (Read more

1. White House lists 20 objectionable Smithsonian exhibits, artworks - The Hill
  • The White House on Thursday unveiled a list of 20 Smithsonian exhibits the Trump administration alleges are being used to frame historical events through “ideological” narratives instead of factual evidence.

Items categorized as unacceptable include an exhibit at the National Museum of the American Latino that portrays the U.S. as stolen land and characterizes U.S. history as rooted in “colonization.”

The administration also slammed the National Museum of American History for its depiction of Benjamin Franklin, a founding father, as a slave owner and took issue with the stance that his “scientific accomplishments were enabled by the social and economic system he worked within.”

A separate notation critiques an art piece showcasing migrants watching July 4 fireworks “through an opening in the U.S.-Mexico border wall,” which reportedly states that America’s founders “feared non-white immigration.”

Other exhibits highlighted focus on transgender communities. (Read more)

- Lord, we thank You that the Trump administration is calling out the Smithsonian Institute and the ideological narratives that they are depicting. We just pray for the truth of our history to be displayed in these historical institutions.

- "Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being,
and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart."

2.  Trump says federal crime crackdown will target Chicago next - The Hill

President Trump said Friday the federal government would turn its attention to Chicago next to try to crack down on crime after surging law enforcement and deploying the National Guard in Washington, D.C.

“After we do this, we’ll go to another location, and we’ll make it safe also,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

“We’re going to make our cities very, very safe,” Trump added. “Chicago’s a mess. You have an incompetent mayor. Grossly incompetent and we’ll straighten that one out probably next. That will be our next one after this. And it won’t even be tough.”

Trump said there were “African American ladies, beautiful ladies,” urging him to intervene in Chicago, a city that has long struggled with gun violence. He indicated his administration would focus next on Chicago before turning to others, such as New York City. (Read more)

3. Trump administration to review all 55m US visa holders for potential rule violations - The Guardian

The Trump administration is reviewing the records of more than 55 million US visa holders for potential revocation or deportable violations of immigration rules, in a significant expansion of Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

In a move first reported by the Associated Press, the state department said that all of the foreigners who currently hold valid US visas are subject to “continuous vetting” for any indication that they could be ineligible for the document, including those already admitted into the country. Should such evidence come to light, the visa would be revoked and, if the visa holder were in the United States, they would be subject to deportation.

“The State Department revokes visas any time there are indications of a potential ineligibility, which includes things like any indicators of overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, engaging in any form of terrorist activity, or providing support to a terrorist organization,” a department spokesperson said. (Read more)

- We thank you for the diligence of the Trump administration to review these 55 million U.S visa holders. We just pray for careful consideration and wisdom as they are making these decisions.

4.  National Guard in DC to carry M17 pistols, conduct law enforcement duties, task force says- ABC News

National Guard troops deployed on the streets of Washington, D.C., will now carry weapons for personal protection and are allowed to carry out law enforcement duties, defense officials announced Friday.

The decision is an escalation in President Donald Trump's use of military troops to address what he insists is "out of control" crime in the nation's capital. Since his announcement, Trump has mobilized nearly 2,300 National Guard troops from Washington, D.C., and six states with Republican governors. But troops had remained unarmed until now.

ABC News first reported Friday that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had officially authorized the troops to carry weapons if their mission required it. On Friday, the joint task force overseeing the troops confirmed the move, noting that Guard personnel sent on missions would carry M17 pistols, "which are intended for person protection." The task force said Guard members would receive proper training on how to use the weapons before being allowed to carry them.

“This decision is not something taken lightly,” said Army Brig. Gen. Leland D. Blanchard, III, the Commanding General of the D.C. National Guard, in a statement. (Read more)

- We thank You that these National Guard troops are now able to carry these pistols for their personal protection. We continue to pray for our nation's capital to be a place of peace and safety and that crime will be wiped out.

- "In peace I will lie down and sleep,
    for you alone, Lord,
    make me dwell in safety."

5.  US legislative committee says it's investigating antisemitism in leading teacher union - The Times of Israel

The US House Committee on Education and the Workforce is investigating antisemitism in the National Education Association, a leading teacher union, representing more than three million public school educators and administrators.

The committee has put heavy pressure on universities for alleged antisemitism since the start of the war in Gaza.

In a letter to the president of the union, US Rep. Tim Walberg, a Michigan Republican, cites the union’s vote to ban materials by the Anti-Defamation League and alleged antisemitism in the union’s 2025 handbook.

In one example, the union’s handbook says the group will mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day by “recognizing more than 12 million victims of the Holocaust,” without mentioning Jews.

The handbook also says the union plans to educate members about the Nakba, without providing context about the creation of the State of Israel, the letter says. (Read more)

- We pray for this US House committee to find and eradicate all antisemitism in these teacher unions.

- "I will bless those who bless you,
    and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
    will be blessed through you."
(Genesis 12:3)
6.  US accuses UK of 'persecution of silent prayer' in abortion buffer zones - Christian Today

The US State Department has said that buffer zones around abortion clinics represent “persecution” and are “egregious” violations of the freedoms of speech and religion.

