Five years into the Taliban’s rule, poverty and oppression dominate Afghanistan.
Yet God’s Word takes root.

Afghanistan (MNN) — August marks five years since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. What has happened to the nation since the 2021 takeover, and how is God working in the midst of it? While the Taliban’s military rule appears entrenched, conditions are worse for the average Afghan than ever. Families are so poor that they marry their teenage daughters to avoid starvation. About 75 percent of Afghans cannot meet their basic needs.
The regime has also systematically stripped away the rights of women. It has banned women from higher education, banned them from parks and fairs, and even banned them from speaking audibly in public. Denise Godwin of International Media Ministries (IMM) says this hurts the whole country. Experts believe it is jeopardizing Afghanistan’s social and economic future. “Afghanistan is apparently, based on these new reports, one of the lowest literacy rates in the world, maybe the bottom. And part of that’s because they don’t allow women to teach men, so, therefore, men aren’t getting educated,” Godwin says.
IMM creates children’s programming on topics such as the biblical story of Esther. Some ministry partners offer educational programming with certificates. “They are giving the people in Afghanistan, the children, the women, anyone who watches them, an opportunity to learn about truth outside of what the Taliban tells them,” Godwin says. Through satellite, Bluetooth sharing, and the internet, IMM’s programming is distributed by its partners to all areas of Afghanistan. Trump Loses Bid to Move Falsified Business Records Case to Federal Court
|
|
A federal judge on Aug. 28 denied President Donald Trump’s bid to transfer his New York falsified business records case to federal court.
“The grounds for a second removal cited by ... Trump, are neither new nor legally sufficient. He has failed to show good cause and diligence,” U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein said in a written opinion.
A Manhattan jury found Trump guilty in May 2024 of falsifying business records. A New York state judge sentenced him in January 2025, imposing an unconditional discharge. This means he was not given jail time, a fine, or probation.
Under federal law, cases filed in state court can be removed, or transferred, to a federal district court. A defendant files a notice of removal in federal court, which has the effect of transferring the case to federal court on a provisional basis. After the defendant notifies the state court, a hearing follows in federal court, and if removal is denied, the case is remanded back to state court.
In September 2024, Hellerstein denied Trump’s prior removal motion, finding that the U.S. Supreme Court’s July 2024 ruling that former presidents have broad criminal immunity for official acts did not alter his previous conclusion that payments to adult performer Stephanie Clifford “were private, unofficial acts, outside the bounds of executive authority.”
Hellerstein said in that ruling, “It would be highly improper for this Court to evaluate issues of unfairness or error in the state trial. Those are issues for the state appellate courts.”

Trump renames Lake Ontario ‘Lake America’
amid intensifying US-Canada trade dispute
|
|
President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America, a move that came amid a trade war with Canada.
"The Lake of America was something I've been thinking about for a long time, actually. As you know, we took something called the Gulf of Mexico — we changed it — and now it's very routinely the Gulf of America," Trump said in the Oval Office.
The president said he has directed Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and the department to update the Geographic Names Information System to reflect the name change.
The order called Lake Ontario a "tremendous asset" to the United States.
"The United States is the greatest protector of the Great Lakes, including the body of water currently known as Lake Ontario," the order states. "Without the security and investment provided by the United States, this freshwater system would not be open for shipping, recreation, and responsible use to the same extent as it is today."
The order said the U.S. Coast Guard supplies nine of the 11 ice-breaking vessels on the Great Lakes, securing commercial shipping lanes free of charge. The U.S. has also invested nearly $4 billion in protecting the Great Lakes freshwater ecosystem in the last decade, while Canada "has invested far less in similar initiatives over the same period." Judge rules alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed's confession
inadmissible in trial
|

