Inspiring Stories Of Heroism During The 9/11 Attacks
|
|
September 11, 2001: a day of tragedy, heartbreak, and mourning, but also a day of strength, patriotism, and heroism. On this infamous date, terrorists hijacked four American planes. They had three suspected targets: the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the US Capitol.
At 8:46 am, American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Just 16 minutes later, United Airlines Flight 175 collided with the South Tower. More than 200 miles away in Washington, DC, at 9:37 am, American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon.
At 9:59 am, the South Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed - just 56 minutes after being struck by the plane. At 10:03 am, in rural Somerset County, PA, United Airlines Flight 93 plummeted into a field. This was the only plane to not reach its target. Finally, at 10:28 am, the North Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed.
In total, 2,996 people perished on 9/11. Among these souls were people who fought back against the terrorists, put others' lives above their own, and courageously cared for survivors. Charlie Kirk, Turning Point USA founder, dead at 31 after Utah campus shooting
|
|
|
Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, is dead after being shot during a campus event at Utah Valley University Wednesday.
President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk's death in a post on Truth Social.
"The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us," Trump wrote. "Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"
Kirk died after he was taken to a hospital in critical condition after being shot Wednesday at a Utah event, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.
Video posted from the event appeared to show Kirk being shot as he spoke to the crowd from under a white pop-up tent. After the shot, the crowd dispersed, with onlookers shouting, "Run, run, run!"
Treanor said the shooting happened at about 12:20 p.m.
Manhunt
The suspect is not in custody, Utah Valley University said in a statement.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, UVU spokesperson Ellen Treanor said: "A suspect was in custody initially, but to the best of my knowledge, that individual has been released. Our campus police are currently investigating in conjunction with the Orem police." Fox News Digital has reached out to Orem Police Department for comment.

DOJ Announces Federal Charges Against Suspect in Fatal Stabbing of Ukrainian Woman
|
|
The Department of Justice (DOJ) charged the man accused of fatally stabbing a Ukrainian refugee on a light rail last month in Charlotte, North Carolina, amid a growing national outcry over her murder.
Last week, local officials in Charlotte released footage of the moments before Iryna Zarutska, 23, was killed. In the video, she is shown sitting on the light-rail in front of the suspect, identified as DaCarlos Brown Jr., who has a lengthy violent criminal history, before he takes out a knife and swings at her head. The video is cut short before he makes contact.
On Tuesday, the DOJ submitted a federal complaint against Brown in the U.S. District Court in Charlotte, saying he was charged with one count of committing an act causing death on a mass transportation system.
“We will seek the maximum penalty for this unforgivable act of violence—he will never again see the light of day as a free man,” U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement in announcing the charges against Brown.
FBI Director Kash Patel wrote that the attack on Zarutska “was a disgraceful act that should never happen in America,” adding that the charges Tuesday are the ”first step toward delivering justice for Iryna and her family – as well as the millions of Americans who deserve to live in our great American cities free from being targeted by violent criminals.”
Brown was already charged with first-degree murder in the slaying last month by local officials. It’s not clear whether Brown has an attorney. (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

Senate Republicans Hatch Plan to Confirm Hundreds of Trump Nominees
|
|
There are still a lot of empty offices in Washington, D.C. — and not from remote work. For months, the president has been trying to fill vacant jobs in his administration, only to watch Senate Democrats gleefully stonewall his nominees. Now, instead of getting to work on the business of the country, most of his picks are sitting at home, wondering if Trump’s term will end before they even get confirmed. According to Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), that’s about to change.
While no one would ever mistake the Senate for an efficient body, the current HR process leaves a lot to be desired. Although there are always some partisan flashpoints with each new administration, the unspoken agreement is always to move presidents’ personnel through the pipeline as quickly as possible — especially given that about 1,200 posts require Senate confirmation. In recent years (under Trump’s two terms, especially), putting these teams in place has become more of a struggle, as the opposing parties try to make a statement by gumming up the process.
This year, though, the obstruction is otherworldly. Not a single nominee at any level has moved forward by unanimous consent or voice vote, which are the two fastest tracks for confirming a “sub-Cabinet level” nominee. Of course, the irony — or, more accurately, hypocrisy — is that Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s party (D-N.Y.) is stiff-arming Trump’s picks, clogging up hours and hours of Senate business with time-consuming votes, then turning around and voting for them anyway. Most of these nominees are being confirmed by large bipartisan margins, Thune pointed out. “It’s Trump Derangement Syndrome on steroids.”
To break the logjam, the South Dakotan spent the weeks leading up to the August recess brainstorming ways to rewrite the rules so that future administrations don’t have to deal with this headache. Schumer, exposing just how low he’s willing to sink, had proposed lifting the holds on these nominees in exchange for billions of dollars of reinstated foreign aid — an offer that Republicans called “extortion.” “He basically wanted us to pay a ransom and contribute billions of dollars to their favorite programs … for nominees that we normally routinely got in the past,” Thune shook his head. “That’s not a good outcome.”
In an op-ed for Breitbart, the majority leader explained that he’d put together a group of Republican senators with different opinions on the process to hammer out a solution. What they landed on is nothing short of political genius, since it re-ups a proposal from Democrats — who’ve been equally frustrated when the shoe is on the other foot. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Angus King (D-Maine) had actually drafted a plan to speed up confirmations by bundling nominees together so they can be approved in batches of 10.

