New US initiative tackles addiction, yet hope ultimately rests in Christ
|
|
USA (MNN) — A new U.S. federal initiative aims to combat the national addiction crisis. Launched in January, it’s called the “White House Great American Recovery Initiative.”
Brandon Bower from The Lighthouse says, “Anytime the government’s focused on addiction, I think it’s a really good thing, because our community members, our family members, our loved ones are struggling.”
He adds that greater attention to addiction can be beneficial for ministries. Still, he urges discernment as public support grows, since expectations may not always align with Christian convictions.
Turning to the bigger picture, Bower says addiction goes beyond alcohol or drugs: “But then you have pornography, you have food, you have gambling, you have codependency — you have many things that could be addiction if it takes precedence over Jesus.”

In the exact week when Jews worldwide celebrate their deliverance from annihilation in ancient Persia, a conference in Atlanta will unite Jews, Christians, Israelis, and Iranians to confront threats to freedom and stand with Israel. The Root & Branch Unity Conference, scheduled for March 6-7 in Atlanta, GA, arrives at a moment when history appears to be repeating itself—an Iranian regime seeks Israel’s destruction, just as Haman sought to destroy the Jewish people 2,500 years ago in the Persian Empire.
The timing carries additional weight. The conference falls during the anniversary week of co-founder Marziyeh Amirizadeh’s arrest and death sentence in Iran for converting to Christianity. Her story of imprisonment, torture, and miraculous release mirrors the ancient narrative of Megillat Esther (the Book of Esther)—divine intervention saving lives under Persian tyranny.
The Bible records Persia as both Israel’s oppressor and liberator. When the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem and the First Temple in 586 BCE, he exiled the Jewish people to Babylon. Fifty years later, Persian King Cyrus conquered Babylon and issued a decree allowing Jews to return home and rebuild the Temple. The prophet Isaiah even called Cyrus God’s “anointed one”:
“So said the Lord to His anointed one, to Cyrus, whose right hand I held, to flatten nations before him, and I will loosen the loins of kings, to open portals before him, and the gates shall not be closed. I will go before you, and I will level mountain peaks; I will break doors of copper, and I will cut down iron bars” (Isaiah 45:1-2).
Cyrus recognized the God of Israel and facilitated the return of thousands of Jews to their land. This act of liberation stands as one of the most significant moments in Jewish history. Without Persian support, the Second Temple would never have been built.
Yet Persia also produced Haman, the villain of the Purim story, who sought genocide against the Jews. Queen Esther and her uncle Mordechai thwarted his plot, leading to his execution and the Jews’ deliverance. The festival of Purim commemorates this victory, celebrated annually on the 14th and 15th of the Hebrew month of Adar.
The Root & Branch Unity Conference recognizes this dual history. While the Islamic Republic of Iran threatens Israel’s existence today, many Iranians reject their government’s ideology. An underground Christian revival sweeps through Iran, with estimates of hundreds of thousands converting despite severe persecution.

Trump to Host Representatives From More Than 40 Countries in First Board of Peace Meeting

The president announced that member nations will pledge a combined $5 billion towards Gaza reconstruction and aid at the group’s first meeting on Thursday.
President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace is hosting its first meeting in Washington on Feb. 19, featuring attendees representing nearly 50 nations and the European Union among the member states collaborating on the U.S.-backed effort to rebuild the Gaza Strip.
Taking place at the recently renamed U.S. Institute of Peace, it will be the group’s first official meeting after officials from two dozen of the board’s founding member states gathered onstage with Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, last month.
The Board of Peace is part of a multi-pronged effort, including the U.S.-launched Palestinian technocratic committee, to rebuild the Gaza Strip after last year’s cease-fire between Israel and terrorist group Hamas.
Trump’s board aims to provide oversight and mobilization of international resources during a period of transition for Gaza, particularly as the enclave is rebuilt following years of Israeli strikes that leveled entire buildings and neighborhoods.

We thank You that so many countries have signed on to help in this reconstruction of the land and the reestablishing of all the Gazans who were displaced during the fighting. Father God, please intervene in all meetings and conversations to maintain a solid focus on rebuilding and replanting and not on political opinions. We ask each person to take seriously what they have been given to do and to work together with others as a team, not allowing personal attitudes to dilute the effectiveness of the work needing to be done. Jesus, You know each heart, You know whose hearts are focused on rebuilding and whose are not. Iran and Yemen’s Houthis will pay “an immediate and grave price” if they attack Israel in response to a potential US attack, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir and Defense Minister Israel Katz said Thursday.

