‘Mail-In Ballots Are Not Secure’: Court Gives Texas Green Light To Enforce Voter ID Law
|

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday unanimously rejected the Biden administration’s challenge to a Texas law requiring mail-in ballots to include a state identification number or partial Social Security number. The law invalidates mail-in ballots that do not include the information. In September 2021, Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott signed the Election Integrity and Protection Act into law. It was immediately challenged by the Biden administration and other leftist groups, including the League of Women Voters, who claimed the law violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In November 2023, U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez struck down the provision of the Texas law requiring voters who used mail-in ballots to provide identification numbers.
But last December, the 5th Circuit Court paused the 2023 injunction, and on Monday, it dismissed the lower court’s claims. “Mail-in ballots are not secure,” staunch conservative Judge James Ho wrote, adding that the law “fully complies with a provision of federal law known by the parties as the materiality provision of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. … The ID number requirement is obviously designed to confirm that each mail-in ballot voter is precisely who he claims he is. And that is plainly ‘material’ to determining whether such individual is qualified under State law to vote. Merely requiring mail-in ballot applications to list the voter’s name and registration address triggers significant election security concerns. That information is easily available to anyone who simply requests it from Texas election officials — who readily provide copies of voter files with such information on request. As a result, any person can request and receive that information about a registered voter, use that information to apply for a mail-in ballot, and then cast the ballot, with minimal risk of detection,” he continued. Trump says JD Vance would be 'probably favored' for 2028 Republican presidential nomination

Vice President JD Vance would be favored to secure the Republican nomination for president in 2028, President Donald Trump said Tuesday.
Trump was at the South Court Auditorium where he signed an executive order to create a 2028 Los Angeles Olympics task force when senior Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked him if Vance was likely to become the face of the Make America Great Again movement after noting the president said he wouldn't be running for a third term.
"You could clear the entire Republican field right now," Doocy told Trump. "Do you agree that the heir-apparent to MAGA is JD Vance?"
In his answer, Trump noted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio could team up with Vance to create a formidable ticket.
"Well, I think most likely. In all fairness, he's the vice president, and I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form," Trump replied.
"I also think we have incredible people, some of the people on the stage right here. So it's too early, obviously, to talk about it, but certainly he's doing a great job," he added. "And he would be probably favored at this point." (Fox News) Read more here.

Man arrested with fully loaded AR-15 and knives outside Palm Beach airport frequented by Trump
|

|
Authorities in Florida arrested a man early Tuesday morning after discovering a loaded AR-15 rifle and several knives inside a rental vehicle parked in a restricted area at a Palm Beach County Airport, according to law enforcement officials.
Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) deputies responded around 7:10 a.m. after airport operations staff reported a suspicious individual standing outside a dark-colored vehicle in a secure parking zone.
When deputies arrived, they found the man, later identified as Michael Rodrigues, 41, of no known local address, outside the vehicle, reportedly getting dressed. Deputies determined the vehicle was a rental and opened the glove compartment to retrieve the rental agreement. Inside, they found a fully loaded AR-15 magazine.
A full search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded AR-15 rifle and multiple knives hidden beneath a blanket on the seat. The man was taken into custody without incident and is currently being interviewed by detectives.
Rodrigues has not yet been formally charged, but the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are working to obtain a search warrant for further examination of the vehicle and any related evidence.
The airport is known to be used by President Trump, though officials confirmed Trump is not currently in Florida. (Fox News) Read more here.

