'Coming to Jesus in Large Numbers':
Brave Missionaries See Big Results
in Deadly Corner of Africa
|
|
N'DJAMENA, Chad – In one of the most perilous regions of the world, an American missionary is quietly building an army – not with weapons, but with prayer. Carole Ward has made it her life's mission to follow God's call and train fearless believers in Africa's Sahel region. The Sahel region of Africa isn't the kind of place you just wander into. You're called here. "It's very dry. It's very sandy. It's dusty. It's desert. It can be 100, 115 degrees year-round," Ward tells CBN News.
This vast stretch of land cuts across ten African nations, from Senegal to Eritrea. It's a land of extremes – scorching heat, shifting sand, and deadly danger. More than half of the world's terror-related deaths happen here. It's the front line in a spiritual and physical battle. "And now, here you are in the middle of one of the most dangerous swaths of land in Africa. What is wrong with you?" CBN News asks Ward. "The call of the wild. I don't know. It's in my blood," she answers back.
Ward runs toward the fire. She has been doing it for decades, starting in northern Uganda during the height of the brutal Lord's Resistance Army. Then came South Sudan – civil war, destroyed villages, broken hearts. While others fled, Carole stayed, bringing healing, hope, and the relentless love of Jesus. "You can't live here until you've already died," insists Ward. "You've died to yourself, and the devil can't kill a dead man because your life isn't your own."(CBN) Read More Here and Watch Video!

Nicolas Maduro to face arraignment Monday as Venezuelan leaders call for 'dialogue'
|
|
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro pleaded not guilty to all four charges against him on Monday. His wife, Cilia Flores, also pleaded not guilty to her three charges. Judge Alvin Hellerstein set their next court date for March 17.
Barry Pollack, the Washington-based attorney who once represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, will defend deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.
Pollack appeared with Maduro on Monday as he pleaded not guilty in a Manhattan federal courtroom days after U.S. forces arrested Maduro and his wife during a military raid in the South American nation. Pollack said he will challenge the legality of Maduro's arrest in his own country by a foreign power.
At Monday's court proceeding, Pollack said he anticipated extensive legal wrangling over what he termed Maduro's "military abduction," signaling the defense will argue Saturday's operation was unlawful, Reuters reported. He may also claim that Maduro is immune from criminal charges as the head of a foreign government.

China, Russia and Iran closed ranks at the UN Security Council on Monday, blasting the U.S. operation in Venezuela and warning it could destabilize the international order.
China accused Washington of “blatantly” violating Venezuela’s sovereignty and the UN Charter, arguing the use of force would deepen instability across Latin America and the Caribbean. Beijing called for dialogue and a political solution.
Russia echoed those claims, labeling the operation an act of armed aggression and demanding the release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Moscow accused the U.S. of acting as a self-appointed global enforcer and undermining the credibility of the UN system.
Iran went further, branding the operation “state terrorism” and a full-scale act of aggression. Tehran said Washington was replacing international law with U.S. domestic law and warned that continued Security Council inaction would encourage impunity. Iran also rejected U.S. allegations against it and reaffirmed its right to self-defense. (Fox News)

US Military Will Remain in Caribbean to Exert Leverage on Venezuela, Rubio Says
|
|
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Jan. 4 that the Pentagon will maintain its military blockade around Venezuela to apply leverage to the country’s socialist regime—which is now being run by Delcy Rodríguez, who served as vice president and oil minister under Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro following his capture by U.S. forces.
Rubio told CBS News’ “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” on Sunday that the United States is keeping an oil “quarantine” or blockade in place around Venezuela’s coasts, pointing to the export as being a key source of revenue for the regime.
“There’s a quarantine right now in which sanctioned oil shipments, there’s a boat, and that boat is under US sanctions. We go get a court order, we will seize it,” Rubio said. “That remains in place, and that’s a tremendous amount of leverage that will continue to be in place until we see changes that not just further the national interest of the United States, which is number one, but also that lead to a better future for the people of Venezuela.”