We know they have used their military against their own people and destroyed so very many lives in an effort to intimidate and destroy any resistance to the tyranny with which they have ruled. Lord, we ask You to take this volatile situation into Your own hands so that these people may live free and learn how to maintain their freedom. We ask that You would give our leaders wisdom as to how to help this situation as this country has been the sponsor of so much terrorism in the world. During all this turmoil, we ask that You would keep Your hand of protection on those who belong to You in this dangerous country.

Plaintiff’s attorney Mark Lanier wasted no time setting the moral tone, opening with the suggestion that there are different ways to deal with vulnerable people—help them, ignore them, or, he said, pulling on the last words in his honeyed Southern drawl, “prey upon them.”
At the center of the case is a 19-year-old California woman identified in court documents by the initials “K.G.M.” or “Kelsey G.M,” who is accusing tech giants of engineering products that rewire young people’s brains and trap them in a cycle of addiction and mental illness.

Dear Lord, we see what damage can be done by the overuse of social media and we cry out for a solution to be found that can preserve free speech and positive aspects of social media but limit the harm to young minds, bodies, and spirits. This attack on young people of our nation needs to be handled with Your wisdom, Lord, so that their health is preserved and they can grow up free of false ideas about a variety of things including You, themselves, and others. Father, we pray that children and young people will begin to be so full of Your word that the enemy will not have a chance to convince them of lies they hear online or otherwise. Lord, we ask You to enter this controversy with Your solutions.

Yet as these events unfold, left-wing media outlets often struggle to even describe the perpetrators accurately. Reports hesitate over what pronouns to use, whether to refer to a shooter as a "man" or "woman (the CBC decided to use 'gunperson' to describe the shooter," and how to frame the story without appearing biased. While sensitivity is important, this overcaution can obscure critical facts about appearance, behavior, and prior criminal or mental health history--information that is vital for public safety. Precious Lord, we bring this critical situation before You for You to work in the hearts and minds of those who report these incidents as well as the public that needs correct information to assess the real danger of supporting transitioning of disturbed individuals. Father, we see when a life is out of Your order that the enemy has access to work his evil work to destroy a person and hurt those close to him or even just around him or her. Father, open the minds of the public to the real facts concerning sexual dysphoria so that pressure can be brought upon those in public office to treat these people as those who desperately need mental health help and not a protected class. Thus may these lies be stopped.

Conservative media personality Tucker Carlson visited Israel briefly on Wednesday for a filmed sit-down with US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, focused on claims about the treatment of Christians in Israel and the wider region, sources told The Jerusalem Post.
According to the sources, Carlson conducted the conversation inside Ben Gurion Airport and did not travel beyond the airport complex. He departed Israel at around 3 p.m., ending a trip that lasted only a few hours.
The unusual in-and-out visit followed a public back-and-forth between the two former Fox News hosts after Carlson published an episode in early February, filmed at the Jordan River baptism site and titled "Christian Persecution."

We pray that Mr. Carlson will come to the full knowledge of the truth and be set free from his anti-semetic mindset.Thank you, Lord, that Mr. Huckabee took the time to interview with Tucker Carlson. It appears that Carlson was not happy that he and his team's credentials were checked when they landed at the airport. Thank You, Father, that anyone coming into Israel has their credentials checked for security reasons by the dedicated Israeli Security team. It is odd that Carlson never left the airport complex even though he could have toured Israel to see the truth.We ask for mercy and forgiveness for Tucker Carlson and pray that the darkness that engulfs him will see the light of Your glory and that he will turn in the direction of the cross. Father God,
Thank you, Lord, that medical malpractice lawsuits are beginning to challenge the "transgender industrial complex." Our hearts are broken for those patients who underwent gender-transition surgeries who did not fully understand what they were doing and were not warned of the long term consequences and risks of the surgeries and treatments. Father let everything hidden now come to light as more transitioners come to the realization that they were deceived. Lord,it is our prayer that all youth transgender treatments and surgeries be stopped completely and that all others will have to go through psychological counseling before radical treatments. Lord, Your word is clear that you created male and female and You created each one with a purpose and anything that comes against Your word must fall to the ground and be brought down. Expose the abuse and deliver those who have been deceived into treatments turn to You and Your word for truth and the inner healing that only You can bring. We humbly offer this prayer, Lord. Amen.