Biden Lost 500K Migrant Children—Trump Administration Is Returning Them Home
|

The Trump administration is working to safely return to their home countries the unaccompanied illegal migrant children lost under the Biden administration, The Daily Signal has learned.
Hundreds of thousands of minors arrived at the southern border without a parent or a legal guardian under the Biden administration. The Trump administration has located 13,000 of those children, and now, the Office of Refugee Resettlement, a subagency of the Department of Health and Human Services, is working to reunite those children with their families in their home countries and find the rest of the missing minors.
“If their parents are outside the United States, we are going to look at repatriating them to their country,” John Fabbricatore, a senior adviser at the Office of Refugee Resettlement, told The Daily Signal.
Fabricatore said there is a misconception that the unaccompanied alien children are getting deported, when in fact it’s a reunification process.
“They want to go home to mom and dad in their country of origin,” he said. “We will try to help facilitate that through their governments of origin. We can work with other countries to get these children back to their relatives, their parents in those other countries, if they do reside there.”
If a migrant child is in danger, the U.S. government will make “every effort” to find their parents. Foreign governments that come forward asking for their children back will bear the responsibility to connect the child with their parents.
“We always work with these foreign governments, not just HHS, but [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] does,” Fabbricatore said. “There are consular officers that go out from all of these different countries to visit their citizens that are in custody or in care.” (Daily Signal) Read more here.

Trump envoy Witkoff meets Putin in Moscow ahead of Ukraine ceasefire deadline
|
|
|
White House special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday ahead of President Donald Trumps' Friday deadline for Moscow to make peace with Ukraine or face severe sanctions.
According to a senior administration official, the meeting "went well" but secondary sanctions are still expected to be deployed against Moscow this week.
"The Russians are eager to continue engaging with the United States. The secondary sanctions are still expected to be implemented on Friday," the senior administration official said.
Despite no tangible progress toward a ceasefire, the expectation is that talks between Russian and American officials will continue through the day and potentially up until Friday's deadline, two U.S. officials familiar with the matter said.
President Trump, on social media, suggested the meeting between Witkoff and Putin was "highly productive."
"Great progress was made! Afterwards, I updated some of our European Allies. Everyone agrees this War must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come," Trump wrote.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he spoke with Witkoff after the meeting.
"Ambassador Witkoff is on his way back now," Secretary of State Marco Rubio said. "I just got off the phone with him a few minutes ago. We'll have some other discussions throughout the day and then hopefully there will be something else to announce here real soon. Maybe positive, maybe not." (ABC News) Read more here.

1. IDF orders evacuation of Gaza City area cleared twice before - JNS
The Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday urged Palestinians in the Gaza City district of Zeitoun to evacuate to the southern Strip, as the army continues to deepen its ground operations against Hamas westward.
IDF forces first entered Zeitoun, once considered a major Hamas terrorist stronghold, in November 2023. In March 2024, the military carried out a two-week clearance operation in Zeitoun after Hamas’s presence resurged in the Gaza City neighborhood.
“As previously warned, the IDF is continuing to expand its operations westward. For your safety, evacuate immediately southward to the Al-Mawasi area,” Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee, head of the Arab Media Branch in the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, tweeted on Wednesday morning. (Read more)

2. Netanyahu to convene security cabinet Thursday evening to approve Gaza war plans - Times of Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will convene his security cabinet at 6 p.m. Thursday at his office in Jerusalem, according to the Prime Minister’s Office, where it is expected to approve fresh plans for the continuation of the war in Gaza.
During a three-hour security discussion among a smaller group on Tuesday, Netanyahu was presented with options for continued military operations in the Gaza Strip by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
The cabinet is reportedly expected to approve a full military occupation of the Strip during Thursday’s meeting, despite Zamir and army officials warning against it.
Military officials believe that if Israel proceeds with the plan, it will lead to heavy casualties among Israeli troops, the Kan public broadcaster reported Wednesday. (Read more)

The government’s plan for the Gaza Strip, backed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is set to be presented to the security cabinet on Thursday and is expected to include plans to occupy new portions of the enclave, sources told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday.
The plan is expected to involve around five IDF divisions and last approximately five months. It will also involve relocating approximately one million Gaza City residents and will likely be approved on Thursday, cabinet ministers told the Post, adding that “the real question is what version of the plan will ultimately be approved.”
IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir is expected to remain in his position and not resign despite his opposition to the plan. “The operation is a mistake and will endanger the hostages,” Zamir said during a discussion on Tuesday. (Read more)