A military judge ruled Friday that a confession pertaining to the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001 is inadmissible in an upcoming trial because it was tainted by the suspect being tortured through waterboarding.
The judge, Lt. Col. Michael Schrama, ruled that the alleged mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed's confessions to the FBI were not made voluntarily, and that subsequent interrogations in 2007 at Guantánamo were also inadmissible.
“The prosecution has failed to prove by a preponderance of the evidence that Mr. Mohammad’s statements to the F.B.I. were voluntarily given,” Schrama wrote in the conclusion of his 45-page ruling, according to the New York Times.
The judge cited several factors in his ruling, including an “unbroken continuation of the C.I.A.’s psychological conditioning and severe coercion” at the time of the questioning in 2007 and that the FBI intentionally failed to tell Mohammed that he had a right to be silent and to consult a lawyer, and that what he confessed could be used against him at a trial. Lord God of Justice, we are grieved at this ruling, which causes the US case against this terrorist for the 9-11-2001 attacks to falter. There are a couple of things that need fixing: one is that the CIA must use wisdom to achieve the goal of confession, and the judges that oversee all cases be righteous judges that have the best actions at heart for our nation and Your Kingdom.

Judge Blocks USPS Rule Tightening Mail-In Voting
|
|
A district judge on Thursday temporarily blocked the U.S. Postal Service from implementing parts of a rule that aims to tighten mail-in voting requirements ahead of the November congressional elections.
U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani in Boston issued a temporary restraining order at the behest of some states and voting rights groups, following the U.S. Supreme Court’s Aug. 24 ruling that led to the lifting of earlier injunctions blocking Trump’s plans to ensure only U.S citizens receive and cast ballots.
Thursday’s temporary restraining order, blocking core parts of the rule, was issued in response to two lawsuits. One was filed by a coalition of 23 states, the District of Columbia, and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro. The second lawsuit was filed by multiple organizations, including the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts.
In her order, Talwani said that the Postal Service’s final rule imposes multiple requirements on states, including complying with envelope design requirements, securing USPS approval for ballot envelope and return envelope designs, and inputting voter information into a USPS-run electronic portal.
The judge said the agency had presented no evidence of fraudulent mail-in voting that would necessitate such a rule, and that the rule was likely unlawful and adopted in violation of the U.S. Constitution, which gives states the authority to administer elections. (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

1. Netanyahu warns Winter’s party could ‘bring down’ his coalition; Winter: ‘Real threat is current government’ - Times of Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declares that Ofer Winter’s People of Israel party could cost the outgoing right-wing coalition seats if it runs alone in the upcoming election, urging Winter to meet with him and address the issue.
“I’m concerned that this party could do one of two things: either waste votes or cause one of the parties I mentioned to fall [below the electoral threshold],” the premier says during an appearance on the pro-Netanyahu Channel 14.
Netanyahu asserts Winter is drawing almost no support from voters backing rivals Naftali Bennett or Avigdor Lieberman and urges him to coordinate with the broader right-wing camp. (Read more)

2. The secret Hamas channel Israel never severed, even at war - Israel Hayom
Israel has maintained several direct, secret channels of communication with Hamas, and this has been the case for years, including during military confrontations. Some of these channels have remained in place even after the October 7 massacre. This is what a security official who has worked in this field until recently told Israel Hayom.
According to the official, the channel between Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar and Ghazi Hamad is a longstanding Shin Bet channel with Hamas that was reopened during the war, though not immediately after October 7. The channel was meant for passing messages without mediation and for carrying out necessary coordination on matters related to the hostages, food supplies for humanitarian issues, and other topics.
The official said this channel has helped bring about the hostage deals and has even helped protect their lives while they were held captive. "We have been talking to Hamas since its founding. There are indirect channels, but the various mediators also have their own interests. A direct channel helps both sides understand the real messages and solves problems in real time, even when there is fighting," the official said. (Read more)

Greece is set to sign a $3.6 billion defense deal with Israel on Monday in Tel Aviv, a major agreement that will provide Athens with a multilayered air defense systemagainst potential threats from Turkey and Iran.
The agreement, negotiated over three years, will become the largest defense export deal in Israel’s history.
A Greek delegation will sign the agreement with Israel’s Defense Ministry to purchase air defense systems valued at $3.6 billion, slightly below earlier estimates. The deal will provide Greece, for the first time, with an integrated, multilayered defense network.