The warning follows an intervention from Vice-President JD Vance in February, in which he claimed that people within such zones in Scotland had been sent official letters warning them about praying at home.

The claims were decried as “misinformation” by the member of the Scottish Parliament responsible for the law, Gillian Mackay.

Letters warning residents were indeed sent out, although they did not specifically mention prayer being forbidden. However, Mackay herself conceded in an interview that praying by the window in one's own home could indeed fall foul of the law, depending on who happened to be passing the window at the time.

The US State Department has spoken out in response to cases in the UK in which ordinary members of the public have been arrested for allegedly breaching the rules in abortion buffer zones. (Read more)

- We thank You that the US State Department is calling out this injustice. We pray for the UK government to restore fundamental freedoms, and repeal buffer zone legislation.

"Let the fear of the Lord be upon you. Be careful what you do, for there is no injustice with the Lord our God." (2 Chronicles 19:7)

The Daily Jot

Choose Life With A Joyful Heart

The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, August 25, 2025

In Deuteronomy 11:26–16:17, Moses sets before Israel the choice of blessing or curse. God gives this same charge later in Deuteronomy 30 and again commands—“Choose life!” The Hebrew word Re’eh is in the imperative form, meaning “you see!” The call is personal. Each person is responsible to see clearly and to make faithful choices that align with God’s will. Obedience isn’t just about grand acts of faith. It is often lived out in daily decisions, the little choices that shape our direction. Choosing life is both a responsibility and a blessing, for in following God’s way, we find provision, protection, and purpose. The Lord makes the options plain. The decision, however, rests with us. In all matters of life, our choices matter.

God then moves quickly into instruction: destroy the Canaanite religious centers, avoid idolatry, and offer sacrifices only in the place the Lord chooses. That place, He says, is where He will put His name. Ultimately, this was revealed to be Jerusalem and the Temple, the center of worship for Israel. God warns not to add or subtract from His word, and to be wary of false prophets who seek to lure people away from His truth. He also revisits dietary laws and introduces tithing, the Sabbatical year, and the pilgrimage festivals. These commands were designed not only to ensure worship, but also to sustain community life. In God’s economy, spiritual devotion and practical provision are always connected. Obedience secures both. Read More

Trump Warns He May Send Troops to Baltimore to Fight Crime

President Donald Trump suggested that he’s contemplating sending National Guard troops to the city of Baltimore, Maryland, to fight what he described as a “crime disaster” in the city.

“If [Maryland Gov.] Wes Moore needs help, like [California Gov. Gavin Newsom] did in L.A., I will send in the ’troops,' which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the Crime,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

In that post, Trump replied to comments that Moore made on CNN on Friday, saying the president needed to “walk the streets” of Maryland before making judgments about the situation. Trump criticized Moore’s remarks in his post.

“I assume he is talking about out of control, crime ridden, Baltimore?” Trump wrote. “As President, I would much prefer that he clean up this Crime disaster before I go there for a ‘walk.’”

During a Sunday appearance on “Face the Nation,” Moore was asked about the president’s post in real time. He expressed strong opposition to the idea, saying that “this pace of operations” is not sustainable, citing a cost of roughly a million dollars per day.

Moore also said that such operations are “not scalable” to every major American city, “particularly when many of the cities that have the highest crime rates are the places that have ... deployed their National Guard in DC.”

He said the move would also be unconstitutional, citing the 10th Amendment, which has long been understood to give states control of police powers, including powers related to the health, safety, welfare, and morals of their citizens.

“It’s a direct violation of the 10th Amendment, and for a party that talks about state rights, it’s amazing how we’re having such a Big Government approach in the way they’re conducting public safety,” Moore said. (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

- Father God, there is an old saying that states the "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." In this article, we see two different opinions of the status of crime that now exists in Baltimore, Maryland: that of Maryland Governor Wes Moore and that of President Trump. As Your intercessors, Father God, and as Your watchmen on the wall, we support the opinion of Donald John Trump. We support any action he will
take to "clean up" the streets of Baltimore, asking that all who are in opposition to this move will stand down. Thank You, Abba God, for hearing our prayer, amen and amen!

- "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." (James 5:16)
Vance Says Russia Has Made ‘Significant Concessions’ Toward Ending War With Ukraine

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Aug. 24 that Moscow has made “significant concessions” toward reaching a peace deal to end the more than three-year-long conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

In an interview with NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” the vice president said Russian President Vladimir Putin made multiple concessions toward reaching a deal with Kyiv, including one that allows Ukraine to receive security guarantees to ward off future attacks.

Vance said that the Russians have “recognized that they’re not going to be able to install a puppet regime in Kyiv,” noting it was “a major demand at the beginning. And importantly, they’ve acknowledged that there is going to be some security guarantee to the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” he said. “Have they made every concession? Of course, they haven’t. We’re making progress.”