The IDF on Wednesday evening struck Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure sites in southern Lebanon.
According to a statement from the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, among the targets struck were a Hezbollah weapons storage facilities, a missile launcher and Hezbollahterrorist infrastructure which stored engineering tools that allowed for the reestablishment of terrorist infrastructure in the area.
“The Hezbollah terrorist organization continues attempting to reestablish terrorist infrastructure throughout Lebanon using the lebanese population as human shields. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned Americans to take "enhanced precautions" while traveling to China over an outbreak of the mosquito-borne chikungunya virus. The agency issued a fresh travel warning this month saying that cases of the illness are rapidly spreading in Guangdong province, with most being reported in the city of Foshan. Chinese health officials said more than 7,000 cases have been confirmed there since June 2025.
"Most people infected with chikungunya virus develop some symptoms. Symptoms of chikungunya usually begin 3–7 days after a bite by an infected mosquito," according to the CDC. "The most common symptoms are fever and joint pain. Other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, or rash. Most people get better within a week; however, some can have severe joint pain for months to years following acute illness."
"People at risk for more severe disease include newborns infected around the time of birth, older adults (65 years or older), and people with medical conditions such as diabetes or heart disease. Death from chikungunya is rare," the CDC added. "There is no specific treatment for chikungunya." (Read more) |

2. Army soldiers tackle sergeant accused of opening fire at Fort Stewart; 5 wounded - Fox News
At least five soldiers were wounded after an Army sergeant who was recently arrested allegedly opened fire Wednesday at Fort Stewart in Georgia. The suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Quornelius Radford, a U.S. Army active-duty automated logistics sergeant from Jacksonville, Florida, who was assigned to the installation.
Army officials said Radford allegedly used a personal handgun in the shooting, and was tackled by other soldiers before being taken into custody. He had not deployed to combat.
"These soldiers, without a doubt, prevented further casualties," Brig. Gen. John Lubas, 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield commander, wrote in a statement. 3. Air quality alerts in place across 10 states as extreme heat warnings issued in Southwest - ABC News
Air quality alerts are in place for portions of 10 states as U.S. officials warn smoke from hundreds of Canadian fires may become dangerous for sensitive groups.
The smoke from Canada is expected to move over Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., while holding over much of Pennsylvania and New York, as calming high pressure and stable winds could hold onto this haze over the Northeast through much of the week and potentially even the weekend.
There are 191 wildfires designated as "out of control" in Canada, the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFF) said in an update Wednesday. Overall, there are 747 active wildfires burning in the country, according to the centre.
The National Preparedness level inside of Canada is at a five, meaning "firefighters and equipment in every jurisdiction in Canada is put to use, and international help has been requested," CIFF said. (Read more) |

Seventeen Planned Parenthood facilities across the United States have closed their doors so far in 2025, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing pro-life movement. 6. Major economist issues caution about possible economic recession - DML News
Top economist Mark Zandi of Moody’s Analytics warned Monday that the U.S. is on the verge of a recession. In a post on X, he cited last week’s weaker-than-expected jobs report and rising inflation, which could hinder the Federal Reserve’s ability to support the economy.
“Consumer spending has flatlined, construction and manufacturing are contracting, and employment is set to fall. And with inflation on the rise, it is tough for the Fed to come to the rescue,” he wrote.
Zandi noted that low unemployment is misleading, as labor force growth has stalled and the number of foreign-born workers is down. He pointed to a broad hiring freeze—especially for recent grads—and reduced hours worked as signs of a weakening job market. Stupidocrisy: The Underminers and Usurpers