The manual outlines a disciplined strategy: recruit classmates, hold recurring walkouts, pressure businesses, and steadily raise the cost of everyday civic life until political change follows. The goal is political revolution achieved through persistent disruption. This is now being packaged, perhaps in your local schools, as a routine civic habit for young Americans. Students are encouraged to organize inside homerooms, sports teams, and clubs, then escalate toward nationwide demonstrations.
There are already results. High school and college students across the country have staged coordinated walkouts protesting immigration enforcement. Some demonstrations have closed businesses, boycotted companies, and encouraged economic shutdowns. Organizers openly describe these tactics as mass non-cooperation, designed to impose political and financial pressure on institutions. The pattern is consistent, monthly actions build participation, trigger moments expand numbers, and nationwide strikes follow. The combined goods and services deficit dropped to $70.3 billion in December from $136.0 billion in March, a decline of $65.7 billion, according to Commerce Department data released Thursday. The goods deficit alone fell 39 percent, from $162.1 billion to $99.3 billion.
The dramatic nine-month improvement suggests Trump’s tariff strategy is achieving its core objective of reducing America’s trade imbalance. March represented the peak of the deficit as importers rushed to bring in goods ahead of announced tariff increases, creating what economists call “front-loading.” The subsequent decline reflects both reduced import volumes and increased export competitiveness.
The December figure, while higher than the October low of $58.5 billion, was driven by volatile gold flows and a surge in computer accessory imports related to artificial intelligence infrastructure investment. Excluding these temporary factors, the underlying trend continues to show significant improvement from the pre-tariff period.

Praise You, Abba; we can see even more progress in restoring and reforming the U.S. economy. Thank You that the trade deficit has been cut in half since last March; and, hopefully, we will soon see even more of a balance between imports and exports. We are so glad that President Trump has much insight into the workings of the global economy and sees where the U.S. should wrestle with other nations over what tariffs are appropriate. We especially thank You for imparting Your wisdom to him. May we continue to see progress in trade balance, and may we especially see a significant reduction of the national debt as we receive income from tariffs and as other parts of our national budget are reformed.
Lord God, You understand all the ins and outs and workings of finance in the natural but also in the spiritual. As the U.S. begins to operate within balance and as we follow Your direction with regard to fairness, lack of usury and doing our best to reduce the federal deficit, we ask You to bless our nation’s overall economy. Thank You also, Lord, for uncovering billions in fraud across the U.S. and waste within many agencies. We ask that as much as possible be restored and that appropriate oversight be in place in the future.

America Sees a Huge Decline in Crime Thanks to Trump and Republicans

Across America, violent crime is on an impressive decline.
The FBI recently shared new data, illustrating a 20% decrease in the nationwide murder rate. Additionally, violent criminals and drugs are being taken off our streets, helping to make communities safer for thousands across the country.
Most notably, there has been a 31% increase in the number of kilograms of fentanyl seized, plus a 210% increase in the number of gangs and criminal enterprises intercepted.
After years of a raging fentanyl epidemic, ending the lives of half a million Americans, we are finally drawing the line thanks to steadfast policing and straightforward policies.
These remarkable changes could not have been achieved without our country’s heroic law enforcement and support from the highest levels of government.

We pray for our communities to support the removal of criminals from the streets and that the ongoing criminal justice system through jails, courts and prosecutors would also be driven to follow the law of the land, in Jesus's name. We pray for cashless bail to cease and desist and for criminals of every stripe to be retained behind bars for the full length of their sentences, in Jesus's name. Hidden graffiti at tourist-heavy destination reveals 2,000-year-old love notes

Archaeologists in Pompeii recently identified 2,000-year-old love notes — a discovery only made because of advanced technology.
The Pompeii Archaeological Park, in a Jan. 20 statement, said the messages were identified during research campaigns in 2022 and 2025, with the findings only now coming to light.
The wall inscriptions were found in a corridor linking the theater district to Via Stabiana in the park.
One inscription appears to reference a woman named Erato, followed by the word "loves" — though the intended subject remains unclear.
Another read, "I'm in a hurry; take care, my Sava, make sure you love me!"
"Methe, (slave) of Cominia, of Atella, loves Cresto in her heart," a third message read.
"May the Venus of Pompeii be favorable to both of them and may they always live in harmony."
The archaeological park noted the wall was excavated over 230 years ago — and experts did not expect "any new information or further stories" from the tourist-heavy area.
"Millions of visitors pass by [this wall] every year," the statement said.
Researchers digitally charted the wall to record the position of each inscription and identify connections between them.
Using specialized lighting photography known as Reflectance Transformation Imaging, they captured images from multiple angles to reveal faint or worn markings that would otherwise be difficult to detect. (Fox News) Read More