Lord we continue to pray a hedge of protection over the United States military, that no harm or evil can succeed against them. We pray for an increase of wisdom and discernment for our military, and for our governmental leaders, that they would lead with wisdom on what’s best for all countries and not pursue evil agendas but only your agenda Lord, in Jesus' name amen.

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado celebrated the US capture of dictator Nicolás Maduro Saturday, saying in her first public comment the “hour of freedom has arrived.”
“The time has come for popular sovereignty and national sovereignty to govern our country. We will restore order, free the political prisoners, build an exceptional country, and bring our children back home,” Machado said in her first public statement since the historic arrest.

Lord God, we pray over Venezuela that your will would be done in that nation, in Jesus' name. We pray that the right leader would be elected to lead the people and restore righteousness and justice in their land. We break all evil assignments and agendas by the enemy to install a leader that is not good for that country. Amen.

Schumer Says Senate Will Vote on War Authorization in Venezuela
|
|
|
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Jan. 4 said he expects the Senate to vote on whether to formally authorize the U.S. military’s actions in Venezuela that led to the capture of the country’s leader, Nicolás Maduro.
When asked about what Congress can do, Schumer told ABC News’s “This Week” that “we have the War Powers Act,” adding that Republicans cannot block the resolution from being submitted on the Senate floor.
Sens. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), and the Democratic leader are sponsoring a measure that will “come to the floor this week,” Schumer said. “And if it is voted for, if it’s voted positively in both houses, then the president can’t do another thing in Venezuela without the OK of Congress. We have to pass it.”
Democrats would need at least three additional Republican votes in order for the measure to pass.
“Maduro is a horrible, horrible person, but you don’t treat lawlessness with other lawlessness, and that’s what’s happened here,” Schumer said, adding that the U.S. government lacks the authority to conduct such an operation inside Venezuela—which he described as a “violation of the law”—without getting congressional authorization first.
Also on Jan. 4, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) supported a resolution on the use of the military in Venezuela, although he provided few details.
“We have to make sure when we return to Washington, D.C., that legislative action is taken to ensure that no further military steps occur absent explicit congressional approval,” Jeffries said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Jan. 4. (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

Holy Spirit, we ask that you just flood the Senate and the House of Representatives right now with your presence that the eyes of all of our elected officials would be flooded with Your light. We pray that they may know the hope which you have called them into in the glorious inheritance in the Saints. We pray for increased discernment that they would know Your will in this difficult situation. In Jesus' name we offer this prayer, amen and amen!

1. Netanyahu: Israel and US aligned on Iran, support Iranian people - i24 News
“We will not allow Iran to rebuild its ballistic missile industry, and we will certainly not let it restart its nuclear program"
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Knesset on Monday that he and U.S. President Donald Trump are in full agreement on Iran, describing their personal relationship and the Israel-U.S. partnership as “a recipe for the continuation of our successes in 2026.”
Speaking during the parliamentary "40 signatures" debate, Netanyahu highlighted close cooperation between Jerusalem and Washington on key regional issues, including efforts to repatriate the remains of Staff Sergeant Ran Gvili, the last Israeli hostage still held in Gaza.
Turning to Iran, Netanyahu delivered a firm warning. “We will not allow Iran to rebuild its ballistic missile industry, and we will certainly not let it restart its nuclear program,” he said. He stressed that the shared Israeli-U.S. position is based on a zero-enrichment principle, requiring Iran to export all enriched uranium and ensure its nuclear facilities remain under strict, permanent monitoring. 2. Israel begins process to disconnect UNRWA facilities in Jerusalem
- Israel National News
Minister of Energy Eli Cohen on Monday instructed the Israel Electric Corporation and Jerusalem's water corporation, "Hagihon," to begin the process of disconnecting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) from the infrastructure, while sending pre-disconnection warning letters to the organization's public buildings in the neighborhoods of Ma'alot Dafna and Kafr Aqab.
The minister's directive is an additional stage in the fight to end the activities of UNRWA, which Minister Cohen referred to as a "terror supporter."
Cohen has also instructed that additional UNRWA facilities be located and that the new law, which the Knesset approved last week, be implemented. The law, which was co-sponsored by MKs Yulia Malinovsky (Yisrael Beytenu) and Limor Son-Har-Melech (Otzma Yehudit), allows UNRWA public buildings to be disconnected from infrastructure services. The Israel Defense Forces’ Paran Brigade, responsible for securing the frontier with Egypt, intercepted a drone smuggling M-16 rifles and ammunition across the border, the military said on Monday.
“Overnight, IDF surveillance units and the Aerial Control Array [of the Israeli Air Force] identified a drone that crossed into Israeli territory from the west in an attempt to smuggle weapons,” the army stated.
“Soldiers from the Paran Brigade intercepted the UAV, which was carrying three M-16 rifles and magazines,” the statement added.