Here we go again. Democrats wag their fingers at Republicans for “undermining democracy,” “suppressing votes,” and “threatening our sacred institutions.” Every election cycle, the left screams that requiring voter ID is racist, cleaning up voter rolls is fascist, and questioning election results is basically treason. But it turns out the real threat to democracy was sitting right inside the Obama White House, playing God with the truth. According to newly declassified intel, Obama and his gang weren’t defending democracy at all. They were sabotaging it by orchestrating a slow-motion coup using falsified intelligence and suppressed evidence. And the media? Oh, they played right along like good little foot soldiers.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard dropped a political bombshell by releasing those declassified documents showing that Obama manipulated the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment to falsely claim that Trump colluded with Russia. Gabbard says Obama directed his intel officials to ignore or bury dissenting views. The goal was simple: discredit Trump before he even took the oath. Meanwhile, Obama’s CIA pushed the Steele dossier—funded by Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee—despite knowing it was unverified garbage. Add in carefully timed media leaks, FISA court abuse, and a public kept in the dark, and you’ve got yourself a textbook example of how to hijack a democracy with a straight face and a teleprompter. Justice Department publishes list of 35 "sanctuary" jurisdictions, vowing to bring more immigration lawsuits

Washington — The Justice Department published a list of 35 "sanctuary" jurisdictions on Tuesday, vowing to bring lawsuits against states, counties and cities that limit local cooperation with federal immigration agents.
"Sanctuary policies impede law enforcement and put American citizens at risk by design," Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement. "The Department of Justice will continue bringing litigation against sanctuary jurisdictions and work closely with the Department of Homeland Security to eradicate these harmful policies around the country."
The Justice Department put 12 states on its list — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington — and the District of Columbia. It also included Baltimore County, Maryland; Cook County, Illinois; San Diego County, California; and San Francisco County, California, along with 18 cities from Seattle to Philadelphia.
In April, President Trump signed an executive order directing the Justice Department to "publish a list of States and local jurisdictions that obstruct the enforcement of Federal immigration laws" to be known as "sanctuary jurisdictions."
Under the order, the Justice Department was to notify each jurisdiction of "its defiance of Federal immigration law enforcement." If the jurisdiction continued to be in defiance, the order directed the Justice Department to "pursue all necessary legal remedies and enforcement measures to end these violations and bring such jurisdictions into compliance with the laws of the United States."
The Justice Department has taken legal action against a number of sanctuary jurisdictions in recent months, suing New York City in July to challenge its sanctuary city laws. Republicans in Congress have also homed in on the issue in fiery committee hearings this year, questioning Democratic mayors and governors over their jurisdiction's policies. Texas AG’s Ultimatum to Missing Democrats: Return or Risk Ouster

Texas state House Democrats again refused to return for state legislative business Tuesday, prompting Republicans to issue an ultimatum—come back to the Capitol by Friday or risk removal from office.
Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office released a statement Tuesday that “he will pursue a court ruling ensuring that their seats are declared vacant” if they do not return for legislative work by Friday.
Ahead of the Texas House of Representatives’ consideration of a newly redrawn congressional map that would favor Republicans, Democrats have fled the state in order to break quorum—the number of representatives required to be present for debate to proceed. That has temporarily frozen House activity.
Texas state House Republicans’ redistricting plans could flip as many as five Democrat-held congressional seats, an effort President Donald Trump supports. The special session is also devoted to providing ongoing relief for victims of the devastating Texas Hill Country flooding in July.
In response to the Democrats’ absence, the state House empowered the sergeant-at-arms on Monday to return these lawmakers to the Capitol, by force if necessary. But on Tuesday, the House still could not reach the 100-member quorum threshold, with only 94 members registering themselves, and Democrats still harboring in blue enclaves, such as New York and Illinois.
Paxton says his threat comes as “Speaker of the House Dustin Burrows has given members until Friday, Aug. 8, to return to Texas and present themselves before the House.” The House’s warrants for the arrest of those members do not apply outside of Texas and do not carry criminal charges. “If you don’t show up to work, you get fired,” Paxton said in his statement, possibly emulating the signature catchphrase of Trump. Paxton is running in the 2026 Republican Senate primary against incumbent Sen. John Cornyn.
Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has already indicated he is open to removing rogue lawmakers from office, having said in a statement on Sunday that “for any member who fails to [arrive at the Capitol], I will invoke Texas Attorney General Opinion No. KP-0382 to remove the missing Democrats from membership in the Texas House.” Abbott also said he thinks the members may be guilty of felony bribery crimes if they are accepting donations to pay the $500 daily fines that apply to intentionally breaking quorum. Cornyn penned a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel on Tuesday, urging him to investigate possible “bribery or other public corruption offenses” committed by the lawmakers. Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn launches campaign for governor
|

