On Sunday, May 17, 2026, the National Mall will be the scene of a historic gathering as Americans of every background across the country prepare for the nation’s 250th birthday with Scripture, testimony, prayer, and rededication of our country as One Nation to God. From morning fellowship in front of the U.S. Capitol to an evening filled with music anchored at the main stage on 12th Street, Rededicate 250 will be rooted in giving thanks for God’s presence in our national life throughout 250 years of American history and asking for his guidance for the next 250.

Shabbat 250 and the Coming of Messiah
President Trump declares a National Shabbat in honor of America’s 250 years
On May 4, President Donald Trump issued a historic proclamation calling for this coming Sabbath, May 15–16, to be a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Now dubbed “National Shabbat” and “Shabbat 250,” the day is unprecedented, for no sitting American president has ever called on Jewish Americans to honor the Sabbath.

Trump’s proclamation references Jewish American Heritage month and names important Jewish contributions to American history. He then calls on American Jews “to observe a national Sabbath”:

In special honor of 250 glorious years of American independence and on the weekend of Rededicate 250—a national jubilee of prayer, praise, and thanksgiving—Jewish Americans are encouraged to observe a national Sabbath. From sundown on May 15 to nightfall on May 16, friends, families, and communities of all backgrounds may come together in gratitude for our great Nation. (Donald J. Trump, “Jewish American Heritage Month, 2026”)

Trump also calls on “all Americans” to join in on Shabbat 250:

I call upon Americans to celebrate the heritage and contributions of Jewish Americans and to observe this month with appropriate programs, activities, and ceremonies. I further call on all Americans to celebrate their faith and freedom throughout this year, during this month, and especially on Shabbat to celebrate our 250th year.

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is dedicated to equipping members of the Body of Christ to “pray for those in authority over us” [see I Tim. 2:1-2] in our legislative branch of government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that God’s “will be done in earth, as it is in heaven” [see Matthew 6:10]. In addition, all of our prayers are anchored in Scripture, because it is written that “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” [Isaiah 55:11]

As we intercede for each of the 435 members of the House of Representatives and the 100 members of the Senate, our heartcry is that our God would touch each heart, drawing them to Himself in salvation. Praise God for his mighty power in the hearts of men!

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Moreover, because the scriptures indicate that “the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” [James 5:16b], we are confident that fervent prayer offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land will avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us and engage in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: “For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” [Romans 13:1b]

Finally, we also wish to honor the several other ministries that now stand in the nation’s capital, covering the other two branches of our government. We stand united, as “one tribe,” for it is written that: For the LORD is our Judge, the LORD is our Lawgiver, the LORD is our King; he will save us” [Isaiah 33:22]. In addition, we pray daily “for the peace of Jerusalem” [Ps. 122:6a] and publish news from Israel on our daily reports.

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt ministry. Friends may participate either directly on this website or by subscribing for our daily prayer alerts (The Daily Brief) or our Legislative Snapshots.