4. After warning civilians of strikes, IDF conducts attacks on Hezbollah, Hamas targets in Lebanon - Jerusalem Post
After warning of imminent attacks on Hezbollah infrastructure on Monday, the IDF began striking Hezbollah and Hamas terror targets in Lebanon, the military said.
The IDF said the strikes, which were carried out north of the Litani River, stopped attempts to rebuild terrorist infrastructure in the area.
The attack comprised four strikes, and two subterranean Hezbollah structures were among the infrastructure targeted, the army said.
The initial announcement warning of the strikes, made by IDF Arabic-language spokesperson Col. Avichay Adraee on X/Twitter, identified locations in the towns of Kfar Hatta and Ain Al-Tinah as the targets. (Read more)

5. Pro-Hamas Arson Attack Targets Home of Antisemitism Commissioner in Germany - Algemeiner
Investigators in Germany have started reviewing an arson attack on Sunday against the home of Andreas Büttner, commissioner for combating antisemitism in the state of Brandenburg, where assailants set fire to a shed at his property in Templin — a town located approximately 43 miles north of Berlin — and spray-painted an inverted red triangle, the symbol of support for the Islamist terrorist group Hamas.
“My thoughts are with Andreas Büttner and his family,” Israeli Ambassador to Germany Ron Prosor posted on X. “Knowing him as I do, after this attack he will only stand up even more resolutely against antisemitism. For the radical part of the ‘Palestine solidarity’ movement is not only antisemitic, but terrorist.”
Prosor explained the significance of the red triangle, writing, “Attacks on those who think differently and attempted murder: That is what the Hamas triangle stands for — in Gaza as in Brandenburg. And the hatred of Israel goes hand in hand with hatred of our democracy. The rule of law must smash these terrorist organizations — and indeed, before they strike again.”
The red triangle vandalism appeared “on the neighboring house’s door entrance,” according to Germany’s DW media. (Read more)

1. Trump says he tipped off oil companies on Venezuela attack - The Hill
President Trump said Sunday that he spoke to oil companies ahead of the operation in Venezuela and claimed they’re eager to revitalize the industry in the South American nation.
Reporters on Air Force One asked the president if he spoke to American oil companies to tip them off before U.S. forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Saturday.
Trump nodded and said he spoke to the companies “before and after” the operation.
“And they want to go in, and they’re going to do a great job for the people of Venezuela, and they’re going to represent us well,” Trump continued.
Trump signaled Saturday that his desire to take over the Venezuelan oil industry played a role in his decision to greenlight the operation to capture Maduro.
He said American companies would be able to tap into the country’s significant oil reserves, telling reporters, “We’re going to be taking out a tremendous amount of wealth out of the ground.” (Read more)

“Cuba looks like it’s ready to fall,” Trump said. “I don’t know if they’re going to hold out.”
The president waved off the possibility that the administration might use American forces to hasten the Cuban government’s demise, explaining that Venezuela was Cuba’s primary economic backer.
“Cuba only survives because of Venezuela,” Trump said. (Read more)

