Trump on National Day of Prayer: "We Must Always be One Nation Under God"

President Donald Trump spoke during the National Day of Prayer event in the Rose Garden at the White House, where faith leaders from numerous backgrounds gathered to honor the nation’s religious heritage. “Today, as the American people turn to God in prayer, we continue a tradition older than our independence itself,” President Trump said. “Nearly 250 years ago, on June 12, 1775, the Continental Congress appointed a day of fasting and prayer so that Americans fighting for their liberty could seek the help of the Almighty. And when you look at that – June 12, 1775 – we have a very, very special day coming up.
Trump further stated during his remarks, “We’re bringing religion back to our country,” adding, “Because for America to be a great nation, we must always be one nation under God, a phrase that they would like to get rid of, the radical left. But then I don’t think we’re going to let them get rid of that, right?” Ahead of the prayer event, White House Faith Director Jenny Korn said the National Day of Prayer came to be in 1988. “What better thing to bring people together,” she said in an interview with Newsmax, “We know that when Americans come together, when leaders come together, to pray together, then we can do everything else together.”

Mike Waltz, Other National Security Council Staffers out in Latest Trump Purge Following Signal Chat Leak
|

Trump administration national security advisor Mike Waltz and other staffers are out at the National Security Council, sources confirmed to Fox News.
Fox News confirmed Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, were ousted Thursday. Sources said additional staffers removed from the office will likely be announced, and President Donald Trump is expected to speak publicly about the matter.
Waltz, who previously served as a Florida congressman and as a decorated combat Green Beret, has come under fire from Democrats and critics since March, when The Atlantic magazine's Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg published a firsthand account of getting added to a Signal group chat with top national security leaders, including Waltz, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, while they discussed strikes against Yemen terrorists.

Lord, we understand why this occurred, and ask that wisdom be granted to all members of the Trump administration. Mr. Waltz did not create the chat, his deputy Mr. Wong did, although Mr. Waltz took responsibility. We pray that any other people who might sabotage the President’s plans be rooted out and stopped.

Trump Nominates Waltz for High-Level Post After Ousting Him as National Security Advisor

President Donald Trump tapped former national security advisor Mike Waltz for his administration's ambassador to the United Nations after Waltz was ousted from the National Security Council office earlier Thursday.
"I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Waltz to be the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations," Trump posted to Truth Social on Thursday.
"From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first. I know he will do the same in his new role. In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as National Security Advisor, while continuing his strong leadership at the State Department. Together, we will continue to fight tirelessly to Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

China is "evaluating" an offer from the U.S. to hold talks on tariffs, according to a Friday statement from the Chinese Commerce Ministry. This shift in tone could leave the door open for the world’s two largest economies to deescalate the trade war that has left global markets in turmoil.
"The U.S. has recently taken the initiative on many occasions to convey information to China through relevant parties, saying it hopes to talk with China," the ministry said in a statement, according to a Reuters translation. The ministry also said that Beijing was "evaluating this."
However, while Beijing appears to be open to negotiations, the Chinese Commerce Ministry warned that it would not be forced into making a bad deal. According to the Reuters translation, the ministry said that "attempting to use talks as a pretext to engage in coercion and extortion would not work."