4. Masked Jewish extremists attack NBC News crew in West Bank | Watch

Masked Jewish extremists attacked an NBC News crew in the West Bank while it was interviewing a Palestinian woman who said settlers had forced her to leave her home. The U.S. network said correspondent Matt Bradley, two other crew members and the woman they were interviewing received treatment for injuries sustained in the attack.
The crew documented the assault. In footage released by the network, masked men are seen approaching them in a vehicle, getting out while carrying clubs and striking the crew’s vehicle.
The Associated Press, whose reports are republished verbatim by thousands of news sites around the world, noted that the IDF said in response that it was “aware of reports of Palestinian injuries, including a Palestinian woman who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was evacuated by the Red Crescent for medical treatment.” It did not comment on the attack on the NBC crew. More than 1,100 North American Jews have made aliyah to Israel in August alone, marking a record-breaking month for Jewish immigration from the United States and Canada — a powerful show of resilience that is expected to bring a significant boost to the country at a time of deep regional uncertainty.
On Thursday, 150 new olim arrived in Tel Aviv as Nefesh B’Nefesh (NBN), a nonprofit organization that promotes and facilitates aliyah from the US and Canada, welcomed another wave of newcomers as part of a surge in immigration to Israel.

1. Marine One has communication issue with Reagan air traffic control - Breitbart
The pilots of President Donald Trump’s Marine One helicopter and air traffic controllers at Ronald Reagan National Airport had difficulties communicating with each other, the second such incident in a month.
Air traffic control audio reviewed by CNN said the incident happened Thursday as the helicopter neared departure from the White House. CBS News reported that the pilots’ calls to air traffic control went unheard and another pilot intervened.
The incident comes less than a month after there was a “loss of separation incident” between Marine One and a commercial aircraft departing Reagan airport on Aug. 4. Air traffic control didn’t receive the call from Marine One that it was departing the ellipse so it didn’t halt departing commercial flights as typical during Marine One movement. It led to the helicopter coming within 700 feet vertically of an Envoy Air jet.
Trump was aboard the helicopter during that safety incident, the National Transportation Safety Board said. He was enroute to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland where he was due to board Air Force One for a trip to Los Angeles. (Read more)

2. Canadian Broadcasting Corp Tells Staff Not to Refer to 9/11 as ‘Terrorist Attack’- Breitbart
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) sent a memo to its reporters and editors this week instructing them not to refer to the September 11, 2001, attack on America as a “terrorist attack.”
The memo, first reported by an astonished Warren Kinsella at the Toronto Sun, used boldface type to emphasize the directive to CBC employees.
“Do not refer to the Sept. 11 attacks as terrorist attacks,” the memo said bluntly.
“The hijackings led to passenger jet crashes in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania and Manhattan. The World Trade Center was destroyed,” the memo continued, by way of explaining why the atrocity seen by most of the world as the textbook example of a “terrorist attack” should not be described as such.
According to Kinsella, the memo originated with Basem Boshra, the Senior Director of Journalistic Standards and Public Trust at CBC News.
Kinsella reached out to CBC to ask for further insights on why “hijackings” that “led to passenger jet crashes” should not be treated as terrorism.
The response, from CBC spokeswoman Kerry Kelly, was this:
“CBC’s longstanding language guidance regarding the terms ‘terrorist’ and ‘terrorism’ is a preference for the use of these words with attribution, a practice shared by many of the world’s top journalistic organizations. Our general manager and editor in chief has written publicly in the past on the subject.”
In other words, CBC claimed it was following in the footsteps of news organizations that have invented lively euphemisms for terrorists, such as “activists” or “militants.” The CBC guide also seemed to be using a dash of passive voice to whitewash the horror of 9/11, as if those passenger jet crashes were a force of nature, or an unexpected consequence of the crazy hijinks of the hijackers. Lord, this is possibly another retaliation for the trade deal falling through, and reflects their anger and even hatred of the President. We pray for the move of Your Spirit on both sides of the border and pray that repentance will flow in a mighty flood.