3. Sheinbaum rebuffs Trump’s Venezuela operation, threats to Mexico - The Hill
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum rebuffed last week’s U.S. military action in Venezuela and reaffirmed her country’s sovereignty, pushing back against President Trump’s veiled threats of intervention.
“We categorically reject intervention in the internal affairs of other countries. The history of Latin America is clear and compelling: intervention has never brought democracy, never generated well-being, nor lasting stability,” Sheinbaum said in a statement Monday.
“Only the people can build their own future, decide their path, exercise sovereignty over their natural resources, and freely define their form of government,” she continued.
Trump has repeatedly threatened to take military action against drug cartels in Mexico, threats that gained renewed attention after the weekend moves against Venezuela.
Sheinbaum said international law “unequivocally” establishes “respect for the sovereignty of states, their territorial integrity, and the right of peoples to self-determination.” (Read more)

4. US capture of Maduro tests limits of China's diplomatic push - Reuters
China's top diplomat accused the U.S. of acting like a "world judge" by seizing Venezuela's leader Nicolas Maduro to put him on trial in New York, with Beijing set to confront Washington at the United Nations over the move's legality.
Beijing follows a policy of non-intervention and routinely criticises military activity conducted without the UN Security Council's approval.
The U.S. military's removal of the leader of one of China's "all-weather" strategic partners from his capital in the dead of night will be a litmus test of Beijing's assertion that it can play a role in resolving global hotspot issues without following Washington down the military route.
"We have never believed that any country can act as the world's police, nor do we accept that any nation can claim to be the world's judge," Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his Pakistani counterpart during a meeting in Beijing on Sunday, referring to "sudden developments in Venezuela" without directly mentioning the United States.
"The sovereignty and security of all countries should be fully protected under international law," Wang added, in his first remarks since images of the 63-year-old Maduro blindfolded and handcuffed on Saturday stunned the world. (Read more)

5. Russia loses ally in Venezuela but hopes to gain from Trump's 'Wild West' realpolitik - Reuters
Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro's capture by the United States has deprived Vladimir Putin of an ally and could increase U.S. "oil clout", but Moscow is eying potential gains from President Donald Trump's division of the world into spheres of influence.
Special Forces seized Maduro only eight months after the Russian president agreed a strategic partnership with his "dear friend", and Trump said the U.S. was taking temporary control of Venezuela, which has the world's biggest oil reserves.
What Russia casts as Trump's "piracy" and "regime change" in the United States' "backyard" is more tolerable for Moscow, especially if Washington becomes bogged down in Venezuela.
"Russia has lost an ally in Latin America," said a senior Russian source, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
"But if this is an example of Trump's Monroe Doctrine in action, as it seems to be, then Russia also has its own sphere of influence." (Read more)

Lord God, to see what is now happening on the global level almost takes our breath away! We ask that You help us direct our intercession according to Your will, because all nations are in Your mighty hand.
As Russian now repositions itself regarding its relationship to Venezuela, we ask that it moves with Your wisdom and Your divine guidance with any move it will make. Thank You, O Lord, that You are the ruler of the nations! In Your name, amen and amen!