1. Houthi missile hits Ben-Gurion Airport, wounding six, disrupting flights - JNS
A ballistic missile fired from Yemen struck near Israel’s Ben-Gurion International Airport on Sunday morning, lightly to moderately wounding six people and disrupting takeoffs and arrivals.
The attack triggered air-raid sirens across central Israel, including in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and the Shfela/Judaean Foothills. Several attempts were made to intercept the missile, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
The U.S.-made THAAD system attempted to intercept the missile but failed, as did Israel’s Arrow system, Channel 14 military correspondent Hillel Bitton Rosen reported. Authorities are investigating whether the blast near Terminal 3 was caused by a direct hit, missile fragments or interceptor debris. Police bomb squads and security forces remain on scene. 2. Netanyahu: Israel will respond, ‘at a time of our choosing,’ against both the Houthis and Iran - Times of Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel will respond to the strike on Ben Gurion Airport this morning by the Iran-backed Houthi terror group in Yemen, as well as to Iran itself, “at a time and place of our choosing.”
“Attacks by the Houthis emanate from Iran. Israel will respond to the Houthi attack against our main airport AND, at a time and place of our choosing, to their Iranian terror masters,” Netanyahu writes on X, attaching a March 17 post by US President Donald Trump warning Iran that the US will retaliate to Houthi attacks by addressing Tehran directly.
The Foreign Ministry reiterates Netanyahu’s message, writing in a separate post: “The Houthi attacks are Iranian attacks — Iran uses them as a proxy to spread terror and undermine the regional and global order. (Read more)

3. Defense Minister on Gaza: ‘We will destroy Hamas above and below the ground’ - World Israel News
Addressing the Shayetet 13 naval commando special forces unit on Sunday, Israeli Defense Minster Eyal Zamir pledged to eliminate Hamas infrastructure “above and below the ground” in Gaza.
After being briefed on the unit’s various operations and accomplishments during the war, Zamir expressed his appreciation and encouraged them in their future efforts.
Speaking of the expanded operations in Gaza, Zamir said, “This week, we are sending out tens of thousands of orders to our reservists to expand our operation in Gaza. The goal is to put pressure on to release hostages and defeat Hamas. We will expand into new areas and destroy all infrastructure above and below ground.”
He continued, “You, soldiers of the flotilla, are a unique unit that has performed with distinction throughout the war and achieved great things with your distinctive capabilities. We will strive to strengthen the naval dimension with special operations at sea and from the sea as part of the strategic capabilities of the IDF and the State of Israel. We express appreciation to all our reservists. The combination of all forces together – regular, career, reserves, frontline troops, and the Home Front Command – is what we need to fulfill our missions.” (Read more)

4. IDF strikes in Syria amid violence against Druze community - JNS
The Israeli Air Force attacked several targets in Syria overnight Friday, including a military installation, anti-aircraft cannons and surface-to-air missile infrastructure, the military said.
“The IDF will continue to operate as necessary to defend Israeli civilians,” the statement read.
Syria’s state news agency SANA reported that Israeli airstrikes targeted sites near Damascus, in the western governorate of Hama, and in the southern region of Daraa.
The U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is affiliated with opposition sources, said the IDF carried out more than 20 strikes in what it called the “heaviest” Israeli offensive in the country in 2025. (Read more)

5. IDF Chief Clashes with International Agencies Over Hamas-Free Humanitarian Aid - Jewish Press
For the past two months, Israel has blocked the entry of food, medicine, and even fresh water into the Gaza Strip, where around 2 million Arabs now face severe food shortages. According to a Financial Times report on Saturday, many are surviving on just one small meal per day.
President Trump stated last Sunday that he urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to allow food and medicine into the ravaged Gaza Strip. “You’ve got to be good to Gaza. Those people are suffering. There’s a very big need for food and medicine, and we’re taking care of it,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.
IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir has introduced a new approach to humanitarian aid distribution in Gaza, marking a departure from the policies of his predecessor, Herzi Halevi. With the aid flow from the recent hostage deal expected to end in the coming weeks, Zamir outlined three key conditions: IDF soldiers will not directly distribute aid, starvation in Gaza will not be permitted, and Hamas will be prevented from taking control of any supplies. 1. Judge Blocks Trump from Deporting Alleged Venezuelan Gang Members from South Texas Using Alien Enemies Act- Breitbart
A federal judge on Thursday has prevented the Trump administration from deporting alleged Venezuelan gang members from South Texas using the Alien Enemies Act (AEA), an 18th-century law.
U.S. District Court Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr., whom Trump nominated in 2018, said, “Neither the Court nor the parties question that the Executive Branch can direct the detention and removal of aliens who engage in criminal activity in the United States.”
Rodriguez continued, “the President’s invocation of the AEA through the Proclamation exceeds the scope of the statute and is contrary to the plain, ordinary meaning of the statute’s terms.”
Rodriguez is the first judge to argue that the president cannot use the Alien Enemies Act to deport those the administration claims are gang members invading the United States.
In March, President Donald Trump proclaimed that the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua was invading the United States, citing the 18th-century law as his special power to deport these migrants without the typical court proceedings.

