Angel Studios' 'David' brings in over $70M after highest grossing faith-based animated film opening
|

Angel Studios’ “David” has now brought in more than $70 million at the box office after making more money on ticket sales during its opening weekend than any other faith-based animated movie in history.
“David,” an animated children’s film based on the life of King David of Israel as documented in the Bible, hit theaters on Dec. 19 and is distributed by Angel Studios, which specializes in producing faith-based movies.
According to the Internet Movie Database’s Box Office Mojo, “David” surpassed $70 million in box office sales as of Tuesday afternoon. Nearly all of its earnings, (except $400,000), come from domestic ticket sales. The film has a score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter, indicating that it is very popular with moviegoers. Immigration Agents Surge Into Minneapolis in ‘Largest Operation Ever’
|
|
The Trump administration has launched what officials described as the largest immigration enforcement operation ever Tuesday in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area, initiating the deployment of federal agents and officers in a crackdown tied to widespread fraud investigations allegedly involving mainly Somali residents.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was on the ground early Tuesday as the sweep started, adding to the number of top federal officials focused on the state as federal investigations expand this week.
The Department of Homeland Security has made more than 1,000 arrests of illegal immigrants, many with criminal convictions, in Minnesota, including 150 in Minneapolis Monday, the agency reported.
“We have the largest immigration operation ever taking place right now,” acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Todd Lyons told Newsmax on Tuesday.
Federal agents and officers were going door to door at businesses in the area suspected of being involved in illegal hiring and fraud, Lyons said.

US Discusses Ways to Acquire Greenland; Military Use on Table
|
|
President Donald Trump is seeking to acquire Greenland as a U.S. national security priority necessary to deter adversaries in the region and may consider military action, the White House said on Tuesday.
“President Trump has made it well known that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority of the United States, and it’s vital to deter our adversaries in the Arctic region,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement to The Epoch Times on Tuesday.
“The President and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilizing the U.S. Military is always an option at the Commander in Chief’s disposal.”
The foreign ministers of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden in a joint statement issued on Monday said that they are dedicated to Arctic security and that decisions in regard to Denmark and its autonomous territory of Greenland belong to the two of them.
They expressed support for NATO’s growing vigilance in the area and noted increases in Arctic security investments, with readiness to discuss further enhancements with the United States and other allies.
The statement invoked core principles of the U.N. Charter and international law, such as border inviolability. It noted Denmark’s NATO founding membership and its historic collaboration with the United States on Arctic security, citing the 1951 Defense Agreement.
“We collectively reiterate that matters concerning Denmark and Greenland are for Denmark and Greenland to decide alone,” the ministers concluded. (The Epoch Times)

Trump Warns He Might Be Impeached If Republicans Don’t Win in 2026
|
|
President Donald Trump warned on Tuesday that he could be impeached if Republicans do not win the majority in the House during the midterm elections later this year.
“You got to win the midterms,” Trump told the House GOP caucus at the Trump-Kennedy Center in Washington at an event that was part of a retreat for the Republican lawmakers. “They’ll find a reason to impeach me. I’ll get impeached.”
Republicans will not “impeach them because you know why? Because they’re meaner than we are,” the president said, referring to Democrats. “We should have impeached Joe Biden for a hundred different things.
“They are mean and smart.”
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) issued a similar warning in December at the Turning Point USA America Fest in Arizona, saying that a Republican loss would lead to impeachment.

We cast those words down to the ground, in repentance, and call them of NO EFFECT in this next election and of his own future as the President of the United States.

Iran’s leaders struggle to end protests as US action in Venezuela stokes fears
|

DUBAI — Iran’s efforts to quell a wave of anti-government protests have been complicated by Donald Trump’s threat to intervene on their side, a warning firmly underlined by the subsequent US capture of Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro, officials and insiders said on Monday.
A day before US special forces seized Maduro and his wife on January 3 and whisked them off to New York, the US president warned in a social media post that if Iran’s leadership killed protesters who have taken to the streets since December 28, the US “will come to their rescue.” At least 17 people have died so far.
Tehran’s options have been limited by Trump’s threats and a long-running economic crisis that deepened after Israel, joined by the US, launched strikes on the Islamic Republic in June in a 12-day war that pummeled several of Iran’s nuclear sites.
Some fear Iran may be ‘next victim’
“These twin pressures have narrowed Tehran’s room for maneuver, leaving leaders caught between public anger on the streets and hardening demands and threats from Washington, with few viable options and high risks on every path,” one Iranian official told Reuters.
The view was echoed by two other officials and a former Iranian official who remains close to Iran’s decision makers. All of them asked not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the situation.

1. IDF chief: New strategy focused on possibility of surprise war - JNS
Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir told local leaders Tuesday that Israel’s ability to fight future wars depends on home-front preparedness, and that the military is enhancing readiness for a potential surprise conflict.
Speaking at the “Leaders on the Home Front” conference alongside Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and Home Front Command Chief Maj. Gen. Shay Kalper, Zamir said the military is developing a new strategy focused on the possibility of a surprise war and has drawn operational lessons from the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas massacre.
Zamir said the army has revised alert levels and operational orders, addressed gaps and now launches offensive measures against emerging threats along Israel’s borders. He vowed that no terrorist or proxy groups would be allowed to “wallow” on the frontier.
He praised local authorities and the Home Front Command for their joint response during “Operation Rising Lion,” the 12-day war against Iran in June, saying their work “on the front line of the home front” gives the IDF the quiet it needs to act where necessary.

An Israeli-backed Palestinian militia said on Wednesday it had killed two Hamas operatives in southern Gaza, marking a renewed challenge to Hamas after Israel empowered its rivals in areas under Israeli military control.

