A 104-year-old World War II veteran had fans reaching for the Kleenex on Saturday night as he delivered an utterly mesmerizing performance of the National Anthem on his saxophone.
Moments before the opening faceoff of Saturday night’s New York Islanders-New York Rangers game at UBS Arena, 104-year-old vet Dominick Critelli serenaded the crowd with a sizzling rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner.
The fans responded with a booming chant of “USA! USA!” after Critelli held the final note for nearly 15 seconds.
In an interview with the New York Post ahead of his performance, Critelli told the story of how he emigrated to the U.S. after being raised in Calabria, Italy.

Deciphering the Trump-Netanyahu Meeting & What Happens Next
|

In a pre-New Year's meeting at Mar-a-Lago, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump demonstrated that when it comes to U.S.-Israel relations, there is little daylight and total admiration between the two allies. This factor holds particularly true regarding the nations' policies toward Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas.
Key differences remain. And that is not only normal but obvious, due to the extremely divergent strategic positions of the world's strongest superpower situated between two oceans, and a Jewish state roughly the size of New Jersey in a neighborhood surrounded by Islamic radicals.
The meeting could not have come at a more important juncture for Israel. Phase 1 of a three-month-old ceasefire brokered by Washington--and based on key provisions proffered by Jerusalem--has proven itself to be a stunning initial success. That Phase 2 will prove to be as successful is less likely.
At the start of the ceasefire in October, all 20 remaining living Israeli hostages returned to Israel, one of its top war priorities. Nearly every dead body killed and taken by Hamas has been returned as well.
This removed the most valuable asset Hamas had as leverage. The hostages served as the ultimate human shields for the leaders of the terrorist organization and were the basis of psychological warfare against the Israeli population. Repatriating the hostages similarly removed the central pillar of the Israeli opposition's political campaign against the prime minister, and their own hedge that Netanyahu would fail to "bring them home." Netanyahu: Hamas Disarmament Key Obstacle to Advancing Gaza Peace in 2026

The Israeli prime minister told Fox News that "the point here is not to negotiate with Hamas," adding: "Their job is to vanish."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Fox News on Tuesday that progress toward the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire hinges on Hamas disarming, calling the terrorist group’s refusal to give up its weapons the central obstacle to stabilizing the territory in 2026.
“A new government in Gaza is possible if you disarm Hamas, because no one’s going to come in there if Hamas stays armed,” Netanyahu told the TV network’s chief political anchor, Bret Baier. “They’ll put a bullet right through the back of their head, you know, anyone of any potential new government.”

Abba, we give You praise and thanksgiving for the peace agreement that was signed between Israel and Hamas, we ask You to work in the hearts of the Hamas leadership to bring them back into alignment with what they said they would do; disarm. Holy Spirit, send out angels to pour Your truth into the minds of all those in Hamas, allow Your words and love to soften their hearts, to see the world through Your eyes, not their own. Jesus, do what only You can do, make them understand how the enemy obtains access to their hearts when they don't keep their word, how they put themselves and those they love in jeopardy. Give them visions of the consequences that come when a person breaks their word, show them Your displeasure.
Jesus, You love each of these people desperately and Your heart is for them to come into Your Kingdom, not the enemy's kingdom. Draw those that will come to Your heart, rescue and heal them. We ask this in the name Yahweh Rapha, The Lord Who Heals.

The top search trends of 2025 are not merely a record of curiosity; they are a cultural confession. They expose what people fear, what they no longer trust, and what they are desperately trying to understand in a world that feels increasingly unstable. When stripped of entertainment and distraction, the year's most persistent search themes reveal a society wrestling with authority, truth, identity, and God.

Abba, this article can be concerning or challenging, depending on the heart of the one reading it. We rejoice that what You said You would do, You have been doing though we have not been able to see it. Thank You that Your kids are finally waking up to the fact that they cannot control their own lives much less the world around them! We ask for You to continue drawing these hearts looking for truth.
Give believers a new vision and sense of calling. Bring those looking for something solid to stand on, to believe in, into their lives to share and rescue those You are wooing. Zohran Mamdani becomes first NYC mayor sworn in on Quran: 'Highly symbolic'

New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani will take his oath of office on multiple versions of the Quran when he's sworn in as the city's first Muslim mayor on Thursday.
Mamdani, 34, will use his grandfather's Quran and one that belonged to Afro-Latino author and historian Arturo Schomburg for a private swearing-in ceremony at midnight on Jan. 1, according to The New York Times.
The initial swearing-in will be administered by State Attorney General Letitia James in an abandoned subway station beneath City Hall.
For the public swearing-in of the self-described democratic socialist at City Hall later on Thursday, which will be administered by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Mamdani will use Qurans that belonged to his grandfather and grandmother.
Hiba Abid, who serves as the New York Public Library's curator for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, told the NYT that she helped Mamdani pick out Schomburg's Quran to use for the inauguration ceremony. Schomburg was not a Muslim, but had an extensive collection of historic books.
"It's a highly symbolic choice because we're about to have a Muslim mayor swearing in using the Quran but also a mayor who was born on the African continent, in Uganda," Abid said. "It really brings together here elements of faith, identity and New York history. (The Christian Post) Read more here.