2. U.S. Added 177,000 Jobs in April, Better Than Expected, As Economy Defies Doomsayers - Breitbart
Employers in the United States added 177,000 workers to their payrolls in April, the Department of Labor said Friday, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.2 percent, defying predictions of labor market sluggishness following President Trump’s announcement of tariffs.
Economists had been expecting 130,000 jobs and an unemployment rate unchanged at 4.2 percent. The prior month’s jobs figure was revised down to 185,000 from 228,000
The strength in hiring came from the private sector, which added 167,000 jobs. Economists had expected private employers to add just 125,000 workers. This was nearly unchanged from the downwardly revised 170,000 jobs added in March.
The labor market drew in more workers, growing the supply of labor in April. The participation rate rose to 62.6 percent from 62.5 in the previous month. The number of people employed in the month rose by 436,000 to 163,944,000.
The average workweek expanded to 34.3 hours from 34.2 hours, a sign that employer demand for labor grew in the month. Average hourly earnings rose 0.3 percent. Compared with a year ago, average earnings are up 3.8 percent, significantly higher than the 2.4 percent gain in the consumer price index through March.

3. Trump closes tariff loophole on cheap online goods from China- Fox Business
President Donald Trump on Friday closed a tariff loophole that companies like Chinese e-commerce giants Shein and Temu have been using to sell cheap goods into the U.S. tariff-free — which will likely impact prices on U.S. consumers.
Trump has eliminated what’s known as the "de minimis" exemption where imports valued under $800 from China and Hong Kong were not subject to tariffs or required to undergo rigorous customs checks. The loophole has also been criticized for allowing shipments of fentanyl precursors to enter the country.
The change comes into effect one month after Trump signed an executive order to end the loophole, which has been in place since 1938. The goods now face up to 145% tax rate or are subject to a flat fee which will likely be passed on to the consumer.
Nearly half (48%) of de minimis shipments from sites like Shein and Temu go to the poorest U.S. zip codes, while only 22% reach the wealthiest, according to research by UCLA and Yale economists.
The executive order said it was a "critical step in countering the ongoing health emergency posed by the illicit flow of synthetic opioids into the U.S."

4. China Feels The Pain, Exempts $40 Billion Worth Of U.S. Imports From Tariffs- Daily Wire
China is quietly exempting numerous U.S. imports from its retaliatory tariff on American goods, a sign that the Chinese economy is taking a hit in the trade war with the Trump administration, Bloomberg reported on Friday.
A list circulating among businesses shows that 131 items, including pharmaceuticals and industrial chemicals, are not being slapped by China’s tariff as multiple companies have been able to get the products into China without paying a duty, according to Bloomberg. The unconfirmed list makes up 24% of Chinese imports from the United States, worth around $40 billion.
The report comes shortly after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that China’s economy “is slowing down substantially,” adding, “They are the most unbalanced, imbalanced economy in the history of the world.”
“We saw some very poor [gross domestic product] numbers out of China yesterday. We’re now seeing very large estimates of job growth loss from 5 to 10 million jobs,” Bessent told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo on “Mornings with Maria” on Thursday. “So the Chinese economy is slowing down substantially here. So, what we will first want to see is a de-escalation.”
Bessent added that the trade war is “not sustainable on the Chinese side.”