The Blessings of Hope
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, January 5, 2025
Vayechi (“And He Lived”), found in Genesis 47:28–50:26, closes the book of Genesis with confidence of the future for us all. Jacob’s final years unfold in Egypt, yet Scripture emphasizes that he lived there, fully aware of who he was and where his people belonged. As death approaches, Jacob makes Joseph swear to not bury him in Egypt, but in the Cave of Machpelah in Canaan. At that moment, the family owns only that burial plot, purchased generations earlier by Abraham. Still, Jacob sees it as more than land. It is a visible promise. That cave becomes an anchor across centuries, binding Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to God’s word. Even in exile, faith remains rooted in what God has spoken and what He will yet fulfill.
After blessing Joseph’s sons, Jacob turns to his own sons with words that reveal both character and destiny. His blessing over Judah carries special weight. Judah is described as a lion, victorious and unchallenged, first standing over his prey and later resting in peace. The foremost Jewish commentator, Rashi, understands this as a picture of Israel’s kings. David, the warrior king, subdues Israel’s enemies. Solomon, his son, reigns during a season of peace and stability. Together, they form a pattern of victory followed by rest. Jacob’s words stretch beyond their reigns, pointing toward a greater fulfillment. Kingship, authority, and the obedience of the nations are tied to Judah, shaping an expectation not merely of political leadership, but of a redemptive ruler whose reign brings lasting peace. Mamdani’s Inauguration Speech Rife with Radical Rhetoric, Troubling Symbolism
|
|
|
|
A common crime of American politics occurs when a politician jazzes up the base with partisan rhetoric only to transform into a muddled centrist after Election Day. At least for now, New York City’s smiling socialist mayor Zohran Mamdani is not guilty of that crime. But if he keeps on this track, he’ll be guilty of much worse.
Mamdani’s January 1 inauguration ushers in what the wet-behind-the-ears mayor calls a “new era” of Democratic Socialist leadership for the largest city in the nation — the same nation that defeated the Soviets, by the way.
He was sworn in twice, first just after midnight at a private ceremony in a defunct subway station and then again at a block party in the afternoon.
“We will govern without shame and insecurity, making no apology for what we believe,” Mamdani said during remarks at his second ceremony. “I was elected as a Democratic Socialist, and I will govern as a Democratic Socialist. I will not abandon my principles for fear of being deemed radical.”
Aside from the fiery rhetoric, the symbolism of Mamdani’s inaugural proceedings is striking.
Mamdani forsook the traditional Bible and instead was sworn in on a Quran. Muslim mayor governing non-Muslim populations is a picture that has become increasingly common in Western Europe and has finally reached the shores of the U.S.
“We will replace the fragility of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.”
Lastly, and maybe the most striking of the symbolism for the trained eye… it’s interesting that Mamdani chose to receive the mayor’s authority in a ceremony underground. From below the city, he may drag his fellow residents into a socialist hell.
Or at least into the sewers. (The Washington Stand) Read more here.

Father God, this man is so dangerous to the citizens of New York City, and to our nation, that we hardly know how to pray over his words. It does seem that his agenda is "too big" for us to tackle, but Holy One, we know it is NOT too big for you! We ask that You would cause his Communist-embracing words to serve as a wake-up call for all of us who love You and who love the foundation of our precious nation. Help us, O Lord, to be wise. In Your Name we offer this prayer, amen and amen!
"Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist." (Luke 21:14,15)

Trump's capture of Maduro sparks predictable split among world leaders
|
|
|
|
As the United Nations Security Council prepares to meet Monday for an emergency session to discuss the United States' strike on Venezuela that led to the capture of dictator Nicolás Maduro, world leaders are sharply divided over the legality and consequences of the operation and President Donald Trump's confirmation of U.S. oversight of Venezuela pending a future transition.
Responses from global leaders are pouring in.
The following pages highlight seven of those responses that reflect the divide.

Abba, You put Your son, Donald, into the office as our President, so none of this information is a news flash to You. We ask Your hand be on all of these circumstances, keeping this from becoming something the enemy is controlling. Father God, we ask You to be President Trump's constant companion, give him ears to hear Your voice and direction as he walks this out with You. We ask Holy Spirit to send out warrior angels to contend with any demonic activity started to take advantage of these unusual actions by our President. We ask for angels of peace and calm to cover our country, keeping all our people from responding out of fear before all the facts are known, pour out the supernatural gift of faith into the hearts of all who will accept it, give Your people the ability to trust You through the President and through one another. Let this be the beginning of Your church standing in faith and trust, believing that You are God, that You are on the throne and that You are sovereign over not only the US, but the entire world. We ask this in the name El Shaddai, God Almighty, the God with ultimate power over all things.
"So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: "See, I lay a stone in
Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure
foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic." (Isaiah 28:16)