A new report released on Wednesday by the office of Volker Türk, U.N. high commissioner for human rights, claims that “Israel is violating international law requiring states to prohibit and eradicate racial segregation and apartheid.”
The report, titled “Israel’s discriminatory administration of the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem,” argues that unequal treatment and abuses of Palestinians have intensified since the Hamas-led terrorist attacks in southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, and Jerusalem’s subsequent military response.

4. Another Democrat State Representative INDICTED for Fraud - WLT Report
Another Georgia state representative has just been indicted for fraud. Democrat Rep. Karen Bennett is facing federal charges for allegedly making false statements on an application for pandemic unemployment assistance. Bennett was indicted by a federal grand jury.
She is accused of lying about her job and hiding income to collect thousands of dollars in COVID-era benefits back in 2020. 5. Magnitude 6.7 earthquake strikes near Baculin, Philippines, USGS says - Reuters
A 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the Philippines' southern islands on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, and there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. USGS said the quake struck at a depth of 10 km (6 miles) around 68 km (42 miles) east of Baculin, a village in the southern town of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur province.
Philippine seismology agency Phivolcs, which measured the tremor at 6.4 magnitude and depth of 23 km, warned of damage and aftershocks. Police and disaster officials near the quake's epicentre said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the earthquake."It was not that strong, but people rushed outside," said Joey Monato, the local police chief of Hinatuan.

Far from a paperwork mix-up or a handful of bad actors slipping through cracks, this was a sustained operation involving shell nonprofits, empty daycare centers, and millions in taxpayer dollars flowing to places that did not serve children. Surveillance footage, internal warnings, and whistleblower reports repeatedly pointed to the same conclusion—ongoing fraud. Yet payments continued. When a scheme reaches this size and lasts this long, responsibility no longer stops with the perpetrators. It lands squarely on those tasked with oversight who allowed the pipeline to stay open.
The political response tells its own story. Instead of confronting the facts head-on, leading Democrats and aligned media figures shifted the narrative. Investigators, journalists, and concerned lawmakers were accused of racial or ideological motives rather than answered with evidence. The Trump administration is freezing $10 billion in funds for child care for five states because of fraud concerns, officials said on Jan. 6.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is freezing $7 billion in funds for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families plan, which provides funding for programs that help low-income families.
An additional $2.4 billion in funds from the Child Care and Development Fund, a program that funds child care assistance for about 1.4 million children from low-income families across the nation, and $869 million in social services grants are also being frozen.
“For too long, Democrat-led states and governors have been complicit in allowing massive amounts of fraud to occur under their watch,” Andrew Nixon, a spokesman for HHS, told The Epoch Times via email. “Under the Trump administration, we are ensuring that federal taxpayer dollars are being used for legitimate purposes. We will ensure that these states are following the law and protecting hard-earned taxpayer money.”

The United States will soon receive 30 million to 50 million barrels of sanctioned Venezuelan oil from the South American nation in the near future, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Jan. 6.
“I am pleased to announce that the Interim Authorities in Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 MILLION Barrels of High Quality, Sanctioned Oil, to the United States of America,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
“This Oil will be sold at its Market Price, and that money will be controlled by me, as President of the United States of America, to ensure it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States!”
He said that he had asked U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright “to execute this plan, immediately.”
With oil trading at roughly $56 per barrel, the transfer could be worth as much as $2.8 billion.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the United States uses approximately 20 million barrels of oil per day—meaning that the oil from Venezuela could be the equivalent of as many as 2 1/2 days of gasoline supply.
Trump has encouraged Venezuela’s oil industry to accept assistance from U.S. companies and investors to build up the nation’s oil industry.
Venezuela possesses, by far, the largest proven oil reserves in the world by quantity, outpacing even the proven reserves of Saudi Arabia
However, Venezuelan oil is also among the most difficult in the world to refine, as most of it is heavy and extra-heavy crude, which is difficult to pass through refining pipes and contains harmful additives that can corrode refinery equipment. (Read more)

NASA seeks to accelerate development of Habitable Worlds Observatory

PHOENIX — NASA is ramping up work on one large space telescope while also laying the groundwork for future observatories.
The agency announced Jan. 5 that it awarded three-year, fixed-price contracts to seven companies to study technologies that could be used for the Habitable Worlds Observatory, or HWO, a large space telescope currently projected to launch sometime in the 2040s. NASA did not disclose the value of the contracts.
The selected companies are Astroscale U.S., BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems, Busek, L3Harris Technologies, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Zecoat.
The companies will examine a range of technologies relevant to HWO, Scott Smith, interim project manager for the mission, said during a session at the 247th meeting of the American Astronomical Society here Jan. 6. They range from mirror coatings and stability to “microthruster” propulsion and servicing approaches.
The studies are part of broader NASA efforts to advance the design of HWO while it remains in a preliminary pre-formulation phase. That work includes evaluating different architectures for the telescope and refining key science objectives that will shape the final design.
“HWO will be the most powerful telescope that NASA has ever launched,” said Giada Arney, HWO project scientist. She said the observatory will be able to detect dimmer objects than any other space- or ground-based telescope, enabling science ranging from exoplanets to cosmology.
Few characteristics of HWO have been finalized at this stage, including the size of its primary mirror. The project is currently evaluating two concepts: one with a six-meter mirror and another with an eight-meter mirror.
Astronomers generally favor a larger aperture. “We can do compelling science with a six-meter, but there are scientific reasons for pushing toward an eight-meter,” Arney said. “Bigger apertures float everyone’s boats.” (Space News) Read More