5. Trump To World: Stop Buying Iranian Oil — Or Else- Daily Wire
President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened to impose sanctions on any country or individual that purchases Iranian oil or petrochemical products.
“Any Country or person who buys ANY AMOUNT of OIL or PETROCHEMICALS from Iran will be subject to, immediately, Secondary Sanctions,” Trump posted to Truth Social. “They will not be allowed to do business with the United States of America in any way, shape, or form.”
Trump’s warning comes after Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth warned Wednesday that Iran would “pay the consequence” for providing “lethal support” to the Ansar Allah terrorist organization, also known as the Houthis.
It’s unclear what incident prompted Hegseth’s post. But on Monday, an encounter with the Houthis caused a $60 million U.S. F/A-18 fighter jet to slip off the hangar deck of the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and fall into the Red Sea.

6. Trump Signs Executive Order Halting Federal Funds to NPR, PBS - Breitbart
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order halting funds to PBS and NPR, claiming the taxpayer-funded organizations have exercised political bias.
The order directs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and other agencies “to cease Federal funding for NPR and PBS” while demanding they seek to halt other sources of public funding to the organizations. Per the order:
“At the very least, Americans have the right to expect that if their tax dollars fund public broadcasting at all, they fund only fair, accurate, unbiased, and nonpartisan news coverage. No media outlet has a constitutional right to taxpayer subsidies, and the Government is entitled to determine which categories of activities to subsidize. The CPB’s governing statute reflects principles of impartiality: the CPB may not “contribute to or otherwise support any political party.” 47 U.S.C. 396(f)(3); see also id. 396(e)(2).
The CPB fails to abide by these principles to the extent it subsidizes NPR and PBS. Which viewpoints NPR and PBS promote does not matter. What does matter is that neither entity presents a fair, accurate, or unbiased portrayal of current events to taxpaying citizens. I therefore instruct the CPB Board of Directors (CPB Board) and all executive departments and agencies (agencies) to cease Federal funding for NPR and PBS.”

The Cuomo Chicken Coming Home to Roost

After five years and plenty of stonewalling by the Biden Administration, former New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo may no longer dodge the long arm of justice. The once-celebrated Cuomo, lionized by the media for his COVID-19 press briefings and later shamed for his sexual misconduct, now running for mayor of New York City, is facing federal criminal prosecution. On April 21, House Oversight Chairman James Comer criminally referred Cuomo to the Department of Justice for lying to Congress during an investigation into his administration’s deadly nursing home policy. Comer said, “Let’s be clear: lying to Congress is a federal crime. Mr. Cuomo must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
This is a legal reckoning rooted in the deaths of over 16,000 New Yorkers—elderly victims of a mandate forcing nursing homes to admit COVID-positive patients. Cuomo’s aides infamously undercounted these deaths in public reports, shielding him from accountability as he basked in national praise, even earning an Emmy for his televised briefings. The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic unearthed damning evidence that Cuomo personally reviewed, edited, and helped draft a so-called “independent” health department report aimed at deflecting blame from his March 25, 2020 directive. Halley's Comet to set off meteor shower

The Eta Aquarid meteor shower is about to peak, and will be sparked by debris from Halley's Comet -- one of the most well-known celestial objects.
The second and final meteor shower of spring is about to peak, an event that is linked to one of the most well-known objects in our solar system. The meteor shower, known as the Eta Aquarids, is expected to reach its full strength on the night of May 5-6 and will be visible around the world.
Halley's Comet connection
Meteor showers create dazzling displays when Earth travels through fields of debris left behind by comets or asteroids. These particles, often no larger than a pebble or grain of sand, burn incredibly bright as they enter the planet's atmosphere to create a "shooting star."
The debris that causes the Eta Aquarids has been traced back to Halley's Comet, left behind during its past journeys around the sun.
Halley's Comet is also responsible for the Orionid meteor shower, which peaks in October.
Meteor shower viewing tips
The early May meteor shower is the best of the year for stargazers in the Southern Hemisphere, where it can spark up to 50 meteors per hour, according to the American Meteor Society. The Eta Aquarids isn't as active north of the equator, but it can still produce 10-30 meteors per hour in the sky across North America, Europe and Asia. Read More