US Evangelical leaders react to Trump’s capture of Maduro
|
|
|
|
Several Evangelical leaders across the country have responded to President Donald Trump’s announcement that the United States has captured dictator Nicolás Maduro during a military strike in Caracas and will run Venezuela until a new transition plan is in place. Offering public praise, leaders, including the Rev. Franklin Graham and Ambassador Mike Huckabee, linked the operation to justice, spiritual deliverance and national security.
Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were apprehended during an early-morning raid on Saturday in Caracas.
Trump said the mission was carried out without any American casualties or equipment loss. He called it one of the most successful military operations in recent history and announced that the U.S. would oversee Venezuela’s government until a “safe, proper and judicious transition” could occur.
Maduro, previously charged in the U.S. on drug and weapons offenses, was the leader of the Cartel of the Suns and is the first target in the Narcotics Rewards Program to carry a $50 million bounty, according to the U.S. State Department.
Maduro had long been accused of running a narco-terrorism operation in coordination with FARC and other armed groups, and of violently repressing dissent in Venezuela.
On July 28, 2024, an election was held in which Maduro was declared the victor, giving him a third term in office. It was believed worldwide that his authoritarian regime had committed massive fraud to steal the election victory from opposition candidate Edmundo González.
Elvis Amoroso, president of the National Electoral Council and a Maduro ally, had declared that Maduro had won with 51% compared to 44% for González, with only 80% of the votes counted.
Opposition leader María Corina Machado insisted that González, a 74-year-old retired diplomat who took her place on the presidential ballot after the Maduro regime banned her from running, had won 70% of the vote compared to 30% for Maduro.
The following pages list responses from five prominent Evangelical leaders and pastors. (The Christian Post) Read more here.

King of Kings, we are awestruck at what You have done through the Trump Administration in bringing the Maduros to justice in the United States and in beginning liberation of the citizens of Venezuela from a most evil dictator. We are grateful for the likes of Franklin Graham, Mike Huckabee and other well-known evangelicals who have publically expressed their approval of this bold move from Trump. Thank You for their spiritual perceptions that help Your people to find Your heart in these superbly orchestrated maneuvers. Lord, we give YOU all of the praise!
While we know that there is much work still to be done to aid the citizens as they work their way back to a free and prosperous nation, we can see that hope is being restored in the wonderful celebrations in Venezuela and in other countries where they have taken refuge since Maduro’s reign of terror began. We pray for great wisdom for all assisting in the rebuild—may they truly have the mind of Christ in all decisions. We especially pray that none of the liberators would in any way impose their will on the Venezuelan voters or attempt to exploit the nation and its resources in any way. May we work alongside the citizens and agencies in whatever ways are best for Venezuela. Lord, we are also aware that there are many in positions of power and authority in that nation who are still working for the Maduro network of evil. We ask that You change their hearts and minds, or quickly bring them to justice if they are unwilling to do the right things.
May You grace the newly freed nation with sweeping revivaI, in Yeshua’s powerful name, Amen & Amen!!!

Professor challenges centuries-old assumptions about medieval masterpiece's purpose
New historical research is challenging centuries of assumptions about why the Bayeux Tapestry — one of the most iconic pieces of medieval art — was created.
The tapestry vividly depicts the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings — and is widely believed to date to the 1070s.
The scenes show how the Normans invaded England from France and seized power from the Anglo-Saxons, all culminating in the death of Harold Godwinson at Hastings.
Scholars have traditionally believed that the Bayeux Tapestry was meant to be hung inside the nave of Bayeux Cathedral, which was built in 1077 — but new research suggests it was meant for monks' mealtime viewing instead.
Benjamin Pohl, a medieval history professor at the University of Bristol, published his research in the journal Historical Research on Dec. 12.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Pohl said he believes the tapestry was designed specifically for the monastic refectory of St. Augustine's Abbey in Canterbury.
Pohl's research suggests the masterpiece "only came to Bayeux in the 15th century, more by accident than by design."
"From a practical perspective, a cathedral nave does not offer a particularly suitable space for hanging an embroidery of this length and weight in such a way that its contents can be seen and understood easily," he said. (Fox News) Read More

"Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. In Your Name."