Sept. 9: Qatari PM says Doha to continue as mediator after Israeli attack, reserves right to respond
|
|
Qatar’s prime minister warns his country reserves the right to respond to Israel’s deadly attack on Hamas in Doha, calling it a “pivotal moment” for the region, but says his country will continue mediation efforts.
“Qatar… reserves the right to respond to this blatant attack,” Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani tells a press conference.
“We believe that today we have reached a pivotal moment. There must be a response from the entire region to such barbaric actions,” he adds.
Al-Thani says that despite the attack, Qatar will continue mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and Hamas.
“Nothing will deter us from continuing this mediation in the region,” Al Thani says.
Earlier, diplomatic sources said Qatar would temporarily halt efforts. (Times of Israel)

1. IDF strikes Houthi terror targets in Yemen - Israel National News
The Israel Defense Forces struck Houthi targets in the areas of Sanaa and Al Jawf in Yemen on Wednesday, in response to repeated missile and drone attacks by the Iranian-backed terror group.
Among the assets hit were “military camps in which operatives of the terrorist regime were identified, the Houthis’ Military Public Relations Headquarters, and a fuel storage facility,” according to the military.
The IDF said the Houthis’ public relations department was responsible for distributing propaganda through the media, including speeches by leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi and statements from spokesman Yahya Sari. During the conflict, the unit spearheaded the Houthis’ psychological warfare efforts.
The military camps targeted served as bases to plan and carry out attacks against the State of Israel and housed operational and intelligence centers. (Read more)

2. Israeli officials said to doubt success of strike on Hamas leaders in Doha - Times of Israel
Israeli officials appeared on Wednesday to increasingly cast doubt on the success of the previous day’s strike in Qatar targeting the leaders of the Hamas terror group’s politburo, with a series of anonymous quotes to Hebrew-language outlets.
The Kan public broadcaster said in an unsourced report that Israel had informed the United States that the chances that the strike had been successful had decreased significantly.
“Right now there’s no indication that the terrorists were killed,” an anonymous source was quoted telling Channel 12 news. “We continue to hope they were assassinated, but optimism is fading.” (Read more)

3. Israeli Foreign Ministry to hold first staff gathering beyond pre-1967 lines - JNS
The Israeli Foreign Ministry was set on Wednesday to hold its first-ever staff-wide gathering in the Judean Desert, outside of the Jewish state’s pre-1967 lines, according to a report by the Haaretzdaily on Tuesday.
The celebration will take place in Mishor Adumim, an industrial zone some 15 minutes east of Jerusalem, next to the city of Ma’ale Adumim.
According to an invite to employees, the pre-Rosh Hashanah party will feature a “Greek-style” program, including performances, dancing, meals, drumming and wine workshops, spa treatments and gifts.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel and the ministry’s director-general, Eden Bar-Tal, are scheduled to attend a holiday toast with staff, according to the report on Tuesday. (Read more)

4. Lebanon’s Army to Disarm Hezbollah Near Israeli Border Within 3 Months in First Step to Restore State Control - Algemeiner
Lebanon’s army plans to fully disarm Hezbollah near the Israeli border within three months, the first step in the Lebanese government’s plan to restore authority and curb the influence of the Iran-backed terror group within the country.
On Tuesday, Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi confirmed to AFP that the government received a five-stage plan last week from the military to enforce a policy placing all weapons under state control.
The move follows Lebanese authorities’ approval last month of a US-backed initiative to disarm Hezbollah in exchange for a halt to Israeli military operations in the country’s south.
Amid mounting international pressure to disarm the terrorist group, Lebanon’s cabinet tasked the army with developing a strategy to establish a state monopoly on arms.