Republican U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee announced she is running for governor after more than six years in the upper chamber.
Current Gov. Bill Lee, a Republican who has held the post since early 2019, is prevented from running for re-election in 2026 due to term limits.
Blackburn isn't the only federal lawmaker eyeing the job — U.S. Rep. John Rose, R-Tenn., launched a gubernatorial bid earlier this year.
"In his first six months, President Trump has made historic strides in Making America Great Again, but as he sends power back to the states, he’s going to need strong conservative governors who can bring that revolution home. I’m running to serve as Tennessee’s next governor to ensure Tennessee is America’s conservative leader," Blackburn said in a statement.
Blackburn, who has served in the U.S. Senate since early 2019, won re-election to a second six-year term back in November 2024.
Tennessee state Rep. Lee Reeves, a Republican, issued a full-throated endorsement of Blackburn for governor, declaring in a post on X that she "has always been Tennessee’s conservative warrior" and "is the tip of the spear in the fight against the Left in our state, fighting alongside President @realDonaldTrump."
GOP state Rep. Jason Zachary described Blackburn as "A proven, conservative leader!" and noted that he supports her for governor.
Blackburn signaled earlier this year that she planned to run. "I am strongly looking at it," she had told the Tennessee Journal, according to The Tennessean. "I intend to run. I will win, and we'll make certain that Tennessee is the most conservative state in the country." (Fox News) Read more here.

Gifford Fire burns 83,000 acres, now the largest blaze in California this year

The Gifford Fire, a wildfire burning in Central California that has destroyed over 83,000 acres in six days, continues to rage and is now the largest blaze in the state this year, according to Cal Fire.
Since it started on Friday afternoon, the Gifford Fire -- which is situated within the Los Padres National Forest in Solvang, California -- has burned 83,933 acres and has only reached 9% containment, prompting evacuation orders for those in the Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, officials said.
While the flames have been centered around thick brush and rugged terrain, officials said over 1,000 structures are threatened by this wildfire.
Nearly 2,000 personnel have been dispatched to help fight the flames, with "great progress made on the west, north and east flanks of the fire" on Monday, according to Los Padres National Forest officials. Winds could potentially reach 20 mph on Tuesday, which could "test lines already constructed," officials said.
On Wednesday, officials sad they would focus on improving "contingency and constructed containment fire lines."
Warmer weather on Thursday and Friday could increase the "fire behavior" and pose a threat to the already raging flames, officials said.
On Tuesday, officials said they will deploy helicopters to "deliver very significant water drops" and will establish two new base camps to allow personnel to "more efficiently access the fire perimeter."
Along with the Gifford Fire, firefighters are now also battling two additional flames in Central California that began on Monday -- the Rosa Fire and the Gold Fire, according to Cal Fire. (ABC News) Read more here.

NASA to Provide Live Coverage of Crew-10 Return, Splashdown
|

NASA and SpaceX are targeting no earlier than 12:05 p.m. EDT, Thursday, Aug. 7, for the undocking of the agency’s SpaceX Crew-10 mission from the International Space Station. Pending weather conditions, splashdown is targeted at 11:58 a.m., Friday, Aug. 8. Crew-10 will be the first mission to splash down off the California coast for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program.
NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Takuya Onishi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Kirill Peskov are completing a five-month science expedition aboard the orbiting laboratory and will return time-sensitive research to Earth.
Mission managers continue monitoring weather conditions in the area, as undocking of the SpaceX Dragon depends on spacecraft readiness, recovery team readiness, weather, sea states, and other factors. NASA and SpaceX will select a specific splashdown time and location closer to the Crew-10 spacecraft undocking.