More than two years after Hamas attacked the Jewish state on Oct. 7, “Israel has come out of this war stronger than ever before,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told attendees of a JNS event in Surfside, Fla., which drew hundreds of people on New Year’s Eve.
“Stronger than ever before economically. What does strong mean? Well, we just signed a $37 billion gas deal,” Netanyahu said at the Shul of Bal Harbour, a Chabad congregation. “That’s strong. We just had Nvidia—they decided to have a massive investment in Israel, and we welcome it.”
The Israeli premier told attendees that the Jewish state made alliances and peace with strong countries.

2. IDF awaits green light to strike as Hezbollah deadline expires - Israel Hayom
The American deadline to Lebanon's government – requiring Hezbollah's full disarmament by year's end– expires Wednesday night, with Israel's security establishment now waiting for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's final go-ahead after his meeting this week with US President Donald Trump.
Fresh IDF figures show Hezbollah has breached the ceasefire 2,024 times, while the Lebanese Armed Forces took enforcement action in just 593 instances. Israel filed 863 violation complaints with Lebanon's military, which claimed to address 593 of them. The IDF moved to stop roughly 90 breaches, leaving 145 targets classified as "open" strikes that Lebanon's army never enforced.
Defense sources indicated Wednesday that Lebanese officials are falsely portraying progress in neutralizing Hezbollah. Beirut maintains that 90% to 95% of territory below the Litani (river in southern Lebanon) has been cleared of the terrorist group, but Israeli intelligence paints a starkly different picture. Thank you for a President who sometimes has to make tough decisions regarding fraud in our nation. The freezing of the money for daycares in Minnesota brings mixed emotions. Rampant fraud in Minnesota has caused the Trump administration to have to freeze all federal childcare funding in that state. Thank you, Lord, for the video of Nick Shirley's excellent work in exposing the reality of this fraud.
As the comprehensive audit of these daycare centers starts, we ask You, Father, to expose every wicked agenda that has taken place in Minnesota or any other state that has fraudulently taken money from the American people. We ask Holy Spirit to speak to every heart that is supporting Hamas, reveal to them the consequence You will bring if they continue to refuse. Over the past two years, Israeli leaders have learned a sobering lesson: aid is never free. Assistance comes with expectations, pressure, and sometimes restraint. During the Biden administration, weapons deliveries became political tools, slowed or scrutinized amid disagreements over Gaza and broader regional strategy. Even when aid ultimately arrived, the message was unmistakable -- support could be conditioned, delayed, or leveraged.
That reality has pushed Israel toward a historic pivot.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently announced a sweeping, decade-long plan to invest more than $100 billion into building an independent Israeli munitions and defense manufacturing base. The stated goal was clear: reduce reliance on all external suppliers -- including friends. Israel is accelerating domestic production of ammunition, weapons systems, and strategic materials. This is not a symbolic gesture. It is a declaration of intent.

Lord God, we thank You that the children of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob have had centuries of experience, standing alone against enemies round about. We stand with Israel in this hour of uncertainty, confident that their leaders will hear Your voice and do as they are told. We thank You, Father God, for their example before all of mankind. A Year To Stand

A happy New Year to you and yours. The calendar turns, but the calling does not. New years bring fresh resolve, fresh mercy, and a sober reminder that time is a gift to be stewarded. We carry lessons from last year without dragging its weight behind us. Gratitude belongs at the front door of January, gratitude for life, for family, for hard-won wisdom, and for the grace that met us when we fell short. As believers, we don’t step into a new year chasing luck or trends. We step forward anchored in purpose, trusting the Lord who orders our steps. Whatever this year holds, joy or trial, clarity or tension, we enter it with eyes open, hearts steady, and confidence that God is already present in the days ahead.
This year also unfolds in the shadow of an election cycle, and with it a familiar national unease. Elections sharpen rhetoric, harden camps, and test institutions. Power is contested, narratives collide, and every issue feels existential. That climate affects markets, families, churches, and communities, whether we like it or not. We should neither ignore it nor be consumed by it. Scripture calls us to be wise, sober-minded, and discerning. The political landscape matters because policy shapes daily life, but it is not ultimate. It is a tool, sometimes used well, sometimes abused. As citizens, we pay attention. A Message for the New Year

As we enter into this amazing and challenging New Year, we at CHPP wish to offer our own wisdom for "having done all, to stand."
2026 promises to be a year full of challenges, in many directions at once. In addition, as we all celebrate our 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation, we have MUCH for which to be grateful.
Here at CHPP, our sense to "stay steady" in these challenging times is very simple: rather than try to discern who is in control; where the elections will be headed; and matters related to our economy and immigration, (and more),
we instead set our eyes firmly upon our Savior, trusting Him to lead us through this New Year . . . one day at a time.
We invite all of you to join us in placing our hand in His, and to trust Him to bring us through.

Washington Monument to have projection show to commemorate America’s 250th birthday
|

To commemorate America’s 250th birthday in 2026, the Washington Monument will have a projection show and an illumination of a 250-foot birthday candle beginning on New Year’s Eve.
It is part of a six-night event, from Dec. 31 through Jan. 5, that will illuminate the monument with projections of stories about how America was discovered, its independence and future.
It was set up by a national organization called Freedom 250, created by President Donald Trump.
“The illumination of the Washington Monument marks the beginning of a momentous year for our nation — 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence,” Keith Krach, CEO of Freedom 250, said in a news release. “We invite every American — and every friend of America — to join this historic celebration of the triumph of the American spirit.”
The projection event is free and open to the public at the National Mall. The Washington Monument illumination is one of the events nationwide that will celebrate the founding of America. Read More