3. Trump announces establishment of U.S. Space Academy - Just The News
President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order establishing the U.S. Space Academy, a military academy for the U.S. Space Force.
Trump created the Space Force during his first time, marking the first time in decades that the U.S. established a new service branch of the armed forces. The academy is being created to prepare Americans to serve in the Space Force.
"Given the rapid growth of the Space Force and the commercial space industry, and the expansion of our ambitions to the moon and far beyond the moon ... it's clear that we will need to educate and train an entire generation of skilled service members, engineers and civil operators," he said in an announcement.
"That's a big deal," he added, likening the planned facility to West Point, Annapolis, and the other military service academies. (Read more)

4. Trump election fraud crackdown lands first arrest, putting longtime critics in White House crosshairs- Fox
The first arrest in what a Trump administration prosecutor says will be a broader election fraud crackdown was announced Friday in Los Angeles, and the White House seized on the case to hit back at longtime critics.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli announced a Honduran national was charged with two felony counts and could face deportation if convicted, while criticizing California’s current voter registration safeguards and renewing DOJ demands for a voter roll audit.
"Today’s arrest is the first of many to come. Unfortunately, because states like California allow non-citizens to easily register to vote and receive a ballot by mail, there’s no telling how many non-citizens are currently registered to vote," Essayli said in a statement announcing the capture of Darwin Jonathan Rivera Flores. 5. EXCLUSIVE: National Security Experts Sound Alarm After X Uncovers Chinese Bot Farm Targeting U.S. Data Center/AI Debate- Breitbart
National security experts are warning about China-linked efforts to use American artificial intelligence and social media platforms in attempts to shape U.S. debates over data centers, energy, and technology policy after X said it identified a bot farm of approximately 200,000 suspected inauthentic Chinese accounts.
X’s Global Government Affairs account announced Thursday that the X Safety team “conducted an investigation into suspected Chinese inauthentic accounts involved in influence operations.”
“We identified a bot farm of approximately 200,000 accounts,” X said. “Within this farm, we found 200 accounts posting in a manner that could manipulate a legitimate debate about American AI and energy policy.”
According to X’s Global Government Affairs account said, “These posts contained claims that AI data centers are driving up household electricity prices and straining the grid.” The company added that other posts “included AI-generated cartoons that depicted data-center operators enriching themselves at the public’s expense.”
“We remain committed to maintaining an open and authentic platform where people debate topics of public interest,” X said. “We take seriously any attempts to undermine the integrity of the global town square and suspend accounts that violate our Authenticity policy.” (Read more)

6. Russia threatens strikes on UK military targets, ‘catastrophic consequences’ over Ukraine- Fox
Russia warned Thursday that it could strike British military targets inside and outside Ukraine if Kyiv uses long-range British cruise missiles against targets deep inside Russian territory, according to reports.
This came a day after Moscow accused Ukraine of striking a shopping center in Russian-controlled Donetsk with British Storm Shadow missiles, wounding civilians, including children.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Thursday that Britain was "one step away" from becoming legally complicit in what she described as civilian-targeted "terrorism," warning that failure to change course would bring "catastrophic consequences," Reuters reported. (Read more)