Millions of artifacts and archaeological discoveries from across Israel are now just a click away, thanks to the new Israel National Archaeological Database, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) announced Tuesday.
Designed for both scholars and archaeology enthusiasts, the platform brings together an unprecedented wealth of material about the land’s ancient past. The database already includes over 3.9 million records, nearly a million artifacts, more than 1.2 million images, and more than 15,000 3D models of sites and finds — making it one of the largest archaeological online repositories in the world, according to IAA experts behind the project.
“In the 21st century, every aspect of our research depends on databases,” IAA Chief Scientist Dr. Débora Sandhaus told The Times of Israel. “The challenge is that each excavation or subfield has developed its own system. The UK’s regulations on food additives are generally stricter than the US’ because Britain takes a proactive approach to food safety, requiring additives to be proven safe before approval and banning those with potential risks.
The US takes a more reactive stance, permitting additives until they are shown to be harmful.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has long sought to overhaul the US’ food additive regulations. He announced plans to phase out eight petroleum-based food dyes from the food supply — but other ingredients have raised health concerns as well.

2. ICE Arrests Illegal Alien with 49 Prior Arrests - Breitbart
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested an illegal alien with 49 prior criminal arrests in the sanctuary state of California, along with several other illegal aliens across the United States.
Over the weekend ICE agents arrested illegal alien Miguel Barrera-Corona of Mexico, who had 49 past arrests, including convictions for assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, vehicle theft, criminal threats to terrorize, drunk driving, shoplifting, carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, trespassing, property damage, vandalism, petty theft, and carrying a concealed dagger.
“Over the weekend, ICE arrested drug traffickers, human traffickers, child predators, and sex offenders. One of the criminal illegal aliens was previously arrested 49 times,” the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. (Read more)

3. Trump sounds alarm on Russia after Poland drone clash in social media post - DML News
In mid-August, a hopeful administration team met with Russian President Vladimir Putin with the aim of achieving a ceasefire deal between Moscow and Kyiv amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Weeks later, NATO allies had to militarily respond to the region after an apparent Russian attack that went through Poland. FOX NEWS notes that Russia’s move brought Poland “the closest it has been to open conflict since World War II.”
Now, Trump has sent a message to Russia that denotes a feeling of confidence and resolve: “Here we go.”
Russia continues to blast Ukraine with drone and missile attacks. Then on Wednesday, Russia is accused of firing off at least two dozen drones into Polish airspace. 4. Parents Denied Opt-Out of LGBTQ Curriculum in Seattle - Million Voices
A recent discovery revealed that Seattle Public Schools prohibit parents from opting their children out of LGBTQ curriculum. According to the district, “There is no option to ‘opt students out’ of learning about particular identities or groups of people.” The statement left many parents shocked.
On its official website, the district outlines what parents may opt their children out of. Sexual health education, which Washington state law requires beginning in 4th grade, is included. However, what parents cannot opt out of is far more sweeping. The list includes:
- Book readings that feature LGBTQ+ characters
• Bullying prevention discussions
• Sharing pronouns
• Answering student questions on gender or sexuality
• Displaying LGBTQ+ flags or posters
• Acknowledging Pride Month or teaching LGBTQ+ history
• Defining terms such as “transgender” or “gender identity” to promote kindness

5. Florida Moves to End Every Vaccine Mandate Statewide - Million Voices
In a major blow to the pharmaceutical industry, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo announced that all vaccine mandates in the state will be eliminated—not just for COVID-19, but for every vaccine requirement on the books. Speaking at a press conference, Ladapo declared, “Who am I to tell you what your child should put in their body?” His words were met with thunderous applause from the audience.
The Florida Department of Health, in partnership with Governor Ron DeSantis, is spearheading this effort as part of the broader Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative. This campaign, directed by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., seeks to overhaul the nation’s approach to health and wellness by putting choice back into the hands of individuals and families.

6. Manhunt underway after conservative activist Charlie Kirk shot dead on Utah campus - CNN
The FBI has set up a digital tip line for information about the shooting of Charlie Kirk, the agency announced on X.
The Utah Department of Public Safety and the FBI are co-leading the criminal investigation, the state’s public safety commissioner, Beau Mason, said earlier.

Officials believe that there was only one “person involved” in the shooting death of Charlie Kirk on a Utah college campus earlier today, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said.
“At this point, there is no information that would lead us to believe that there is a second person involved,” Cox said at a press conference Wednesday.
Still, investigators are “actively looking” for people who may have more information about the shooting, Cox said. (Read more)

Stupidocrisy: Democrats Mocking God

Democratic Party leadership long has fought religion, but they have collectively and very publicly shown their true hearts in the wake of the Minnesota Catholic school shooting. Former Biden Press Secretary Jen Psaki lit the fuse by declaring, “prayer is not freaking enough” when kids were killed by an insane trans shooter. This is offensive those who believe in the power of petitioning Heaven in grief. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt fired back, while Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom further demeaned prayer saying that those children were literally praying as they got shot at. This heresy is more than tone-deaf. It shows a political party an ideology willing to mock what’s sacred. But it’s even deeper.