Vance’s comments were made more than a week after Trump met with Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, to negotiate a deal over ending the war. Late last week, Trump renewed a threat to impose sanctions on Russia if there was no progress toward a peaceful settlement in Ukraine in two weeks. (The Epoch Story) Read more here.

- Father God, once again, trust seems to be a key factor as we read these reports out of Washington, D.C. In this case, we trust the words of our Vice President Vance, as he shares the current status of the ongoing negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. We continue to lend our full support in prayer for the Trump administration, as they continue to navigate the tricky waves of bringing peace to both Ukraine and Russia. We offer this prayer in Your Name, Abba, amen and amen.

- "Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)
Moscow Says Kyiv Struck Nuclear Power Plant, as Ukraine Celebrates Independence Day
Russia accused Ukraine on Aug. 24 of igniting a fire at a nuclear power plant in the western Kursk region overnight with drone attacks. Several power and energy facilities were hit in overnight strikes, Russian officials said. The plant’s press office said on Telegram that the fire was quickly extinguished and that no workers were injured. Ukraine did not immediately comment on the drone strike allegations. The incident occurred as Ukraine celebrates 34 years of its independence from the Soviet Union, which dissolved in 1991.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the U.N. nuclear watchdog, stated that it had seen media reports of a transformer at the plant catching fire “due to military activity” but hadn’t independently confirmed the alleged attacks. Rafael Mariano Grossi, director-general of the IAEA, said, “Every nuclear facility must be protected at all times.” Firefighters were also mobilized to extinguish a fire at the port of Ust-Luga in Russia’s Leningrad region, where a major fuel export terminal is located. Roughly 10 Ukrainian drones were shot down, with fire being lit from the debris, the regional governor said.

The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defenses had intercepted 95 Ukrainian drones over its domestic airspace overnight into Aug. 24. The Ukrainian air force stated that Russia launched 72 drones and decoys, including a cruise missile, into Ukrainian territory overnight into Aug. 24. The air force stated that it had shot down or jammed 48 of the drones.

As Ukraine marked its independence day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a video address from Kyiv’s Independence Square, highlighting his country’s resolve. “We are building a Ukraine that will have enough strength and power to live in security and peace,” Zelenskyy said, noting that Kyiv is calling for a “just peace.” “What our future will be is up to us alone,” he said. “And the world knows this. And the world respects this. It respects Ukraine. It perceives Ukraine as an equal.”

Trump penned a letter to Zelenskyy to congratulate his nation on its independence, which the Ukrainian president shared on X. “On behalf of the American people, I extend my congratulations and warmest wishes to you and the courageous people of Ukraine as you celebrate 34 years of independence,” Trump wrote. “The people of Ukraine have an unbreakable spirit, and your country’s courage inspires many. As you mark this important day, know that the United States respects your fight, honors your sacrifices, and believes in your future as an independent nation. “Now is the moment to bring an end to the senseless killing. The United States supports a negotiated settlement that leads to a durable, lasting peace that ends the bloodshed and safeguards Ukraine’s sovereignty and dignity.”

Zelenskyy thanked Trump for the letter, writing: “We appreciate your kind words for the Ukrainian people, and we thank the United States for standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine in defending what is most valuable: independence, freedom, and guaranteed peace. “We believe that by working together, we can put an end to this war and achieve real peace for Ukraine.” (The Epoch Times) Read more here.
- Father God, we continue to pray, day and night, for the leaders of Ukraine and Russia, with the assistance of the United States, to find a way to end the bloodshed in this brutal war, and to come to a peace agreement. We ask this prayer in Your name, amen and amen.

- "There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand." (Proverbs 19:21)
And Now . . . Lion of Judah: ROAR!!!!
"The Lord shall go forth like a mighty man;
He shall stir up His zeal like a man of war.
He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud;
He shall prevail against His enemies."

Thousands evacuated, flights canceled as Vietnam braces for Typhoon Kajiki to make landfall
Vietnam closed schools, airports, and evacuated thousands of people as it braced for powerful Typhoon Kajiki to make landfall Monday, threatening the country’s northeast with destructive winds and storm surges.

(CNN) — Vietnam closed schools, airports, and evacuated thousands of people as it braced for powerful Typhoon Kajiki to make landfall Monday, threatening the country’s northeast with destructive winds and storm surges.

The typhoon downed trees and soaked China’s southern Hainan island on Sunday before moving over the Gulf of Tonkin overnight with sustained wind speeds of 166 kph (103 mph), according to Vietnam’s national weather forecast agency, the equivalent to a Category 2 Atlantic hurricane.

More than 40,000 people had been evacuated in low-lying coastal communities as of Monday morning, according to the state-run VN Express. Residents have been told not to leave their homes between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. local time, the state Vietnamese News Agency (VNA) reported.

Kajiki is the fifth typhoon to hit Vietnam this year and the most powerful, having sustained its intensity as it churned toward the coast.

Ahead of landfall, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh warned the storm could unleash heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides especially for the low-lying coastal areas, according to Vietnamese state media.

“This is an extremely dangerous fast-moving storm,” the government said in a statement Sunday night, Reuters news agency reported. Read More