June primary ballots are locked inside the Redding elections office. Registrar Clint Curtis, staff, and Take Our California Back Teams who audited Video Footage of Mail-In-Ballots entering the tabulator say they did not look, feel, or smell right and could be Counterfeit!
After President Trump’s announcements on alleged foreign election interference and the designation of Antifa as a terrorist organization, local officials say the FBI, DHS, DOJ, and U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli’s office have been notified.
Sheriff Michael Johnson says he understands the FBI is already reviewing the matter and that a threat to the facility—including a comment from Antifa (Terrorist Organization) Antagonists that the old building would be easy to burn down—is under active investigation. Democrats Just Handed Trump the Tariff Weapon They've Been Screaming About for Two Years
|
|
|
For two years, Senate Democrats held hearings on Trump's tariff agenda, issued press releases calling it reckless and inflationary, and hauled administration officials before committees to argue that the president was threatening the American consumer.
This week, they voted to give him 500% tariff authority.
The Senate passed a Russia sanctions package granting President Trump the power to impose tariffs of up to 500% on Russian imports and up to 100% on the top five countries purchasing Russian energy — a list that includes China and India. The late Sen. Lindsey Graham had built this package for roughly two years. It finally passed, with the bulk of the Democratic caucus voting yes. Only 9 Democrats and Sen. Rand Paul voted against it.
The bill gives Trump something he didn't have before: explicit congressional authorization, on the record, with bipartisan support, for the kind of trade pressure he's been applying since day one. No emergency declarations. No executive action arguments. A Senate vote saying the president has the authority to bring maximum economic force against Russia and the countries keeping Putin's war machine funded.
The Democrats who voted yes knew exactly what they were doing. They said so out loud.
Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon warned his colleagues on the floor that the bill "gives Donald Trump massive new tariff authority that he can use to threaten our trading partners and raise prices on the American people." Most of his colleagues voted yes anyway. Sen. Elizabeth Warren acknowledged that Trump "has shown what he will do with broad tariff authority." She voted yes. Sen. Richard Blumenthal said the courts would restrain Trump if he used the authority in ways Democrats didn't like. He voted yes. Sen. Raphael Warnock said he thought he'd made "considerable progress" in installing guardrails on the president's tariff power. Those guardrails allow for 500% tariffs. He voted yes.

President Donald Trump announced in a Truth Social post on Friday that the United States is taking control of 65 billion barrels from Venezuela’s oil reserves.
“The United States of America has just entered into an Agreement with the Country of Venezuela on, THE BIGGEST OIL DEAL IN WORLD HISTORY!” Trump wrote. “This Historic Transaction MORE THAN DOUBLES American Oil Reserves, greatly increases our Oil Supply, and will substantially lower Gas Prices for all Americans.”
The announcement of the deal comes as gas prices in the United States have remained high six months into conflicts with Iran, and roughly nine months after American military forces captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
Trump said the deal, which was done through a partnership of private businesses, was brokered by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and “Highly Respected” interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez, who served as Maduro’s vice president.
“This deal is a huge win for both the American and Venezuelan people,” Rubio wrote in a post on X. “It demonstrates how President Trump’s bold foreign policy is driving America First wins: securing stable reserves and low-cost oil in our Hemisphere and lowering gas prices here at home.” (The Epoch Times) (Read more)

Finland to end $23M UNRWA funding agreement
|

Finland will not renew a multi-year funding agreement with the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees when it expires at the end of this year, Finnish Foreign Trade Minister Ville Tavio announced Thursday.
The agreement, signed in 2023, provided 20 million euros, or about $23 million, to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, known as UNRWA. Tavio said Finland will continue providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians through other organizations, including the World Food Program.
Finland temporarily suspended funding to UNRWA in 2024 following allegations that agency employees participated in the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attacks against Israel. The funding was later reinstated.
Israel's Foreign Ministry praised Finland's decision Friday, citing what it called “conclusive evidence of UNRWA employees’ involvement in the October 7 massacre and UNRWA’s inseparable links to Hamas.”
“UNRWA is a hotbed of terrorism. It is part of the problem, not part of the solution,” the ministry said on X. (Fox News) Read more here.

Police operation takes unexpected turn when officers stumble upon ancient burial cave
|
|
|
Israeli police recently stumbled on an ancient burial cave in an unlikely place while carrying out an operation in Jerusalem.
The discovery was announced by the Israel Police, Israel's civilian law enforcement agency, on Aug. 24.
While carrying out an operation related to what police described as a "violent family conflict" in Silwan, a village in East Jerusalem, officers came upon the cave.
The operation followed a deadly clash between feuding families that erupted into gunfire and Molotov cocktail attacks, according to The Jerusalem Post.
The violence prompted police to launch an operation aimed at locating those involved in the conflict.
"As part of the activity, Jerusalem Border Police officers conducted searches in Silwan and accompanied government authority representatives at a compound where individuals involved in the incident reside," police said in a translated statement.
Officers then found the burial cave beneath a building — along with other "archaeological finds."
"Representatives of the Israel Antiquities Authority arrived at the scene, and an initial examination indicates that the graves date to the Second Temple period," police said.