'Attention!': NATO Air Defences Shoot Down Russian Drones For First Time

NATO airspace was violated by a “huge number of Russian drones” overnight, the Prime Minister of Poland said, as he triggered NATO’s Article Four while the alliance’s militaries directly shot down Russian UAVs for the first time.
“Last night the Polish airspace was violated by a huge number of Russian drones”, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in an address to the nation’s Parliament on Wednesday morning, telling the assembly: “This is not our war. This is not just a war for Ukrainians. This is a confrontation that Russia has declared on the entire world”.
Tusk said three or four of the 19 drones which entered NATO airspace “posed a threat” and were shot down. It is stated that the others came down by other causes, including running out of fuel, and the Polish military is now searching for remains, and has asked the public to remain vigilant and to report and find wreckage immediately.
In some cases, the drones crossed into Polish airspace from Ukrainian airspace, with the Ukrainian Air Force stating that it had detected eight drones overflying its territory and heading towards Poland. Others flew directly into Poland from Russia’s lockstep ally Belarus, which lies to its north-east and occupies some historic Polish territory lost during the 20th century.
There were no injuries or fatalities in Poland, but some property damage was recorded, including a home which local press says had its roof blown off.
Four airports in Poland’s east, Modlin and Chopin in Warsaw, as well as Rzeszow and Lublin, were closed overnight. Prime Minister Tusk told his parliament that this was not because a threat had been identified to the airports themselves, but because the military needed clear skies for an intensive all-night operation. Airports reopened on Wednesday after the military operation concluded, but with severe delays.
In comments this morning, Tusk called the incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace an “unprecedented violation” and stated “most likely, we are witnesses to a large-scale provocation”. He said: “This is the first time Russian drones have been shot down over the territory of a NATO country”.
Tusk told Parliament that he invoked NATO’s Article Four after talks with the Polish President. This is not the better-known Article Five, which activates obligatory collective defence from all members, but rather one that triggers a consultation process. Per NATO itself: “Any member country can formally invoke Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty. As soon as it is invoked, the issue is discussed and can potentially lead to some form of joint decision or action on behalf of the Alliance. Whatever the scenario, fellow members sitting around the Council table are encouraged to react to a situation brought to their attention by a member country.”
Regarding the overnight operation, Tusk stated that ground defence systems were activated and several aircraft types were scrambled. From the Polish Air Force, modern Western equipment, including the F-35, F-16, and Black Hawk helicopters, was made airborne. Poland also deployed its older Soviet-era MI-24 and MI-17 helicopters. NATO assets from other member states, including Dutch fighter jets and Italian surveillance aircraft, as well as early warning and refuelling aircraft, were also deployed.

What a tragedy. It has been announced that Charlie Kirk has died after being shot during an event at Utah Valley University today. This young man loved his country and invested his time and energy in trying to make it the best it could be. He stood boldly for conservative values and defended free speech for all of us. Most importantly, Charlie loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Pray for his wife Erika, their two young children, and all of their family. It’s in these moments of darkness that we need to stand on the Scripture that Erika shared on social media, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).

A New Hurricane Rating System Could Communicate Impacts Better, Helping More People Prepare Sooner, Study Says

Do we need a better way to rate hurricanes, one that emphasizes the combination of wind speed, storm surge and rainfall, rather than wind alone?
We seem to think so, and so do many other meteorologists, including Jennifer Collins, a professor and hurricane researcher at USF.
“We know that wind only accounts for less than 10% of fatalities in general, but yet our current category system is based on wind alone,” Collins told weather.com. “Storm surge accounts for closer to 50% and rainfall accounts for closer to 30% so why not have a hurricane scale which takes into account all these hazards?”
Using a scale that only takes into account one hazard associated with tropical systems is a disservice to the general public.
Terms To Know:
- Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale: The current scale used by the National Hurricane Center to categorize hurricanes. This scale is only based on the hurricane’s maximum sustained wind speed and does not take into account storm surge, flooding and tornadoes.
- Tropical Cyclone Severity Scale: A proposed scale that incorporates not only wind, but also storm surge and rainfall.
Dr. Collins has studied hurricane evacuation over the last decade and concluded that people are relying too heavily on the category of a hurricane when making stay or go decisions.
“Many people say that they will only evacuate for a major hurricane, which is Cat 3 or higher on the current scale,” says Collins.
The reality is that large tropical storms and Category 1-2 hurricanes can produce as much damage and death potential as their stronger counterparts. Read More
